NOVENA TO DIVINE MERCY
Today is the first Sunday of the month which has been set
aside for special devotions to the Divine Mercy. We invite all
parishioners to join us this afternoon at 3:00p.m. to sing the
chaplet to the Divine Mercy, spend some time in meditation and
conclude the service with benediction.
Stewardship Note: “Whenever you give a lunch or dinner, do
not invite your friends or brothers or relatives or wealthy
neighbors. No, when you have a reception, invite beggars and
the crippled, the lame and the blind. You should be pleased
that they cannot pay you, for you will be repaid in the resurrection of the just.” Our gifts were not given to be bargaining
chips in which we expect repayment (e.g. tax breaks, return
invitations, or recognition). Preoccupation with repayment is
not stewardship, but a search for reward.
TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
September 1, 2013
You have approached Mount Zion and the city of the living
God.
-Hebrews 12:22a
Perpetual Light of the Blessed Sacrament
Week of September 1—In Memory of Frank Dawicki

HUMILITY
Today’s reading from Sirach celebrates
what will become the theme of today’s
Gospel: humility. Pride causes us to demand from others an exalted estimate of
our status, but humility allows us to see
things more clearly. It allows us a broader perspective. Humility promises us the favor of God and the love of those who
know us.
The second reading is a study in contrasts: the giving of the
Law of Mount Sinai and the giving of salvation on Mount Zion.
The Law’s appearance is greeted with solemnity, mystery, even
fear. But Christians are not to be afraid. Coming to God’s
mountain with Jesus, “the mediator of a new covenant,” is a
happy, exuberant experience.
The parable in today’s Gospel concerns the danger of pride
and the necessity of humility. The banquet setting, often used
by Jesus, is a symbol of heaven’s abundance and of the fulfillment of God’s promise. The parable is not simply good advice
on how to avoid embarrassment; it is about salvation.
The second collection this weekend
is for Diocesan Obligations.
The second collection next weekend is designated
for our Higher Energy and Fuel Costs.
MONDAY IS LABOR DAY
Labor Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the
first Monday in September. The first Labor Day was celebrated
on Sept. 5, 1882. Traditionally this day signifies the end of
summer when Americans celebrate with picnics, barbecues and
other public events. Labor Day gives us the opportunity to be
grateful for our jobs, especially in these difficult economic
times. In our work we find peace, fulfillment and holiness if it
is done with the love for God and our families. No matter what
our task in life is, when we do it with the spirit of joy and honesty we bring dignity to our labor.
The rectory office will be closed on Sept. 2. We wish all a
pleasant and safe Labor Day!

