SCHOLARSHIP
Bishop Kearney is a Student Sponsor Partners (SSP)
school for young women sponsored by Sisters of St. Joseph. They are located at 2202 60th St., Brooklyn, NY
11204.
Students who apply and qualify for SSP will receive a
scholarship, and the family will only pay $800 per year
plus school fees. Eligibility for SSP is determined by the
families’ income, and priority is given to students from
low-income families who typically have a middle school
GPA between 75 - 85.

HE GOOD NEWS
Today’s readings begin with a few verses from the
book of Job. First, Job complains that his nights drag on
endlessly. Then, worse yet, “My days are swifter than a
weaver’s shuttle; / they come to an end without
hope” (Job 7:6). Not exactly encouraging, these
lamentations, not when taken alone.
Most of us have been there, though, and the antidote is
the “good news” that Paul found so compelling that “an
obligation has been imposed on me, and woe to me if I do
not preach it!” (1 Corinthians 9:16). Paul felt driven to
announce the gospel to as many people as possible, “to
save at least some” (9:22).
This good news is the mystery of the life, death, and
resurrection of Jesus Christ, who lifted Simon Peter’s
mother-in-law from her sickbed with a mere touch of his
hand. “The whole town was gathered at the door. He
cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he
drove out many demons” (Mark 1:33–34)). Our woes and
demons are as real as Job’s, and Jesus is our savior.

TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading - Job spoke, saying: I have been assigned
months of misery, and troubled nights have been allotted
to me (Job 7:1-4, 6-7).
Psalm - Praise the Lord, who heals the brokenhearted
(Psalm 147).
Second Reading - I have become all things to all, to save
at least some (1 Corinthians 9:16-19, 22-23).
Gospel - Jesus cured many who were sick with various
diseases (Mark 1:29-39).
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The story of Job seems at first hearing to be an extension of
February’s gloom into the liturgy. The monumental suffering of
a good man is so horrific that the laments of the front page of
modern newspapers barely measure up. The whole story is not
long to tell, but its resolution is of great comfort. We can trace
in its plot the stirrings of a belief in an afterlife, and in God’s
great power to right every wrong and raise human beings from
suffering.
In the Gospel, we see the fulfillment of these longings in the
hand of Jesus, grasping an ill woman by the hand and raising
her up to vibrant life. Peter’s mother-in-law becomes her best
self, attentive to her guests, providing hospitality, the warmth of
her laughter, the delights of her kitchen. Last week, at
Candlemas, candles were blessed, including baptismal candles
for some not yet born. Today is a day to check the fragile flame
of your own baptismal candle. Against February’s customary
lethargy, its background whines and ailments, the liturgy
summons us to life, grasps us by the hand, and sends us to serve
in Christ’s name.

5 NIEDZIELA OKRESU ZWYKŁEGO
Czyż nie do bojowania podobny byt człowieka?

Zyskałem miesiące męczarni, przeznaczono mi noce

Hi 7,1-4.6-7
Jezus po wyjściu z synagogi przyszedł z Jakubem
i Janem do domu Szymona i Andrzeja. Teściowa zaś
Szymona leżała w gorączce. Zaraz powiedzieli Mu o
niej. On podszedł do niej i podniósł ją ująwszy za
rękę, tak iż gorączka ją opuściła. A ona im
usługiwała. Z nastaniem wieczora, gdy słońce zaszło,
przynosili do Niego wszystkich chorych i opętanych;
i całe miasto było zebrane u drzwi. Uzdrowił wielu
dotkniętych rozmaitymi chorobami i wiele złych
duchów wyrzucił, lecz nie pozwalał złym duchom
mówić, ponieważ wiedziały, kim On jest. Nad
ranem, gdy jeszcze było ciemno, wstał, wyszedł i
udał się na miejsce pustynne, i tam się modlił.
Pośpieszył za Nim Szymon z towarzyszami, a gdy
Go znaleźli, powiedzieli Mu: Wszyscy Cię szukają.
Lecz On rzekł do nich: Pójdźmy gdzie indziej, do
sąsiednich miejscowości, abym i tam mógł nauczać,
bo na to wyszedłem. I chodził po całej Galilei,
nauczając w ich synagogach i wyrzucając złe duchy.

REFLEKSJA NA TEMAT CZYTAŃ NIEDIZELNYCH...
Świat naznaczony jest chorobami, wypadkami,
tragicznymi splotami wydarzeń. Nawet wiara nie
zdoła uchronić nas przed doświadczeniem
poważnych kryzysów. Jednak nam, którzyśmy
usłyszeli Dobrą Nowinę i przyjęli jej moc, dane jest
światło nadziei płynącej ze zmartwychwstania
Chrystusa. To światło jest wszystkim niezbędne do
życia, dlatego świadomi rozmiarów ludzkiego bólu
i rozpaczy, jako chrześcijanie stawajmy się
szafarzami nadziei, która podnosi i leczy złamanych
na duchu.

ADORACION AL SANTISIMO:
LAS BUENAS NOTICIAS
Las lecturas de hoy comienzan con unos versos del
libro de Job. En primer lugar, Job se queja de que sus
noches se alargan indefinidamente. Y luego, aún peor,
“Mis días corren más aprisa que una lanzadera y se
consumen sin esperanza” (Job 7:6). No son precisamente
alentadoras estas lamentaciones, no cuando se examinan
por separado.
La mayoría de nosotros ha estado allí, sin embargo, y el
antídoto es la “buena noticia” que Pablo encontró tan
convincente que sentía que predicarla “era su obligación.
¡Ay de mí, si no anuncio el Evangelio!” (1 Corintios 9:16).
Pablo se sentía impulsado a anunciar el Evangelio a tantos
como fuera posible, “para ganarlos a todos” (9:22).
Esta buena noticia era que el misterio de la vida,
muerte y Resurrección de Jesucristo, que levantó a la
suegra de Simón Pedro de su lecho de enferma con un
simple toque de su mano. “Todo el pueblo se apiñó junto
a la puerta. Curó a muchos enfermos de diversos males y
expulsó a muchos demonios” (Marcos 1:33–34). Nuestros
males y demonios son tan reales como los de Job, y Jesús
es nuestro salvador.
