GIVING OF ONESELF
Scientists have recently begun to discuss
the idea that the primary force behind all life
in the universe is self-gift. This is how everything from galaxies to human babies are
born and sustained.
If we read the opening of today’s passage from Isaiah correctly, we see that he anticipated twentieth-century scientists by
over twenty five hundred years. Using the self-giving example
of the rain and snow clouds that water the earth that then yields
fruit, which in turn is given over to nourish creatures, Isaiah
leads us to understand that the primary force behind all life is
the word of God. The ultimate giving of that word, we believe,
was Jesus Christ, who, in the greatest revelation of divine love,
gave of himself on the cross. To what degree are we in touch
with that self-giving God in whose image we are made? To
what extent do we really follow the self-giving example of
Christ into whose death and resurrection we were baptized,
whose ultimate self-gift we celebrate every week in the Eucharist? With God’s help, our lives can be like Isaiah’s rain and
snow and will return to heaven until we have done our part to

OUR LADY OF FATIMA PROCESSION
Our Lady appeared to the children on the 13th of the month
for five months asking them to pray the rosary each day. Please
join us on Sunday, July 13th at 7:00pm for the traditional
monthly outdoor candlelight procession honoring Our Lady of
Fatima. We invite parishioners, the Children of Mary, members of our societies, especially the Holy Rosary Sodality, our
parish ministries and altar servers to join in this public veneration of our Blessed Mother.
SUCCESSFUL PARTNERS IN CHARITY CAMPAIGN
Thank you to all our parishioners who so generously stepped
forward so that St. Joseph Basilica could exceed this year’s
goal. We were able to join other parishes in our diocese to assist the less fortunate and those in need with a total gift to the
diocese of $25,494. We appreciate the generosity of several
second-time contributors and parishioners who participated in
the in-pew collection. May God bless each one of you for your
caring and concern of others.

to recognize St. Joseph Basilica as a community of giving and

41st FESTIVAL UPDATE
Gross income from our 41st Festival was $70,637.92. Obviously the change of location, poor weather on Friday and Saturday had negatively affected the attendance. Net income will be
reported when we pay all expenses.
We are grateful to each and everyone who contributed in any
way with your time and diligence to make this a memorable
festival.
PILGRIMAGE REFLECTIONS
There is an exceptional feeling of accomplishment for people
who undertake a pilgrimage to a particular Shrine. From a
spiritual point of view they feel uplifted because their personal
intentions were presented in and prayed for in the holy sites
they visited. They feel physically and psychologically rejuvenated because they left their usual environment and daily routine, traveled to distant places, met different people, experienced the hospitality of many and were involved in their religious and devotional practices. The Pilgrimage of St. Joseph
Basilica accomplished that.
The highlights of our 11-day journey were the prayer and
Mass at the Shrine of St. Joseph in Kalisz and the celebration of
Mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel before the Miraculous Icon at Jasna Gora. The Shrine of St. Joseph in Kalisz,
located southwest of Warsaw, inspired prayer and was filled
with a devotional atmosphere. Veneration to St. Joseph began
there in the 17th century when an elderly man who lived in a
nearby village named, Szulec was ill and prayed to St. Joseph
for a happy death. One night he had a vision of a man, whom
he recognized as St. Joseph, who told him to paint a picture of
him and place it in a local church and he will recover. The man
indeed was restored to good health and he painted the picture
and placed it in the church as instructed in the vision Since that
time countless miracles have occurred which are documented in
large volumes of books in the Shrine.
At the end of our Mass, it was about 5pm, a large pilgrimage
arrived from another parish, accompanied by the Bishop and
also conducted a prayer service to St. Joseph. There are many
pilgrimages throughout the year coming in not only the spirit of
petition, but with gratitude for received graces.
Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine which receives 3.5million
pilgrims per year from Poland and other countries is one of the
most popular and holy center of devotional life. We celebrated
Mass before the Miraculous Icon at Jasna Gora and spent some
time in private prayer. Although it was a Monday, the Chapel
of the Church was filled with Pilgrims, mostly young people,
from many parts of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Italy.
Many people participated in night adorations which means they
are locked inside the church from 9PM until 4AM. The Miraculous Icon seems to be a magnet that attracts young and old,
simple and educated, heads of state and factory workers.
Besides private intentions, we offered this Pilgrimage for our
Parish, St. Joseph School, Gym and Parish Center. It gives me
hope that all the mementos brought back by our Pilgrims will
inspire them for a continuous devotional allegiance to our
Blessed Mother and St. Joseph.
Special Birthday Wishes - are being sent to our parishioner
Stephan Gornis as he celebrated another milestone of his life
on July 5th. May God continue to bless him with good health
and happiness throughout the year.
NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH
We ask parishioners and friends to join us on Wednesday,
July 16th for our continuing Novena and Devotion to our patron, St. Joseph who is not a saint for only a certain number of
souls, but he can help all of us. His patronage and fatherly protection is extended to all who seek it.
Members of our Parish Council will assist in bringing the
statue of our Patron from the Chapel of Our Lady of Czestochowa to the Sanctuary. Please complete the prayer intention
request form (available in the Chapel) with your needs to be
read out loud or silently during the devotion.

