God’s Promise to All People.
Today Isaiah reminds the people of God that the land shall be
restored to their possession, they shall rejoice to see their people
return from the bondage of exile, and that they shall be a light to
the nations. In other words, through the people of Israel, the
Savior shall come to all people who seek God with a sincere
heart. This brings joy and the radiance of God’s glory to all the
world and to all people everywhere. Through the fidelity of the
people of God, and through God’s fidelity to them, all people
shall become God’s children and rejoice in the fulfillment of
God’s promise to Israel.
The second collection this weekend is being taken for the
Diocesan Obligations
Next weekend the second collection is designated for the
Catholic University of America

This inscription is a sign of the resilience of our tradition and the
fulfillment of the magi’s quest for meaning and peace.
CHRISTMAS REFLECTIONS
The Christmas celebration at Saint Joseph Basilica attracts a large
number of people from different locations and even states because
of the uplifting liturgy, accompanied by the musical program and
the decor of the Basilica. We owe special gratitude to our organist
Robert Wojcik and the several choirs–adult, youth and children,
who helped us to experience the true meaning of Christmas day.
Also words of gratitude to various musicians who with dedication
assist the choirs throughout the year.
Words of appreciation and sincere thanks to the Altar Guild
under the leadership of Sylvia and Fred Kitka who once again
outdid themselves in the church decor. They were assisted by Ed
Babula, Louis Lariviere, Peter Stachowicz, Kevin Rekowski,
Eugene Rudnicki, Michael Knych, Connie Czechowski, Pat
Parslow, Gen Lariviere, Charlotte Strzelewicz, Dottie Kasierski,
Joan McHugh, and Kathleen Kitka. May your stewardship of time
and talent continue to enrich our Saint Joseph Basilica community.

DIVINE MERCY SERVICES
This Sunday at 3 p.m. the customary first Sunday of the month
devotions to the Divine Mercy will be prayed followed by
benediction. All parish family members are encouraged to come to
the church and pray for needed graces.

ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL ATHLETICS PROGRAM
The St. Joseph School Athletics program is off to an excellent
start. Our young athletes began practicing in late September and
kicked off the season on November 22nd against the St. Anne’s
Warriors and took 2 of 3 games. Since then our JV boys have
continued to play excellent team basketball and now hold first
place in their division. The Varsity girls are led this season by two
8th graders Blair Reilly and Nicole Tetreault who have worked very
hard and have been excellent mentors and role models for the
young team consisting of mostly 6th graders and younger. This
basketball stewardship will be the foundation for future strong girls
basketball teams. The current Varsity Boys basketball team had
some huge shoes to fill after coming off an undefeated 2007-2008
season and losing (6) 8th graders. They have filled those shoes with
a lot of hard work. The Varsity boys also defeated an excellent St.
Louis squad to move into first place. At the core of our success is
a very talented Cheering squad who have been to all our games
supporting our teams as they prepare for the season. SJS Athletics
is also fielding a 10 member intramural basketball program which
is crucial to sustaining a strong basketball program. The 8th graders
playing in their final games as a St. Joseph Eagle this season are
Blair Reilly, Nicole Tetreault, Aaron Holmberg, Daniel Gago,
Dawid Ochocki, Dominic Iwanski, Eric Marsh and Matthew
Huberdault. The Athletics program would like to thank Mr.
Cushing, our faculty advisors Donna Recko and Carmine
Cacciapuoti and the entire SJS staff for its support this season. –

CHRISTMAS DONATIONS
I would like to gratefully recognize several individuals who in the
spirit of Christmas sharing and gratitude to God for all his blessings
during the year 2008 made a substantial contribution to Saint
Joseph Basilica. Two individuals who are not parishioners made a
donation of $10,000 each. Another non-parishioner who also wants
to remain anonymous made a $5000 donation. From our Saint
Joseph Basilica family one person made a $1000 contribution. I
want to commend these generous and dedicated persons for their
faith and understanding that whatever we have is a gift from God
and should be shared with His Church and others. They will also be
able to take advantage of the year-end charitable tax deduction.
May their stewardship be an inspiration to all of us as we entreat
God’s blessing for the New Year on all those who serve God and
respond to the needs of others. Bog Zaplac and God Bless You!

