Stewardship Note: “For you do not know on which day our
Lord will come.” Preparations for the Christmas season remind
us how much we all want to be generous. We all want to give
good gifts to one another. Yet, often when it comes to giving
back to God our response is, “Not yet!” We put off sharing our
time, talent and treasure for another day. We say we will give
when we have more time or more money. Yet, none of us
knows when God will come and ask for an accounting of how
we used the gifts entrusted to our care. The start of Advent
reminds us not to put off our stewardship. The Lord is coming!
FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT December 1, 2013
“You… must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the
son of Man will come.”
~ Matthew 24:44
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Today marks the beginning of another liturgical year. The tone of today’s readings casts us
in the role of students learning solemn lessons.
The reading from Isaiah sets the stage, calling
us up a mountain to receive the Lord’s instruction. In this passage we study peace.
Then Paul steps forth with sober admonitions. We have to
wake up; the day is almost here. Live honorably in the light.
Paul reminds us that we really do know the time in which we
are living.
Finally, Mathew presents Jesus the storyteller. Just imagine,
Jesus tells us, what it was like in Noah’s time. He paints a vivid
picture of ordinary people living ordinary lives and ignoring
the warnings that Noah heeded. Totally unconcerned, they
were destroyed. How will it be any different for us? No one
knows when the Lord will come. But we have been warned.
Perhaps we find such sobering scriptures unappealing and
threatening. But within them there is promise. We are to live in
the light with nothing to hide. We are to be ready.
This week’s second collection is for Diocesan Obligations.
Next week’s second collection is for Higher Utility
& Energy Costs.
DIVINE MERCY DEVOTIONS
This Sunday December 1st at 3:00pm devotions to the Divine
Mercy will be prayed. We kindly ask you to come and pray for
needed graces in your life or that of your loved ones. It was
revealed to St. Faustina that: “At three o’clock implore my
mercy especially for sinners; and, if only for a brief moment,
immerse yourself in My Passion, particularly in My abandonment at the moment of agony. This hour of great mercy for the
whole world...In this hour I will refuse nothing to the soul that
makes request of Me in virtue of My Passion.
NOVENA AND DEVOTIONS TO ST. JOSEPH
Great saints have assured us that St. Joseph can assist us in
needs of every kind, Nevertheless, he is particularly known for
help in family problems, financials needs, protection of purity,
defense against dangers, matters involving work or housing and
as Patron of Happy Death. If you feel the need of obtaining
great favors from God through St. Joseph's powerful intercession, please join us on Wednesday, December 4th at 7:00 for
the Novena and Devotion to St. Joseph. Eucharistic Ministers
will carry our patron’s statue from the Chapel of Our Lady of
Czestochowa to the Sanctuary.
We are grateful for the graces requested and offerings you
submit in the petition box. As you probably noticed the 7:00pm
Mass on Wednesday is offered for all the intentions you write
on the available form.
Page 3
FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH - will be observed on
December 6th. The Mass at 7:00am will be offered for the Living Members of the Sacred Heart Society. Parishioners and
members of the Society are invited to attend and recite the usual
prayers with the Litany to Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Scheduled adorers are asked to participate at their appointed
time during the day and adoration will conclude at 3:00pm by
praying the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy and Benediction.
Mass in the Polish language will be celebrated at 7:00pm.
ADVENT CONFESSIONS
For all of us to receive the spiritual benefits of the sacred day
of Christmas, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is essential, even
for those who may not have serious sins. On Monday, December 16th at 6:00pm we will hold a Reconciliation evening for all
parishioners including all the youngsters who participate in our
Religious Education Program. Visiting clergy will assist us for
your convenience. We ask parents and grandparents to encourage family members to take advantage of the opportunity to
receive forgiveness for sins through God’s goodness and mercy.
FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
As the Feast of the Immaculate Conception falls of Sunday,
December 8th, we will observe this Holy Day on Monday, December 9th. Although it is not a day of obligation we should
participate in Mass. The schedule will be listed in next week’s
bulletin.