The Cash Calendar has been a fund raiser at St. Joseph’s
for several years and allows our parishioners to win a significant amount of money on a daily basis and at the same time
provide some help to the parish. In recent months the number
of sellers dwindled, therefore income is minimal. Proceeds are
designated toward our diocesan obligation debt. We must supplement our low weekly collections with this important fund
raiser. We are looking for sellers, if you are interested to help

SAINT JOSEPH HOME SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
We invite all SJS parents to join the HSA during their
“membership drive for 2014-2015. The Board is comprised of
members of the General HSA, which consists of parents, and
guardians of our students, as well as members of the faculty.

FOUR REASONS TO LOVE THE MASS
AND REMEMBER OUR LOVED ONES
1) Meet God in the flesh. Just because you don’t feel the
rush of the Holy Spirit or see a radiant light doesn’t mean
nothing is happening at Mass. He is there in the flesh.
2) You’re a baptized person needed by your community.
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there
am I in the midst of them”. We help worship God just by being
there.
3) You get something to take home with you. The homily
joins the Gospel message with the there and now of our lives.
Its purpose is to give us something to think about and act on in
the coming week.
4) “Do this in memory of me” is the only direct order Jesus
gave to his followers. That means God is the one who initiates
this encounter with us. And when God asks us to do
something, we should do it.
We can remember our deceased loved ones or offer a mass
for our living relatives or friends in a special intention for
special celebrations, birthdays, etc. Daily masses are available
at our Basilica for only $10 and masses on weekends and
holydays are $15.
This is a traditional way to bring families together to pray for
and keep our loved ones in mind. Please call the rectory to
schedule a Mass.
OFFICE OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Registration for your son/daughter for the fall session is
continuing. The fee for one child is $35 and $55 for two or
more children. Early registration is suggested for planning
purposes. Forms are available in the sacristy.
YOUTH GROUP NEWS
As part of their Summer Theater Program the Youth group is
preparing for their presentation of “One in a Million” on
August 7th and 8th.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Women in Scripture Workshop - will be held at St. Anthony’s,
Dudley, MA July 20th from 1:30—3:00pm. The first workshop will
explore the lives of Ruth and Naomi. All interested youth in grades 112 are invited to learn more about these role models of Faith. Cost is
$4 to cover the cost of materials and the patch. Please bring a canned
good to donate to St. Vincent de Paul as part of the program.

Jest takie ryzyko, że ziarno słowa Bożego
pada na nie najlepszy grunt naszych serc.
Potrzeba z naszej strony sporego wysiłku
i wytrwałości, żeby do swego życia słowo
Boże i je zachować. Czasem może nam się wydawać, że kiedy
Bóg do nas mówi, to jakby „rzucał grochem o ścianę”… Ale
jest też Jego obietnica, którą przypomina nam Izajasz: „Słowo,
które wychodzi z ust moich, nie wraca do mnie bezowocnie,
zanim wpierw nie dokona tego, co chciałem, i nie spełni
pomyślnie swego posłannictwa”.

Maryja spotykała się przez pięć miesięcy w Fatimie z dziećmi,
prosząc je, aby same odmawiały różaniec i nakłaniały do tego innych.
Posłuszni tym napomnieniom, my również odmawiamy różaniec
w naszej parafii każdego trzynastego dnia miesiąca o godz. 19:00.
W bieżącym miesiącu to nabożeństwo przypada na dziś. Zapraszamy
parafian, Dzieci Maryi i ministrantów, a także wszystkich, którym
bliska jest Maryja i wzorując się na Niej chcą uwielbiać Boga.

SAINT JOSEPH HOME SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
Zachęcamy wszystkich rodziców SJS do przyłączenia się do HSA

się z rodziców i opiekunów naszych uczniów, jak i pracowników
szkoły. Spotkania odbywają się cztery razy w roku, w celu wspierania

RELIGIA
Prosimy o zapisywanie dzieci na zajęcia katechetyczne w nowym
roku szkolnym. Opłata za jedno dziecko wynosi $35 oraz $55 dla
dwóch lub więcej dzieci. Wcześniejsze zapisanie dzieci pozwoli nam
lepiej zaplanować pracę na przyszły rok. Formularze zapisowe
są dostępne w zakrystii.