SAINT JOSEPH SCHOOL
Wednesday, August 28th was the opening day of the academic year 2013-2014. Students with smiling and tanned faces
arrived at school and were enthusiastically greeted by the Principal , Mr. Cushing and faculty. Obviously, they were anxious
to reconnect with their friends and share their summer experiences.
The renovated classrooms and corridors are sparkling, the
various technological labs are fully equipped to lead the students into the world of discovery, assist them in their thirst for
knowledge and guide them to experience God in their lives and
form their character. Our cafeteria manager, Pam prepared a
special lunch for our returning students.
On Friday, Aug. 30th all students participated in the Eucharistic Celebration asking God’s help and protection on the long
journey of a new academic year.
We are pleased to welcome our Faculty and Staff for this
coming year. Please refer to the insert enclosed with an updated list of faculty and grades/subjects.
On Thursday Sept. 5 at 11:30 am the children and faculty
will be treated to a cook-out compliments of Msgr. Czarnecki
as a joyful gesture for the safe return from vacation.
Family Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, September
8th at 9:30am followed by the family picnic at Memorial
Beach.
HOME SCHOOL ASSOCIATION EVENT
This weekend The Saint Joseph School HSA is sponsoring
a Concession Booth at the Woodstock Fair. We are located
at the horse show, just down the road from the North Gate. If
you would still like to volunteer or just want some great food,
please come down and see us. Thank you for your support!
NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO SAINT JOSEPH
Across the Catholic world devotion to Saint Joseph is very
popular in the churches, convents monasteries as well as in private practice of the faithful. Since our Basilica and school are
dedicated to him, it offers us the opportunity to seek his assistance in our pastoral ministries.
On Wednesday, Sept. 4th at 7:00pm we ask our Eucharistic
Ministers to join parishioners by carrying the St. Joseph statue
from the Chapel of our Lady of Czestochowa to the Sanctuary.
St. Joseph is the patron of families, of fathers, of a happy
death, of workers and of family providers. Each one of us experience various needs which we can present to God through
the intercession of Saint Joseph.
We are grateful for the graces requested and offerings you
submit in the petition box located in the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel. As you probably noticed the 7:00pm mass on
Wednesday is offered for all the intentions you expressed on
the written form.
SEPTEMBER BIRTHDAYS
Happy Birthday wishes go out to our special parishioners
who will celebrate their 90+birthday in September: Anna Fijal,
Helen Lipski, Josephine Labok, Regina Moninski and Barbara
White. May the sun shine brightly upon these ladies and may
your day be filled with life’s special joys.
FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH– will be observed on
September 6th. The Mass at 7:00am will be offered for the
deceased members of the Sacred Heart Society. Parishioners
and members of the Society are invited to attend and recite the
usual prayers with the Litany to Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Scheduled adorers are asked to participate at their appointed
time during the day and adoration will conclude at 3:00pm with
the praying of the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy and Benediction. Mass in the Polish language will be celebrated at 7:00pm.
PARISH COUNCIL
Newly elected and appointed members of our Parish Council
will be installed on Sunday, Sept. 8th at 8:15am Mass. Newly
elected members are: John Hester, Ursula Kokosinski and
Elizabeth Sabaj. Appointed members are: Jane Gaudreau, Ewa
Piwowarczyk, Theresa Levasseur and Ken Yash.
The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10th at
6:30pm in the school conference room.
HOLY ROSARY 125TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR
During this special 125th Anniversary Year, the Holy Rosary
Sodality will be hosting a variety of events to promote devotion
to the Rosary. *Brief explanations on the benefit of the Rosary.
*Identify the important events in the life of the Church connected with the Rosary. *The teachings of Pope’s on the Rosary, especially John Paul II. *Reflect on many apparitions of
the Blessed Mother in the crucial time of the Church associated
with the Rosary. *Honor the Blessed Mother on Oct., 7th the
Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary with a special program
On Sunday, October 6th the 8:15am Mass will be offered for
the deceased members, followed by the annual business meeting/pastries/coffee in the school cafeteria.
In conjunction with Our Lady of Fatima, the Living Rosary
will be held on Sunday, October 13th at the Basilica followed
by a light supper in the school cafeteria. .
We will sponsor a Novena before the 125th Anniversary
Celebration. All parishioners are encouraged to express their
opinions and suggestions.
There will be a concelebrated Mass on Saturday, October
26th at 4:00pm followed by dinner and dancing at Point Breeze.
DEVOTIONAL LIFE (cont’d)
Reflecting on our private devotional life, one question on our
minds could be how do I begin? . . .*Schedule a devotional time
means to have a regular time to read the Bible, say the rosary or
a Novena which becomes a part of your daily routine. *Start at
a small and manageable pace—your devotional life depends on
your daily activities and duties. *E.g., you may not be able to
read a complete chapter of scripture or meditate for 10 minutes.
*Select your more optimal time of day—it could be early in the
morning or later in the evening, it depends what is best for you.
*Choose a quiet location, free from distractions to be able to
concentrate. *Don’t give up, if you should miss a day, just pick
up from where you left off, just like if you miss a meal, you
don’t give up eating. (to be continued)

MASS BOOK FOR THE YEAR 2014
On Tuesday, Sept., 10th you will be able to reserve Masses for the
Year 2014. Please remember that the best gift offered for family
members on the occasion of anniversaries, birthdays, name days and
significant events is to offer the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Likewise, the
best prayer for the repose of the soul of a loved one is Mass. It has
been a tradition that when a family member or friend departs to
eternity people come to the rectory to request a Mass and a Mass card
is sent to the family. Dates are available on a first come-first served
basis. As the weekend Masses are most popular, we ask that you
designate no more than three Masses per year in the spirit of charity
for other parishioners.
Please stop by the rectory during office hours 9:00am to noon and
1:00pm to 4:00pm on Mondays thru Friday-closed on Thursday. As
usual, we ask you to refrain from requesting Masses by phone.
Exception will be made for those who are homebound. To celebrate
the Mass in your particular intention, which is dear to your heart, an
accepted offering is a sign of a contractual agreement with the priest
who is obligated by Canon Law to say that Mass.
ALSO FOR YOUR INFORMATION-we have 6:30 and 7:00am
masses available during the week in September, October, November
and December of 2013. If you would like to designate a mass for a
loved one, please call the rectory.

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
DWUDZIESTA DRUGA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA
1 września 2013
"Wy natomiast przystąpiliście do góry Syjon, do miasta Boga żyjącego." (Hbr 12, 22a
POKORA
Na pierwszy rzut oka wydaje się, że
w dzisiejszej Ewangelii Chrystus daje nam
zawsze robić krok do tyłu z uniżonym ukłonem i pozwalać
sobie skakać po głowie. Oczywiście, to tylko karykatura
pokory, tak jak karykaturą pychy jest przekonanie, że polega
ona na zadzieraniu nosa.
W istocie pokora i pycha to postawa i zajęcie stanowiska
Boga.
Dzisiejsza druga kolekta jest przeznaczona na Zobowiązania
Diecezjalne.
Druga kolekta w następną niedzielę będzie przeznaczona na
pokrycie kosztów utrzymania i energii.
