when you return the holder.
YEAR OF MERCY
Pope Francis has designated this jubilee year as the
"Year of Mercy". Pope Francis believes that the Lord's most
powerful message to us is one of mercy and mercy has become the theme of his papacy. In an effort to reflect on what
mercy means to us, especially during this Lenten season,
please join us for a presentation, discussion and prayer on
this theme. We will meet in the rectory on Tuesday, March
15th, at 10:00AM and Wednesday, March 16th, at 7:30PM.
You may choose either the morning or evening session.

STRAIGHT LINES
SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES
“God writes straight with crooked lines,” the saying
goes. The power of Paul’s testimony that everything is
junk but knowledge of Jesus and the power of his
resurrection is a straight enough message. And, God
knows, Paul had a crooked journey before his blinding
insight straight from God.
Through Isaiah, God reminds us all that the past great
works were as nothing compared to the new creation.
“Can’t you see it?” we are asked, as if we are still
wandering along our crooked lines.
And there is no straighter line than that between the
woman whose misery is intense and the God whose
mercy in Jesus is deeper and more acute. You just can’t
beat this kind of good news.

TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading - The LORD does something new for the
chosen people (Isaiah 43:16-21) or Ezekiel 37:12-14.
Psalm - The Lord has done great things for us; we are
filled with joy (Psalm 126) or Psalm 130.
Second Reading - The supreme good is knowing Jesus as
Lord (Philippians 3:8-14) or Romans 8:8-11.
Gospel - A woman caught in the act of adultery is
brought to Jesus. He challenges anyone without sin to
throw the first stone (John 8:1-11) or John 11:1-45 [3-7,
17, 20-27, 33b-45].
INSPIRED SCRIPTURE
The study of inspired scripture is the chief way of
finding our duty.
-St. Basil the Great
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION I
Next weekend, many churches provide palms to be
carried in the opening moments of the liturgy, as we
gratefully recall Jesus’ entry into the holy city of
Jerusalem. The children who greeted him on that day used
what was both handy and traditional, since palms were
carried to inaugurate the joyful harvest feast of Succoth.
To this day, faithful Jews are directed to take a beautiful
palm branch, green and straight as possible, called a lulav,
and bind it with three myrtle branches fifteen inches long,
and two longer willow branches. At the end of the temple
service, everyone carries the lulav, circling the sanctuary
in a dance called the Hoshanot, singing hymns of joy.
In other climates, Jews and Christians alike have had
to make accommodations over the years. In Italy,
everyone carries olive branches today, often brought from
their own garden. In England, forsythia branches are
preferred, a relative of the olive, sign of peace. Germans
prefer puss willows, and others look for flowering spring
branches. In our part of the world, what do you think
would be the best choice to express joy and welcome, and
to remind us of the joy of Christ’s victory even as we
prepare to commemorate his passion?

The flower does not bear the root, but the root the

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION II
Three years ago, as we made the shift in the
Eucharistic Prayer from “Benedict” to “Francis,” we
named a “treasure” in our tradition. From apostolic times,
the Church has sent disciples on mission with a mandate
to proclaim the gospel. Paul and Barnabas and Timothy
come to mind as men invested with responsibility for
community and mission. First we see bishops,
“overseers,” good men appointed by the acclaim of their
people, the center of leadership, of prayer, of word and
sacrament. Their territories were small initially, small
enough to get everyone into one room and for the bishop
to know everyone’s name.
In time, men were appointed to function as a council
of advisers, “elders,” or presbyters. That isn’t a comment
on chronological age, rather it indicates the maturity of
their wisdom and faith. Before long, and only when the
bishop was absent, some of these men “stood in” for him
to do what bishops usually did: preaching, presiding at
Eucharist. The deacons had a strong and visible role in
liturgy and service, especially in the care of the poor, but
were gradually overshadowed by the new importance of
the presbyter. As the Roman Empire first tottered and
then collapsed completely by 476, bishops increasingly
became civil servants to maintain order and dispense
justice. Conferences and duties summoned bishops away
from their home posts, and presbyters were entrusted with
the sacramental and preaching duties, even though at one
time runners were sent out from the bishop’s Mass to
bring fragments of the host to drop into chalices as a sign
of the church’s unity around its bishop.

GOŻKIE ŻALE
13:30 W NIEDZIELE POD KONIEC MSZY ŚW.
FAKTY Z TRADYCJI WIELKIEGO POSTU...
- Kto zapocząkował nabożeństwo Drogi Krzyżowej?
Świętemu Franciszkowi z Asyżu (13 wiek) przypisuje się
nie tradycję Drogi Krzyżwej w lokalnych kościołach.
- Ile jest stacji Drogi Krzyżowej?
Zwykle Stacji jest 14-cie (ostatnia stacja: złożenie ciała
Chrystusa do grobu), lecz w ostatnich latach niektόrzy
autorzy dodają 15-ą stację: zmartwychwstanie Chrystusa.
5 NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU
do pełnego powstania z martwych. (…) Flp 3,8-14
Cały lud schodził się do Niego, a On
usiadłszy nauczał ich. Wówczas uczeni w Piśmie i
faryzeusze przyprowadzili do Niego kobietę którą
pochwycono na cudzołóstwie, a postawiwszy ją pośrodku,
powiedzieli do Niego: Nauczycielu, tę kobietę dopiero
pochwycono na cudzołóstwie. W Prawie Mojżesz nakazał
nam takie kamienować. A Ty co mówisz? Mówili to
wystawiając Go na próbę, aby mieli o co Go oskarżyć.
A kiedy
w dalszym ciągu Go pytali, podniósł się i rzekł do nich:
Kiedy
Nikt
cię nie potępił? A ona odrzekła: Nikt, Panie! Rzekł do niej
Jezus: I Ja ciebie nie potępiam. - Idź, a od tej chwili już
nie grzesz. Jan 8,1-11
REFLEKSJA NA TEMAT CZYTAŃ NIEDZIELNYCH...
Jesteśmy
pochwyceni
w
Wielkim
Poście.
Najpierw „na grzechu”, jak kobieta z dzisiejszej
Ewangelii. Doświadczam z przerażeniem jego skutków:
strachu, upokorzenia, odrzucenia przez ludzi, obrzydzenia
wobec siebie.

existencia cristiana y humana: somos personas
