Stewardship Note: “I have come to rate all as loss in the light
of the surpassing knowledge of my Lord Jesus Christ. For his
sake I have forfeited everything; I have accounted all else rubbish so that Christ may be my wealth.” St. Paul’s knowledge of
Christ redefined the true meaning of wealth. A steward, like St.
Paul, understands Christ as the most valuable gift of all.
FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
March 17, 2013
I consider everything as a loss because of the supreme good
of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
- Philippians 3:8
FORGIVEN
Today’s liturgy continues the message of
forgiveness and reconciliation that we heard
last week. The Church seems to be doing its
utmost to deliver one simple message:
“Your sins are forgiven!” What good news
this is!
Isaiah declares that God’s saving action on
our behalf is not something trapped in the
past, but here and now. Paul urges us to recognize that true life
is not “won” by following laws, however strictly, but is a free
gift of God. Thus, our focus must be on the future, not on past
misdeeds. Our eyes must be on the prize of life forever with
God.
In the Gospel, Jesus is challenged to demonstrate that he is a
law-keeper, but he knows that this is a trap. If he counsels
mercy, he will be declared an opponent of the law. If he follows the law and condones its punishment, he will be denounced as in inciter to murder. Jesus decides to do neither.
Instead, he turns the tables and invites the crowd to forgo
“legality” for the sake of forgiveness and reconciliation.

POPE FRANCIS
On Wednesday, March 13th in late afternoon, it was announced that the cardinals gathered in conclave in the Sistine
Chapel elected a new successor of Peter —His name is Jorge
Mario Cardinal Bergoglio, Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He assumed the name Pope Francis. He will be the spiritual leader of 1.2 billion Catholics and in a way the shepherd of
the world.
Whatever the Pope says and does affects the world. It was
clearly visible by the presence of the news media of the world
who were present in Vatican Square watching the chimney of
the Sistine Chapel. They all were eager to be in Rome to report
this news as it evolved.
His Holiness’ personality will help him to lead the Catholic
Church of the world. As He begins his Petrine ministry, let us
remember Him in our prayers.

SOLEMNITY OF ST. JOSEPH
On March 19th Saint Joseph Basilica will celebrate the feast
day of St. Joseph, patron of our Basilica community. A nineday novena in our particular intentions, began on Monday,
March 11th, and will continue after 6:30am Masses. St. Joseph
as patron of the Universal Church enjoys great popularity and
devotional presence. Numerous shrines, churches and basilicas
dedicated to his name are filled with pilgrims and visitors who
seek his powerful intercession. May this novena during the
Lenten season be a great occasion for each one of us to obtain
the needed blessings in our personal and family life.
St. Joseph Basilica has the privilege to grant a plenary or
partial indulgence to everyone who visits the Basilica on this
day and fulfills the regular obligations.
Lenten confession will be at 6:00pm with visiting priests for
your convenience. We invite parishioners to Solemn Mass

SAINT JOSEPH SCHOOL NEWS
Our Principal, Mr. Cushing recently (Mar. 3-5) attended the
2013 New England Catholic Schools Principals and Administrators Conference in Newport, RI.
The keynote presenter was Dr. Carole Eipers, the former DRE
of the Archdiocese of Chicago and present Executive Director
of Catechists for Sadlier, Inc. Over 100 Principals and Superintendents of the 10 New England Diocese were in attendance.
Focus of the conference was on:
1) The Holy Vocation of Catholic School Leadership
2) Lessons of leadership from Jesus Christ
3) The 10 most prominent characteristics of prominent leaders
4) What is a Holy School ?
5) The qualities of executive presence
6 ) The seven themes of Catholic School teaching
7) Thirty-two characteristics of leadership
8)The principal as a catechetical leader in the Catholic School
Reflecting on Scripture and the documents of the Church, Dr.
Eipers discussed how teachers can affirm ways they already
share faith with their students while suggesting new ways. She
further illuminated this vision with her own stories and anecdotes. The attendees were also serenaded by 50 members of the
St. Mary Academy-Bay View Choral Performance as well as
the Bishop Hendricken Young Mens Chorus.

