Who are “we” as we sing “We are his people, the sheep of his flock” in the responsorial psalm? It is very easy to think that it is just us, at this Mass, or just the members of this parish or diocese, or perhaps we are thinking it is all Roman Catholics in the United States. But “we” are much larger and broader than that. If you take a globe or atlas in your hand, it would be difficult to point to any place on land where “we” aren’t singing this psalm today. “We” continue to grow not just in numbers but in complexity and diversity as the work begun by Paul and Barnabas in today’s first reading continues. But, even though who “we” are, the flock of the Lord, is almost beyond our ability to comprehend, we all hear the voice of Jesus Christ, our one and only shepherd, as we continue through the Easter season to follow him faithfully. Next weekend the second collection is for reducing our Diocesan Obligations. PARTNERS IN CHARITY Today the second collection is directed to the Partners in Charity mission. Your contributions will be a source of needed assistance for the impoverished individuals in the Diocese of Worcester. To reach our assigned quota, we are looking for an additional contribution of $3358. Several parishes have already surpassed their quota and we hope that with your cooperation we will reach our goal. Word of Life. The bishops of the United States remain committed to FIRST EUCHARIST CELEBRATION Next Sunday a great celebration at St. Joseph Basilica will take place when the second grade children of St. Joseph School and the Religious Education class receive the sacrament of Holy Communion at the 12:15 p.m. liturgy. Please pray that the following children may continue to grow in Christ’s love through receiving Him frequently in the Holy Eucharist: Piotr Bielecki, Paul Davey, Jessica Gardner, Sara Kochanowski, Jason Nowak, Aleksandra Piascik, Antoni Piascik, Haley Sautter, Nathalie Soto, Ann Marie Taylor, Rachael Taylor and Lucas Yash. Perhaps you can send them a card for their First Communion. Just put it in an envelope addressed with their name and the Religious Education Office. Mail it, drop it off at the rectory or put in the basket that will be on the tables in the back of the Church. It would be greatly appreciated and shows them that they are supported and loved by their Parish Family. – Mary Jolda, DRE health care reform that will help everyone to be cared for and assure that no one will be deliberately killed.....A health care reform bill without adequate protection of personal conscience would be an earthquake in our legal and political life. The laws of the United States have protected conscientious objectors in many areas of life. To remove that protection in health care now would bring us close to despotism. – Cardinal Francis MAY DEVOTIONS The month of May is dedicated to the Blessed Mother. In St. Joseph Basilica we will sing the traditional litany to the Blessed Mother on Sundays following the 11 a.m. Mass. On Mondays the devotions will be at 7 p.m. in English, on Fridays at 7 p.m. in SACRIFICIAL OFFERINGS - APRIL 18, 2010 Weekly $3943.44(incl. $286.43 in loose money); Diocesan Obligations $496; Fuel $573; School Excellence $99. Stewardship Note. Paul and Barnabas encountered both violent rejection and joyful acceptance of the message that they preached. We, too, may meet with mixed reactions when we use our gifts in the service of God. But, the Gospel assures us, the reward for those who follow faithfully is eternal life. 1-25 Club Winner for the 5th Week - #89 Zofia Walker George Jan. 31, 2010 Page 3 April 25, 2010 - 25 kwiecien 2010 r. Polish. On Wednesdays (6:30 p.m. and Sundays 2 p.m.) bilingual Marian devotions will be prayed at St. Andrew Bobola Church in Dudley. Crowning of the Statue of the Blessed Mother. It has long been a tradition to dedicate either the first Sunday or first Monday of May to a special ceremony called Crowning of the Statue of the Blessed Mother with fresh spring flowers. At our Basilica the crowning will take place on Monday, May 3rd, at 7 p.m. In this devotional ceremony the most important role is played by the children of the First Holy Communion Class. We request that they come in their official attire to honor the Blessed Mother and to dedicate their life to her motherly care. We ask all the altar servers, parish organizations, parish ministries and parishioners to take part in this liturgical celebration. All participants should gather on the school parking lot to process to church. (In case of inclement weather we will gather in the church vestibule.) FORTY HOURS DEVOTION On Sunday, May 16, we begin the Forty Hours devotion at St. Joseph Basilica after the 11 a.m. Mass. It is a traditional Eucharistic Devotion where the Eucharist is exposed for forty hours for public adoration and prayers. The Eucharist will be exposed on Sunday until 4 p.m. closing with services including the singing of the Stearns Vespers. Monday is a private day open for individual adoration and closing with services at 7 p.m. These Forty Hours will conclude on Tuesday with a Eucharistic procession. We kindly ask you to reserve these special dates on your calendar. The ratio of 20:1 is educationally advantageous for the students as well as for the teacher to provide quality education and have enough time for personal interaction with the students. Page 4 Pre-K. The popularity and increasing enrollment motivated the Administration of the School to open a special program for the 3year-olds called pre-school. Pre-K will be for those in immediate preparation for Kindergarten. Needless to say, these programs require arranging new rooms with appropriate equipment.
