They all ate until they had enough.” Our individual gifts raised to God and blessed by God will be multiplied in ways that we cannot foresee or imagine. THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST (CORPUS CHRISTI) June 2, 2013 As often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes. - Corinthians 11:26 APPRECIATING THE EUCHARIST For centuries today’s feast was called Corpus Christi (the Body of Christ) and was observed on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday. In many countries it has now been moved to Sunday, so that more people may participate in its celebration. In its present form, the liturgy of this day focuses our attention on the meaning of the Eucharist that we celebrate so often. Today’s reading from Genesis tells how “Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine” and prayed over Abram. Though it took place nearly two thousand years before Jesus, this event has long been used by the Church as an ancient foreshadowing of the Eucharist. The reading from Paul’s letter to the Corinthians is the same one we hear proclaimed on Holy Thursday, retelling the story of the first blessing and sharing of bread and wine at the Last Supper. Luke’s tale of the miraculous feeding of the crowd in today’s Gospel is also clearly intended to evoke the Eucharist. Thus today’s readings give us three opportunities to deepen our appreciation of the Body and Blood of Christ. The second collection this weekend is for our Diocesan Obligations. Next week’s second collection is designated for Higher Fuel and Energy Costs. FIRST COMMUNION CLASS Today, Sunday, June 2nd at the 9:30am liturgy, the following will receive the Eucharist for the first time: Brandon Goguen, Jared Gordon, Olivia Gordon and Jacob Wheeler. Congratulations to these young children as they continue to grow in Christ’s love through receiving Him frequently in the Holy Eucharist. CORPUS CHRISTI—BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST We will celebrate the Corpus Christi Solemnity Mass at 11:00am on Sunday, June 2nd at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. After Mass we will process toward St. Joseph Basilica stopping at four altars. Although this route is not long, for those who have difficulty walking we encourage you to join the procession at one of the four altars. As the Blessed Sacrament travels through the streets in our ordinary life, we ask people to decorate their homes, put candles in the windows and pay respect to the Eucharist. Page 3 Divine Mercy Chaplet -will be recited during the Corpus Christi procession on Sunday, June 2nd therefore, there will be no service at 3:00pm in our Basilica. FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH First Friday of the month will be observed on June 7th. Parishioners and member of the Sacred Heart Society are invited to the 7:00am Mass designated for all living members. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will begin after Mass. All members of the Sacred Heart Society are invited to participate and recite the usual prayers with the Litany to Sacred Heart of Jesus. Scheduled adorers are asked to participate during the day and adoration will conclude at 3:00pm with the praying of the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy and benediction. GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY On Wednesday, June 5th we will have the long awaited ground breaking ceremony for the St. Joseph School Gymnasium at 1:15pm. After the construction of the present school in 1925, this will be another grand event in the development of our school. On such a historical occasion there will be a panoramic photograph taken with all the school children and parishioners which will serve as testimony of the dedication, resilience and generosity of our generation to Catholic education. This photo will be used and displayed everywhere over the years with a sense of pride by those who had the courage and audacity to be present in the making of history. Our parents and grandparents built this impressive educational structure through their efforts and widow’s mite. Some 88 years later, we their sons and daughters, beneficiaries of their high ideals and trustees of their dreams are making another major step by building a new gym for St. Joseph School children. Through this action, we are fulfilling our parents’ wish and providing for the children of this generation another necessary component in their educational career. I want to believe that every parishioner guided by their religious and cultural heritage would not want to miss this historical moment. WEBSTER-DUDLEY VETERANS COUNCIL Last Sunday we welcomed the Webster-Dudley Veterans and Auxiliary to Mass at 9:30am. After communion, Sr. Jeanne’s Fourth Grade presented a short program to honor our guests. We appreciate our parishioners spirit of gratitude and solidarity offered to our veterans by participating in the Memorial Day services at our cemetery. 11:00. KORONKA DO MIŁOSIERDZIA BOŻEGO Jak zwykle w pierwszą niedzielę miesiąca zapraszamy do wspólnego odmawiania Koronki do Miłosierdzia Bożego. Tym razem jednak Koronkę będziemy odmawiali w trakcie procesji Bożego Ciała. Dlatego też nie będzie nabożeństwa w kościele o godz. 15:00. 7:30. Wszystkich członków Sacred Heart Society zapraszamy na Mszę św. o godz. 7:00, która będzie odprawiana w intencji żyjących członków Stowarzyszenia. Adoracja potrwa do godziny 15:00 i zostanie zakończona wspólna Koronką do Bożego Miłosierdzia. Nasi ojcowie i dziadkowie, poprzez wiele wysiłków i ofiar stworzyli imponująca budowlę obecnej szkoły. Betty Sabaj i Karoline Wierzbin NOWENNA DO ŚW. JÓZEFA Na następną Nowennę do św. Józefa zapraszamy w środę 5 czerwca. Do niesienia figury św. Józefa zapraszamy Szafarzy Najświętszego Sakramentu (Eucharistic Ministers). Do udziału zapraszamy też wszystkich parafian.
