may not be disjointed but healed.
DISCIPLINE
It is no accident that the words
“disciple” and “discipline” are nearly
identical. Their relationship in Christian faith and life, however, has fallen
somewhat out of favor in the past generation, as certain prescribed Church
rules and regulations have been reduced and relaxed. These rules were often referred to as
“disciplines.” We are mistaken, however, to think that it no
longer takes discipline to follow Christ. The Letter to the Hebrews assures us of that today. Our discipline is more like that
of an athlete pursuing a victory or a personal best, or a musician striving for a concert career or to master a new piece of
music. This discipline comes from desire, not from regulations.
It was the desire to do the will of God that led Jesus on the path
to his cross. It is that same desire he encourages in us today: to
strive to enter through the narrow gate, to find ourselves in the
kingdom with a surprising assortment of people who are there
not because of mere observation of rules, but out of a genuine
desire to do the will of God that led Jesus on the path to his

This week’s second collection is for the World Mission
Sunday-Society of Propagation of Faith-for the work
of the Passionist Missionaries in Papua New Guinea.
Next weekend’s second collection is designated to support
the Church in Central and Eastern Europe.
We welcome - Fr. Ron Davoren, CP, a Passionist priest
from Papua New Guinea to preach the Annual Mission Appeal.
During his 45 years of ministry he has been a parish priest, a
hospital chaplain, performed ecumenical work in prisons and
was Director of Postulants within the Passionist Congregration.
He has spent the past twelve months at St. Brigid’s in Marrickville, Sydney involved in supply work. Please be generous to
support his work in PNG.

JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY
This Jubilee Year of Mercy and Pope Francis’ ministry
have renewed our understanding that the Church’s heart is open
wide to all, and the heart of the gospel is God’s mercy. Flooded
with God’s mercy, our hearts should overflow as channels
bringing to wounded and weary hearts Jesus’ healing mercy.
For Jesus warns, our own salvation is not guaranteed by the
Liturgy of the Word (“you taught in our streets”) nor by the
Eucharist (“we ate and drank in your company”). People far
from that banquet, “from the east and the west and from the
north and the south . . . will recline at table in the kingdom of
God”. Rather, showing mercy is key to obtaining mercy ourselves. So we should never dare ask what “someone” asked
Jesus, “Lord, will only a few people be saved?”. The crucial
question is “Will I be saved?” And Jesus’ answer is another
question: “Have you shown mercy to everyone, freely, gladly,
no limits, no conditions, no exceptions?”
NATIONAL DAY OF POLONIA
Every year in conjunction with the Solemnity of Our Lady of
Czestochowa, Polonia of the United States makes a pilgrimage
to the Shrine in Doylestown, PA This year the celebration will
take place on Sunday, August 28th with a Mass at 12:30pm.
Bishop Witold Mroziewski, Aux. Bishop of Brooklyn will be
the main celebrant and homilist. The “Pride of Polonia Award”
for 2016 will be presented to Raymond T. Glembocki of
McLean, VA.
PARTNERS IN CHARITY APPEAL
Our Holy Father, Pope Francis reminds us that “The time
has come for the Church to take up the joyful call to mercy
once more. It is time to return to the basics and to bear the
weaknesses and struggles of our brothers and sisters.”
Please refer to the enclosed letter from Bishop McManus to
consider making a pledge to this appeal. We are approaching
our parish goal of $31,300 and with your generosity we can
attain our objective. Pledge forms are available in the pews.
DEVOTION AND NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH
St. Joseph’s life was filled with love - love that comes from
God. Once our hearts are opened to love, the face of the world
changes.
On Wednesday, August 24th at 7:00pm at our Basilica during the Devotion and Novena to our Patron, we will have the
opportunity to love God more and more and share with our
neighbors a faithful and generous love. Please join us as we
seek to fulfill God’s will for us.
We ask members of our Lector’s Ministry to carry the St.
Joseph statue into the sanctuary to gather with parishioners and
friends to invite God to be part of our daily life. Please jot
down your intentions on paper provided in the Chapel, to be
read during the novena.
Divine Mercy Icon - may be brought into your home so that
you, your family and friends may pray the Chaplet and experience spiritual enrichment. You may select how many days you
would like to accept the Icon into your domicile. Please call the

GYM UPDATE—GREAT NEWS!
We are happy to announce that the Gym Executive Committee received a letter from the Chairman of the Friends of St.
Joseph School Fund, Mr. Richard Piasecki, informing us of
approval to use all or part of the approximately $525,000 principal for the construction of the school gymnasium.
This donation as well as an additional $500,000 pledge from
an anonymous donor are contingent upon having the remaining
money needed to complete the project.
These anticipated donations (Friends of SJS Fund - $525,000
and the anonymous $500,000) plus cash on hand of $330,000
reduces our capital shortfall to a range of $500,000 to $700,000.
ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL NEWS
Reminder - St. Joseph School is offering Open Enrollment
for the fall semester. The school office is open from 8:00am—
1:00pm to register your child for Grades: Pre-K 2, 3 and 5 as
well as Kindergarten through Grade 8.

dinner at the Polish American Veterans Club.