Pragniemy poinformować, że dochód brutto z tegorocznego festiwali
wyniusł $70,637.92. Dochód “na czysto” podamy w najbliższym
czasie, kiedy tylko zostaną opłacone wszystkie rachunki i należnosci
związane z festiwalem.
PIELGRZYMKA DO POLSKI
Ludziom, którzy podejmują pielgrzymkę do specjalnego miejsca,
towarzyszy wyjątkowe poczucie spełnienia. Z duchowego punktu
widzenia, ponieważ czują, że zanoszone, znane tylko im intencje,
zostały przedstawione w modlitwach w sanktuariach, które odwiedzili.
Czują się również fizycznie odmłodzeni, ponieważ opuścili ich zwykłe
otoczenie i wyruszyli do odległych miejsc, spotkali różnych ludzi,
doświadczył gościnności wielu i uczestniczyli obrzędach religijnych.
Pielgrzymka do Polski, którą ostatnio odbyliśmy zrealizowała
wszystkie te cele.
Oczywiście punktem kulminacyjnym 11-dniowej podróży była
modlitwa i Msza św. w Sanktuarium Świętego Józefa w Kaliszu
i przed Cudownym Obrazem w kaplicy Matki Boskiej
Częstochowskiej na Jasnej Górze. Sanktuarium Świętego Józefa
w Kaliszu, położonym na południowy zachód od Warszawy,
inspirował do modlitwy w atmosferze pobożności. Odprawianie
nabożeństwo do świętego Józefa rozpoczęto tam w XVII wieku, kiedy
to starszy, chory człowiek, się modlił do świętego Józefa o szczęśliwą
śmierć. Pewnej nocy doświadczył wizji człowieka, w którym
rozpoznał świętego Józefa, który powiedział mu, aby zlecił
namalowanie Jego obrazu i umieszczenie go w miejscowym kościele.
Józef obiecał również że człowiek ów nie umrze. Człowiek ten
rzeczywiście odzyskał zdrowie i kazał namalować obraz św. Józefa.
Od tego czasu, w owym kościele miały miejsce liczne cuda, które są
udokumentowane. W ciągu całego roku wiele pielgrzymek przybywa
do Sanktuarium zanosząc do Boga swoje intencje jak również
dziękując mu za otrzymane łaski.
Sanktuarium Matki Boskiej Częstochowskiej, które odwiedza
3.5 milliona pielgrzymów rocznie z Polski i z zagranicy, jest jednym
z najbardziej popularnych ośrodków życia duchowego i pobożności
w Polsce. Będąc tam sprawowaliśmy Mszę św. przed Cudownym
Obrazem na Jasnej Górze i spędziliśmy trochę czasu na prywatnej
modlitwie. Mimo, że był to poniedziałek, Kaplica Matki Bożej była
pełena pielgrzymów, w większości ludzi młodych, z różnych części
Polski, Słowacji, Węgier i Włoch. Wiele osób uczestniczyło
w nocnych adoracjach, co oznacza, że pozostali zamknięci wewnątrz
murów klasztornych od Apelu Jasnogórskiego do 4 nad ranem.
Cudowna ikona wydaje się być magnesem, który przyciąga młodych
i starszych, prostych i wykształconych, głowy państw i zwykłych
robotników.
Oprócz prywatnych intencji, modliliśmy się też intencjach naszej
parafii, szkoły, sali gimnastycznej i centrum parafialnego.
CZTERY POWODY BY KOCHAĆ EUCHARYSTIĘ
1) Spotkanie z Bogiem w Jego Ciele. Tylko dlatego, że nie czujemy
poruszenia Ducha Świętego lub widzimy promieni światła nie znaczy,
że nic się nie dzieje na Mszy św. Bóg jest tam obecny w swoim Ciele.
2) Jesteś ochrzczony i potrzebny w społeczności wierzących. „Bo
gdzie są dwaj albo trzej zebrani w imię moje, tam jestem pośród nich
". Pomagamy czcić Boga już wtedy, jeśli tylko jesteśmy obecni na
Mszy.
3) Jest coś, co zabierasz z sobą do domu. Homilia łączy przesłanie
Ewangelii z „tu i teraz” w naszym życiu. Jej celem jest danie nam
materiału do rozważań i inspiracji do działania w nadchodzącym
tygodniu .
4) "To czyńcie na moją pamiątkę" to jedyny nakaz jaki Jezus dał
swoim uczniom. To znaczy, że Bóg jest tym, który inicjuje to
spotkanie z nami. A kiedy Bóg wzywa nas do zrobienia czegoś,
powinniśmy to dla Niego zrobić.
Pamiętamy o naszych zmarłych bliskich lub ofiarować Mszę św.
za naszych żyjących krewnych lub przyjaciół w specjalnej intencji
lub z okazji specjalnej uroczystości np. urodzin, itp. Stypendium
za Codzienną Mszę św. w naszej Bazylice to tylko $10 i $15
w niedzielę.