WITH GRATITUDE
On behalf of Saint Joseph School I want to thank the Friends of
St. Joseph School for the donation of $4000 which represents the
interest from the fund. I am grateful to all the parishioners who
support the school and to the directors for their dedication to our
students.
ICE STORM DAMAGE
The high winds of the ice storm on December 11th caused damage
to the roof on the convent and the side entrance to the church by
dislodging several slate plates which resulted in water damage
inside the convent and in the entrance to the church. The repair was
very difficult considering the height, which required scaffolding,
and the icy and snowy weather, nevertheless, it was completed
before the subsequent storm.
RUG REPLACEMENT IN CHURCH
I am pleased to inform you that the damaged rug in front of the
sanctuary on the left side and in the main aisle was replaced. I hope
that this new rug will serve us well for several years to come. The
most damaging season for the rugs is the winter when sand and salt
is inevitably brought into the church on shoes and boots.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY IN THE NEW YEAR
We extend our best wishes to the following parish family
members who will celebrate their nonagenarian birthdays this
month: Stella Bishop, Joseph Knych, Cecilia Tabor, Adela
Truedson, Rose Walkowiak, Stanley Zackiewicz. Wishing you
many blessings from God on your special day and throughout the

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
UROCZYSTOŚĆ OBJAWIENIA PAŃSKIEGO
Dzisiejsza niedziela obchodzona jest jako Uroczystość
Objawienia Pańskiego, która tradycyjnie nazywana jest
Świętem Trzech Króli. W Trzech Mędrcach zmierzających
z darami do Nowonarodzonego Jezusa, bardzo wyraźnie
jest obecna prawda o bliskości Boga. On przyszedł do
każdego człowieka. Odkupienie dokonało się dla każdego
bez wyjątku. Nie znamy motywów ich długiej wędrówki
i poszukiwań Mesjasza. Z pewnością nie szukali swojej
chwały. To szlachetność serca i siła woli kazała im
wyruszyć w te drogę do Betlejem, gdzie ofiarowali
Jezusowi dary: złoto – symbol władzy królewskiej,
kadzidło – wskazujące na Boga i mirrę – zapowiedź
cierpień. Spotkanie z Jezusem odmieniło ich. Wracali do
domów szczęśliwi, ze świadomością, że spotkali Tego,
którego szukali. Od XVI wieku w tym dniu poświęca się
kadzidło i kredę, na pamiątkę darów, które Mędrcy złożyli
Panu. Na znak, że przyjęliśmy Syna Bożego w naszym
życiu, na drzwiach naszych domów piszemy poświeconą
kredą litery K+M+B 2009 oznaczające imiona Królów, a
także łacińskie zdanie: Christus mansionem benedicat –
Niech Chrystus mieszkanie błogosławi. Poświęcona kreda
i kadzidło jest dostępna koło szopki.
NOWENNA DO MIŁOSIERDZIA BOŻEGO
Dzisiaj o godz. 3.00 po południu w naszym kościele będzie
Nowenna Do Miłosierdzia Bożego. Nowenna ta jest
sprawowana zawsze w pierwszą niedzielę miesiąca o godz.
3.00 p.m., która zgodnie z życzeniem Chrystusa
przekazanego za pośrednictwem św. Siostry Faustyny
Kowalskiej jest godziną Miłosierdzia dla świata.
Zachęcamy do uczestnictwa w we wspólnej modlitwie.
REFLEKSJA PO ŚWIĘTACH
Święta Bożego Narodzenia za nami. Licznie gromadziliśmy się
w naszym kościele, aby dziękować Panu Bogu na wspaniały cud
Wcielenia Słowa Bożego. Wraz z nami modliło się wielu gości,
którzy przyjechali do nas na Święta. Swoistą atmosferę tworzyły
też piękne dekoracje w naszej Bazylice. Wyrażamy wdzięczność
wszystkim, którzy zajmowali się świątecznym wystrojem
Bazyliki. Dziękujemy Robertowi Wójcikowi, chórom, dzieciom
