Stewardship &ote: “Watch carefully then how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise . . . “ A wise person recognizes that all we have comes from God. A wise person thanks God every day for all His many blessings. A wise person realizes that God has blessed us for a reason and He wants us to be partners with Him in His work here on earth. 20TH SU&DAY I& ORDI&ARY TIME August 16, 2015 Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. - John 6:53 AT THE TABLE In today’s first reading, Wisdom is imagined as a woman rich in poise and grace. She moves smoothly and confidently about her temple-like home. She doesn't flutter about, nervous with worry. Wisdom sends her maidens to invite all to her open house. The guests do not possess any particular genius or insight. They need only be a people of good will and common sense. They are summoned to leave behind foolishness and to find for themselves a place at Wisdom’s table. There they may and can eat and drink deeply. Today’s Gospel draws us back to the table of the Eucharist. Jesus addresses those who seek to understand his words and, sadly, those who seek to avoid them. As people born of God, we are called and equipped to seek God’s will and act on it. You may place your packet envelope for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe in the first collection with your weekly Sunday envelope. The second collection this week is the additional Parish Obligation to the Diocese collection. DOZY2KI –will be celebrated on Sat., Aug. 15th at the 4:00pm Mass with the blessing of the Harvest Wreath in thanksgiving to God for our bountiful crops, followed by a cookout on parish grounds. This festivity is observed in conjunction with the Assumption of Mary. Please join us. OUR 2015 MISSIO& COOPERATIVE APPEAL We have invited a missionary from the Diocese of KUMBAKONAM, India to speak to us about their missionary activities and challenges. Accordingly, Rev. Eugene Karunakaran will be speaking to us during all the Masses on the weekend of Aug. 22/23. This diocese has an area of 7823 sq km. and is situated in Tamil Nadu, South India with a Catholic population of 213,000 which is just 6 % of the total population. It is served by 182 diocesan and 45 religious priests, 501 nuns and 17 trained lay catechists. The Kumbakonam Diocese celebrated the centenary of its inception in 1999 by setting certain concrete and meaningful goals for a New Evangelization in the III millennium such as: Construction of 20 new parishes with churches, rectories, convents and schools, educate 2000 poor and orphan children from remote villages and recruit young men in the seminary. Therefore, your fervent prayers and generous help are earnestly requested for building the KINGDOM OF GOD. Page 3 THE WORLD OF VALUES In one of our schools, I saw a beautiful sentence written in large letters “If you’re sure of your values, it’s easy to make a decision”. There are some universal transcendent values commonly accepted that guide life from the beginning of humanity. These values include, faith in God, truth, goodness, beauty, human dignity, freedom, love of neighbor, justice, solidarity, tolerance and altruism. Without these values, life cannot make any sense. In our society, we have serious problems when people, especially the young generation, under the influence of the culture of the time or his/her personal bias, reject these absolute values and substitute them with a self-made ideology where the person is prone to accept a cult of idols, superstitious practices, pursuit of material objects, drugs, etc. The general commandment “for this generation is whatever feels good, do it”. This explains why younger people, who developed their own outlook on life, do not worship God in church, have no sense of sacrifice nor respect for anyone. How can we respond to this mentality? First of all, by strengthening family values and sharing the virtues learned from their parents. Catholic schools with the faith-based curriculum supplement the family ethos and makes life successful, happy and fulfilling. St. Joseph School instills these above values into the minds in Pre-K children with care dedication and love. The Pre-K is not an extension of day care, but a school of life where children learn what is most important. In the Gospel of Matthew 18:1-5, Jesus said, “Whoever receives one child as this in my name receives me”. The question arises are we serious to accept Jesus’ teachings and provide children with an education they deserve. &OVE&A A&D DEVOTIO& TO ST. JOSEPH On Wednesday, August 19th at 7:00pm we invite parishioners and friends who seek Divine assistance in their personal and family life, to join us for the Novena and Devotion to our Patron. Prayer request forms for your personal intentions are available in the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel. Please write your requests legibly to be read out loud or silently by the celebrant.
