OUTREACH PROGRAM
Note how March arrives. If it comes in like a lion it will
leave as a lamb; if it comes in like a lamb it will leave as a
lion. I can’t quite figure out if that is a win-win or a loselose. Either way, it beats a blizzard. It seems that I keep
badgering you for more food. The reason I do this is that
you respond so beautifully we are rarely out of any product
and have always been able to distribute healthy foods to
all who come seeking help. Sometimes, we can even
throw treats in the bags for them which they truly appreciate. Right now, we could use peanut butter, cereal,
mashed potatoes, canned fruit, and anything else edible
that you wish to give.
We are back to our Healthy Sundays. On March 15th,
a/k/a the Ides of March, we will be hosting the nurses from
Catholic Health Services to give a free health screening to
anyone interested. This will include a check of your blood
pressure, height, weight and Body Mass Index. The hours
that they will be with us is in the school building are from
10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and there will be translators for
both Spanish and Polish present. As per usual, there is
no charge or insurance involved.
Speak Spanish? And English? The Outreach
is looking for a bi-lingual parishioner willing to
hold ESL classes on Tuesday and/or Thursday
mornings from 10:30 to 11:45. We have parishioners interested in learning English but without
the available transportation to travel beyond
walking distance. Please call the Church Office

call the Outreach on Tuesday or Thursday @
842-5264).

separation is one of life’s most traumatic experiences;
often resulting in feelings of loneliness and grief.
When those feeling remain, it can be overwhelming
and hard to move forward. The Beginning Experience
weekend is time to focus on you...to feel understood
by peers and experience a sense of peace and a
renewed hope for the future.

Z niezależnej inicjatywy grupy Polaków z Long Island na terenie naszej parafii stanie pomnik
papieża św. Jana Pawła II. Zebrano już ponad 15
tys. dolarów. Szacowane całkowite koszty rzeźby,
transportu i instalacji to około 30 tys. dolarów.
Osoby, które chciałyby włączyć się w to dzieło,
mogą składać ofiary do 15 marca 2015 r. na
parafię z dopiskiem „Pomnik Jana Pawła II” lub
„Statue of John Paul II”. Czeki należy wypisywać
na: “Our Lady of the Assumption Church” lub “OLA
Church”.
Uroczystość błogosławieństwa i otwarcia pomnika
jest wstępnie zaplanowana na 24 maja tego roku.

Second Sunday of Lent
There is a line in today’s Liturgy which is
repeated three times.
“This is my beloved Son, listen to him.”
Besides being included in the Gospel, it is
the verse of the Gospel Acclamation. It is also the
Communion Antiphon, (which doesn’t get said
when we sing a Communion song). It seems to be
the message that the Church is trying to get
through to us this week!
Today’s first reading is the familiar story of
Isaac, Abraham’s “beloved son”. Abraham, like
God, was willing to sacrifice his son.
In the second reading, St. Paul reminds us
that “God did not spare his own Son, but handed
him over for us all”.
As we marvel at God’s love for us in this
generous gift of his Son, let us not forget the
second half of the line: “listen to him”. As part of
our Lenten observance have we found ways to
more closely listen to and follow the Word of God?
And as in the Gospel, Peter, James and John
witnessed Jesus in his glory; let us sing at
Communion time
“Behold the Lamb of God . . . all who dwell
in God shall come to know his glory”.