i solistom za przygotowanie pięknej oprawy muzycznej.
W imieniu ks. Józefa i ks. Ryszarda chcę wyrazić wdzięczność
za waszą pamięć, życzenia, modlitwę oraz ofiary z okazji Świąt.
Niech Wszystkim Pan Bóg obficie błogosławi w Nowym Roku.
NOWY KARPET
Przed Świętami w jednej z naw bocznych i nawie głównej
bazyliki został położony nowy karpet, w miejsce uszkodzonego
starego. Mamy nadzieję, że będzie służył przez wiele lat.
LEPIEJ ROZUMIEĆ, LEPIEJ UCZESTNICZYĆ
Procesja z darami
Otwórz oczy: Dary, które przynosimy do ołtarza, to chleb, który
stanie się Ciałem Pańskim, i wino, które stanie się Krwią.
Zalecane jest, by te dary przynosili wierni. Kapłan przejmuje je od
nich i składa na ołtarzu. Można włączyć do tej procesji inne dary
materialne przeznaczone na potrzeby ubogich lub Kościoła.
Elementem przygotowania darów jest zbiórka pieniędzy (tzw.
kolekta lub taca). To jest również czynność liturgiczna! Jest
idealnie, kiedy kolekta jest zbierana sprawnie i nie przeciąga się
na dalsze części Mszy św. (wystarczy więcej zbierających).
Koszyk z pieniędzmi powinien być przyniesiony w procesji z
darami i położony w pobliżu ołtarza.
Bądź obecny: Chleb i wino są symbolami daru, który pragniemy
ofiarować Bogu. Włącz się w procesję z darami ze swoim
duchowym darem. Daj Mu to, co posiadasz, z pokorą i
wdzięcznością. Chrystus weźmie te dary i przetworzy w paschalną
ofiarę składaną Bogu Ojcu. Bóg nie czeka na coś, ale na ciebie.
Ofiaruj mu swoje życie. Przynosimy też pieniądze. Nie myślmy,
że to jakaś brudna, banalna sprawa. One są owocem naszej pracy.
Cząstką owoców tej pracy dzielimy się ze wspólnotą Kościoła,
którą współtworzymy i za którą odpowiadamy.
Złożenie chleba na ołtarzu
Otwórz oczy: Chleb używany w Eucharystii początkowo nie
różnił się od zwykłego chleba używanego przy posiłkach. Na
Zachodzie około X wieku zaczęto używać chleba niekwaszonego,
wypiekanego w klasztorach w formie hostii i przeznaczonego
tylko do Mszy świętej. Tak jest do dziś. Przepisy liturgiczne
mówią, że chleb do Eucharystii ma być czysto pszenny,
niekwaszony, i ma mieć wygląd pokarmu. Kapłan, składając chleb
na ołtarzu, odmawia po cichu piękną modlitwę. Trzyma przy tym
patenę wzniesioną nieco nad ołtarzem. „Błogosławiony jesteś,
Panie, Boże wszechświata, bo dzięki Twojej hojności
otrzymaliśmy chleb, który jest owocem ziemi i pracy rąk
ludzkich; Tobie go przynosimy, aby stał się dla nas chlebem
życia”.
Bądź obecny: Chleb jest „owocem ziemi i pracy rąk ludzkich”.
Spotkanie Bożego daru i ludzkiego wysiłku. Dziękuj za obfitość
Bożych darów, za ziemię, która daje pokarm. Zobacz w tym
kawałku chleba cząstkę pracy Twojej i innych. Ofiaruj Bogu
„swój codzienny chleb” – całą niełatwą prozę życia: pot, krew,
łzy.
W DARZE DLA PARAFII
Dziękujemy za wszystkie ofiary dla parafii, które w ostatnim
czasie zoczono z okazji Świat Bożego Narodzenia. Szczególnie
dziękujemy dwóm osobom z poza parafii za ofiary $10,000 każda.
Ponadto dziękujemy ofiarodawcom, którzy również wolą pozostać
anonimowi za ofiary: $5,000 oraz $1,000. Niech Bóg, który jest
Źródłem wszelkiego błogosławieństwa hojnie wynagrodzi
wszystkim ofiarodawcom.
KOLEKTY
Druga kolekta dzisiaj przeznaczona jest na spłatę naszych
zobowiązań wobec diecezji. W następną niedzielę zaś, na pomoc
Katolickiemu Uniwersytetowi Ameryki w Waszyngtonie.
Kolekta w Uroczystość Narodzenia Pańskiego wyniosła $7300
(wliczając $1330.76 bez kopert). W ostatnią niedzielę, 28 grudnia,
złożyliśmy $6560.26 (wliczając $308.26 bez kopert); Ogrzewanie:
$1434; Zobowiązania wobec Diecezji: $563.