COLLECTION FOR THE CHURCH IN CENTRAL
AND EASTERN EUROPE
Grants funded by this collection support pastoral projects,
scholarships and Catholic organizations working in areas formerly under Soviet control. The association is working with
the Czech government on many programs to protect the human
dignity of both mothers and children, advocating for the right to
life of the unborn.
Please keep these programs in your prayers and support the
efforts to rebuild pastoral capacity and create future leaders of
Catholics in that area.

defray expenses which would otherwise be supplemented by

REMEMBER YOUR LOVED ONES
Sanctuary candles at the Main Altar, Blessed Mother Altar
and Sacred Heart Altar are available at $25 each to honor an
individual for a special occasion, event or to remember a
deceased family member or friend. These candles are lit for
seven days (Sunday through Saturday) each week.
Please call the rectory to reserve a candle on a designated
altar in tribute to or in admiration of a unique person.

JUBILEUSZOWY ROK MIŁOSIERDZIA
Obecny Jubileuszowy Rok Miłosierdzia oraz posługa papieża
Franciszka pomaga nam zrozumieć, że serce Kościoła jest szeroko
otwarte dla wszystkich, a sercem Ewangelii jest miłosierdzie Boże.
Przepełnione miłosierdziem Bożym, nasze serca powinny służyć jako
kanały, którymi Jezus dociera ze swoim miłosierdziem do serc
wymagających uzdrowienia. Jezus jednocześnie ostrzega, że nasze
własne zbawienie nie jest gwarantowane jedynie przez Liturgię Słowa
(uczyłeś na ulicach naszych), ani tylko przez Eucharystię (jedliśmy i
piliśmy razem z Tobą). Ludzie z daleka, ze wschodu i z zachodu i z
północy i południa zasiądą za stołem w Królestwie Bożym.
Niezbędnym elementem do uzyskania zbawienia jest miłosierdzie.
Nigdy wiec nie powinniśmy pytać: Panie, czy tylko nieliczni będą
zbawieni? Kluczowym pytaniem jest: Czy ja będę zbawiony? W
odpowiedzi Jezus zadaje kolejne pytanie: "Czy okazałeś miłosierdzie
każdemu, swobodnie, chętnie, bez żadnych ograniczeń, bez warunków,
bez wyjątków"?
RELIGIA
Zajęcia katechetyczne rozpoczną się 19 września. Prosimy, aby
jaknajszybciej zarejestrować swoje dzieci. Opłata wynosi $45 za jedno
dziecko i $70 za dwoje lub więcej dzieci. Formularze zapisowe są
dostępne przy wejściach do bazyliki.

Sobotnia Szkola im. Marii Konopnickiej w Webster przyjmuje
zapisy na nowy rok szkolny 2016/2017. Program obejmuje 31
sobotnich zajęć (w godz. od 9 am – 1 pm). Dla zainteresowanych

Zarówno patronka naszej szkoły wzywa w swoich utworach do
umiłowania ziemi ojczystej i walki o przetrwanie języka polskiego,
jak też ukochany przez nas wielki Polak św. Jan Paweł II, podczas
pielgrzymek do Polski powtarzał „proszę was,... abyście nie podcinali
sami tych korzeni, z których wyrastamy”. Pouczał Polaków, którzy
wyemigrowali „(...) Niech nie zapomnają Ojczyzny, rodziny,
Kościoła, modlitwy (..) Niech pilnują aby (...) duchowo nie
zubożeli”.
Mając w pamięci Ojczyznę i te wspaniałe autorytety, z dumą i
misyjnym obowiązkiem wypełniają swoją pracę nauczyciele polskiej
szkoły. Starannie przygotowany program nauczania dla każdej grupy
wiekowej, uzupełniany jest wieloletnim doświadczeniem obecnej
kadry. Obecnie szkoła liczy 60-cioro uczniów, którzy uczą się
mówić, pisać i czytać w j. polskim, poznają historię i geografię Polski
również biorą udział w okolicznościowych akademiach, poznają nasze
piękne polskie tradycje i nawiązują wieloletnie przyjaźnie z innymi
polskimi dziećmi. Św. Jan Paweł II napisał „wymagajcie od siebie,
choćby inni nie wymagali”.
Cały zespół polskiej szkoły poczuwa się do odpowiedzialności nie
tylko za samych siebie ale i za nowe pokolenie Polaków, które będzie
budowało przyszłość na tym, co zostanie mu przekazane w domu
rodzinnym i otaczającym go środowisku.
NARODOWY DZIEŃ POLONII
Każdego roku w połączeniu z uroczystością Matki Bożej
Częstochowskiej, Polonia w Stanach Zjednoczonych wyrusza na
pielgrzymkę do sanktuarium w Doylestown, PA W tym roku
uroczystość odbędzie się w niedzielę, 28 sierpnia na Mszy św. o godz.
12:30. Głównym celebransem i kaznodzieją będzie Biskup Witold
Mroziewski, biskup pomocniczy Diecezji Brooklyn. Jak co roku
zostaną też przyznane nagrody "Pride of Polonia Award". Otrzymają je
T. Glembocki z McLean, VA.