DECEMBER BIRTHDAYS
Happy Birthday! - to our parishioners who are celebrating
their birthdays this month:
Antoinette Bembenek, Harriet
Bomba, Genevieve Kozlowski, Edward Mrzyglod, Peter Omilnowicz, and Marion Ushinski. We wish you all much pleasure
and joy in this season of expectation and the birthday of Jesus.
SCHOOL NOTES
Christmas Pageant rehearsals are under way. Our students
are practicing diligently for their performance on Sun., Dec.
15th at Bartlett High School auditorium at 2:00pm. They look
forward to offering you an afternoon of enjoyment and
“showing off” their many talents. Tickets at $5 per person are
available at the school. Please join us in appreciation to our
students for their outstanding entrepreneurship.
OPŁATKI - CHRISTMAS WAFERS
The Christmas wafers were first associated with the Nativity
scenery and constitute an essential element of the family
Christmas vigil supper. This custom is celebrated by millions of
people and is continually growing because it symbolizes the
Blessed Sacrament and Jesus who was born in Bethlehem.
Oplatki are available in the sacristy at $3.00 per packet.
ANGEL GIVING TREE
The Angel Giving Tree in the sanctuary and at the front entrance of the Basilica gives us the opportunity to exercise our
Christmas spirit in the Advent Season. We ask you to take an
“angel” and make it part of your Christmas giving. By providing assistance to children and elderly you are becoming an angel of wisdom, education and charity to brighten the season of
Christmas for those in need. There is a great need for tuition
assistance for families who want their children to attend St.
Joseph School but are having a difficult time meeting expenses
in these economic times.
Please place the angel on your gift and place it under the tree
in the sanctuary before December 15th to allow time for distribution. If you prefer to donate a monetary gift, please bring it
to the sacristy or to the rectory.
Your gifts will put smiles on the faces of the needy, especially the children.

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
PIERWSZA NIEDZIELA ADWENTU
1 grudnia 2013
"Dlatego i wy bądźcie gotowi, bo w chwili, której się nie domyślacie,
Syn Człowieczy przyjdzie." (Mt 24, 44)
Czy jesteśmy gotowi stanąć przed obliczem
Chrystusa? Stawiając to ważne pytanie, liturgia
pierwszej niedzieli Adwentu wzywa nas do
czuwania, do odrzucania uczynków ciemności,
i karę, lecz radość, pokój i spełnienie wszystkich naszych
Narodzenie.

NOWENNA I NABOŻEŃSTWO DO ŚW.
on szczególnie znany jako pomocnik w problemach
rodzinnych, finansowych, zmaganiach z zachowaniem
Do pomocy zostali
zaproszeni księża z sąsiednich parafii. Prosimy rodziców i
dziadków, aby zachęcili członków rodziny, do skorzystać z tej
okazji, aby otrzymać przebaczenie grzechów dzięki dobroci i
miłosierdzia Bożego.
ŚWIĘTO NIEPOKALANEGO POCZĘCIA NMP

OPŁATKI
Bożonarodzeniowe opłatki są bardzo silnie związane z
tradycją Bożego Narodzenia i stanowią istotny element
rodzinnej Wigilii. Zwyczaj ten obchodzony jest przez miliony
ludzi i ich liczba stale rośnie. Jest to ważny symbol ponieważ
nawiązuje do Najświętszego Sakramentu, Jezus, który narodził
się w Betlejem. Opłatki są dostępne w zakrystii.
ANGEL GIVING TREE
możliwość lepszego odczucia ducha Bożego Narodzenia i
Adwentu poprzez odpowiedz na prośbę potrzebującego
człowieka. Poprzez udzielanie pomocy dzieciom i starszym
Prezenty będą zbierane do 15 grudnia. Zapakowany prezent,
twarzach i radość w sercach potrzebujących, zwłaszcza dzieci.
Bóg Zapłać!
FUNDUSZ EMERYTALNY DLA OSÓB ZAKONNYCH
W diecezji Worcester w dniach 7 i 8 grudnia w odbędzie się
zbiórka na wsparcie funduszu emerytalnego dla osób
zakonnych, z którego korzysta obecnie 34.000 starszych sióstr,
braci i księży z różnych zakonów.
drugiej kolekty w dniach 14 i 15 grudnia. Ofiarę można złożyć
w specjalnej kopercie znajdującej się w rodzinnych pakietach.

poniedziałek. Najbliższe spotkanie 2 grudnia.
