PROPOSAL NAME: SMEbeacon: Small and Medium Sized Enterprises' Business Excellence and Collaboration Network
SUBJECT: Creating innovative SMEs, building digital business ecosystems for SMEs, and encouraging FP
participation of SMEs are major strategic objectives under EU innovation and industry policies. "ICT for Networked
Business" and "Collaborative Working Environments" are two of the strategic objectives in FP6 IST thematic area
addressing major societal and economical challenges. Within this framework, towards the end of FP6 and beginning
of FP7 arising key questions are: "What has been achieved? To what extent? and What should be done?" Answers to
these questions become more important for the SMEs in Associated Candidate Countries (ACC), since the need for
benchmarking their status regarding the experience and knowledge gathered in member states during previous FP
periods and, structuring and declaring their requirements in terms of policies, roadmaps and infrastructures are vital
issues for their successful participation to future FPs. Therefore main objectives of this project are:
1) To promote and facilitate the dissemination, transfer, exploitation, assessment and broad take-up of past and
present programme results (over and above the standard diffusion and exploitation activities of individual projects)
and to contribute to strategic objectives 2.5.8 ICT for Networked Business and 2.5.9. Collaborative working
environments regarding the European research area: "prepare and put into service, an interactive visual map of
knowledge including ICT infrastructure, established with the EU projects that aimed to assess and develop
innovation and collaboration capabilities and to support Framework Programme participation of SMEs, with
inclusion of Associated Candidate Countries (ACC)"
2) To address the new legal challenges raised by the fostered networked and collaborative paradigms and need for
advanced tools for the measurement and assessment of the potential benefits of collaborative networks: "with the
additional help of above mentioned maps, collect assessment, ICT infrastructure functional requirements and
priorities data from selected SMEs in ACC, within a model structured by using the results of previous FP projects,"
3) To prepare future community RTD activities: "analyse the collected data and formulate proposals on system
architectures and functions, needs for advanced tools, as well as technology roadmaps and infrastructure
implementation policies, by using expert groups, and prepare feedback reports to the commission, and national
authorities and participated SMEs of the ACC, to be used in the 7th and future framework programmes".

PROPOSAL NAME: Intelligent searching - IntSearch
SUBJECT: Nowadays, most of Internet users take advantage of this amenity for information searching. Without
significant experience and some technical knowledge about the searching engine algorithms (which vary from
engine to engine), achievement of useful and desirable information becomes time consuming and frustrating.
Usually, users type a small number of words or phrases into the input window of the search engine. The query is
then used directly for searching in an index of web pages. This approach assumes that the query is already in its
optimal form, what in most cases is not true. Therefore it's mostly wanted to introduce solutions for improving the
query (re-interpreting it) before it is executed, which will depend on external knowledge sources, clarification
notify, shareable search context, correlation with 3rd party searching engines, and will be synchronized with
commonly used natural languages.
KEYWORDS: Natural language processing, RDF metadata specification model, expert systems, theory of
compilation, process optimization, distributed systems, searching algorithms