PROJECT LIFE & LIBERTY POSTCARD CAMPAIGN
The U.S. Bishop’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities and the
U.S. Bishops’ Ad Hoc Committee on Religious Liberty, with
the National Committee for a Human Life Amendment, are cosponsoring this campaign.
Forty years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court in its Roe v. Wade
and Doe v. Bolton decisions legalized abortion on demand.
Today the threats to human life, born and unborn, not only continue but have expanded to include attacks on our religious
freedom.
The need for concerned citizens to speak out is greater than
ever. With a new Congress, our federal elected officials should
be urged to support and strengthen existing laws against government funding and promotion of abortion and to improve
protection for religious freedom. Government must not force
Americans to violate their religious and moral beliefs on respect
for life when they provide health care or sponsor or purchase
health coverage.
Please refer to the flier, complete the postcard strip (placed in
the pews) and return in the collection basket. The collected
cards will sent to the Diocesan Respect Life Office to be forwarded to our Congressmen.
HOLY ROSARY SODALITY
Bake Sale will be held on the weekend of Mar., 23-24 on
Sat., from 2 - 5:30pm and on Sun., from 8 - 11:00am in the

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
PIĄTA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA
17 marca 2013
„Wszystko uznaję za stratę ze względu na najwyższa wartość poznania Jezusa Chrystusa.” (Flp 3, 8)
Jesteśmy pochwyceni w Wielkim Poście.
Najpierw „na grzechu”, jak kobieta z
dzisiejszej Ewangelii. Doświadczamy z
przerażeniem jego skutków: strachu,
upokorzenia, odrzucenia przez ludzi,
obrzydzenia wobec siebie. Ale jest też drugie
„pochwycenie”, o którym pisze św. Paweł.
Kiedy już wiemy, że „nie mamy swojej
sprawiedliwości”. Jesteśmy pochwyceni „z grzechu”, ocaleni
przez Jezusa słowami: „Ja ciebie nie potępiam”. Poza tym
pochwyceniem „wszystko inne uznajemy za śmieci”.
Druga kolekta w następnym tygodniu będzie przeznaczona
na pokrycie kosztów utrzymania i energii.

ODPUST PARAFIALNY
We wtorek, 19 marca obchodzimy w naszej Bazylice odpust
parafialny. W poniedziałek rozpoczęliśmy nowennę do św.
Mnóstwo sanktuariów i miejsc
parafian i pielgrzymów, którzy wypraszają u Boga potrzebne
łaski. Niech i dla nas odmawiana teraz nowenna będzie okazją
to poproszenia Boga o wsparcie w naszych osobistych
intencjach.
Swiętego i przyjęciu Komunii sw..
PARTNERS IN CHARITY
Dwa tygodnie temu w naszej parafii rozpoczęliśmy zbiórkę
na diecezjalną akcję charytatywną Partners in Charity.
HABEMUS PAPAM
Z radością informujemy, że w ubiegłą środę w godzinach
wieczornych czasu europejskiego, kardynałowie zebrani w
Kaplicy Sykstyńskiej ogłosili nowego Następcę św. Piotra.
Został nim Argentyńczyk, kardynał Jorge Mario Bergoglio,
arcybiskup Buenos Aires. Przyjął on imię FRANCISZEK.
Dziękujemy Bogu za nowego Ojca Świętego i wspieramy Go
naszymi modlitwami w Jego niełatwej służbie przewodzenia
Kościołowi w obecnych czasach.
REKOLEKCJE I PIELGRZYMKA
Witamy serdecznie pielgrzymów z New Britain i zapraszamy
na wspólną Eucharystię o godz. 11: 00, którą poprzedzi
możliwość spowiedzi od godz. 10: 30. Jest to początek naszych
Rekolekcji Wielkopostnych.
W trakcie rekolekcji, ks. Rekolekcjonista, Marek Wójcik oraz
ks. Grzegorz, będą odwiedzali z posługą sakramentalną tych
parafian, którzy nie mogą uczestniczyć w nabożeństwach w
świątyni. Aby umówić wizytę duszpasterską prosimy o kontakt
z biurem parafialnym pod numerem 508 943 0467. Prosimy o
nie odkładanie wizyty księdza do Wielkiego Tygodnia.
KAMPANIA NA RZECZ ŻYCIA I WOLNOŚCI
Biskupi z Comittee on Pro-Life Activities oraz biskupi z Ad
Hoc Committee on Religious Liberty we współpracy z National
Comitte for a Human Life Amendment są organizatorami akcji
mającej na celu przeciwstawieniu się narastającej fali
zagrożenia życia zarówno narodzonego jak i nienarodzonego.
W dzisiejszych czasach, bardziej niż kiedykolwiek, potrzeba
wyraźnego sprzeciwu wobec ustawodawców promujących i
pozwalających na aborcję, a także forsujących prawa
zagrażające wolności religijnej. Amerykański rząd nie może
zmuszać obywateli do łamania ich przekonań religijnych i
moralnych w zakresie opieki zdrowotnej i ubezpieczeń
zdrowotnych.
do Diocesan Respct for Life Office, a następnie przekazane
naszym kongresmenom.
PIELKGRZYMKA DO SANKTUARIUM W
STOCKBRIDGE
do Sanktuarium Miłosierdzia Bożego w Stockbridge. Chętnych
prosimy o kontakt z biurem parafialnym lub księdzem
Grzegorzem. Opłata $15. Pozostało tylko kilka wolnych