Ojciec Święty Franciszek przypomina nam, że "nadszedł czas, aby
Kościół jeszcze raz podjął radosne wezwanie do miłosierdzia. Jest to
czas, aby wrócić do podstaw i wspólnie nieść słabości i zmagania
naszych braci i sióstr ".
Prosimy o zapoznanie się z załączonym listem biskupa Roberta
McManus, który zachęca nas, aby rozważyć złożenie ofiary na
szczytny cel, jakim jest Partners in Charity. Zbliżamy się już do
wyznaczonego dla naszej parafii celu: $31.500. Odpowiednie
formularze są dostępne w ławkach.
NOWENNA DO ŚWIĘTEGO JÓZEFA
Życie św. Józefa był wypełnione miłością, która pochodzi od Boga.
Gdy nasze serca są otwarte na miłość, są w stanie zmienić oblicze
świata.
W środę, 24 sierpnia o godzinie 19:00 w naszej Bazylice podczas
nowenny do naszego Patrona, będziemy mieli okazję, aby pokochać
Boga coraz bardziej i dzielić się z naszymi bliźnimi wiarą i hojną
miłością. Dołącz do nas w tym świętym czasie, kiedy staramy się
wypełniać wolę Boga i wypraszać u Niego potrzebna łaski.
W procesji z figurą św. Józefa pójdą Lektorzy. Zapraszamy
ZBIÓRKA DLA KOŚCIOŁA
W EUROPIE ŚRODKOWEJ I WSCHODNIEJ
Środki finansowane z tej zbiórki będą wspierać projekty
duszpasterskie, stypendia i organizacje katolickie działające
w obszarach, które uprzednio znajdowały się pod kontrolą sowiecką.
Stowarzyszenie współpracuje z rządem Czech w wielu programach
mających na celu ochrony godności ludzkiej zarówno matek jak
i dzieci, także prawo do życia tych jeszcze nienarodzonych.
Prosimy o modlitwę w ich intencji i wspieracie wysiłków na rzecz
odbudowy potencjału duszpasterskiego i tworzenia przyszłych
katolickich liderów w tamtym regionie. Odpowiednie koperty znajdują
się w miesięcznych pakietach z datą 27/28 sierpnia. Dziękujemy za
wsparcie.
FESTIWAL PARAFIALNY W DUDLEY
Mamy przyjemność ogłosić, że w Parafii świętego Andrzeja Boboli
odbędzie się Big Top Polish Festival. Rozpoczęcie w piątek, 26
sierpnia o godz. 16:30 i zakończy w sobotę, 27 sierpnia, w południe.
Dwa dni rodzinnej zabawy: Chicken Bar-B-Que w sobotę, o
godzinie 12:30 (bilety dostępne w przedsprzedaży) polskie i
amerykańskie jedzenie, do wygrania w loteriach nagrody pieniężne,
telewizor, 50/50 i Gift Basket, gry dziecięce, tańce do muzyki Maestro
Men w piątek i Eddie Foreman Orchestra w sobotę.
FRIENDS OF ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL FUND
Doroczna zbiórka organizowana przez Friends of st. Joseph School
Fund odbywa się każdego sierpnia. Odsetki z tego funduszu pozwalają
na pokrycie kosztów, jakie ponosi nasza szkoła, które w przeciwnym
razie musiałyby być uzupełnione przez podniesienie opłaty za szkołę,
zbiórki pieniędzy lub z funduszy parafialnyvh. Swoje ofiary można
złożyć używając "żółtą" kopertę każdej w chwili w ciągu miesiąca
sierpnia. W imieniu naszych uczniów, dziękujemy za wsparcie.
