THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
January 6, 2013
Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come, the glory
of the Lord shines upon you. - Isaiah 60:1
EPIPHANY
The splendid magi, all sparkle and dash
and solemnity, march right up off the pages
of Matthew’s Gospel and into our churches
today. Matthew alone tells us this grand and
seductive story so that we might see the light
and know that the child these magi visited is
the fulfillment of prophecy, the king of the
world that stretches to the magi’s home country and beyond,
right down the ages to us.
We too see and understand anew. Like the magi, our patron
saint for this day, we see in the newborn child the king of the
universe and light of the world. Like the magi, we find in ourselves a new faith and a new life. Like them, we return to our
home by a new route.
We are asked to come away from this festive season ourselves renewed and awake to the presence of God among us.
We are asked to find God where God is to be found, to be attentive and surprised and ready to bow down in adoration and
to offer our gifts.
Today we celebrate the traditional Three Kings or using liturgical language the Epiphany. It means the manifestation of
the presence of Jesus Christ in the world to all nations.
This week’s second collection is the Diocesan Obligations.
Next weekend’s second collection is designated for The
Catholic University of America.
Blessed chalk and incense is located near the crèche to allow
you to follow the tradition of writing over the doorway of your
home the following: 20+C+M+B+13 as a sign of God’s blessing for the new Year.
NATIONAL MIGRATION WEEK
On Sunday, January 6th, at the 9:30am liturgy, we will observe National Migration Week. This special celebration was
established by the United States Conference of Bishops to reflect on the values, faith and Christian culture brought to this
country by millions of immigrants. In fact, the Roman Catholic
Church in the United States is the Church of Immigrants.
Our school children bearing their country’s flag and wearing
their national costumes will participate in the liturgy. After
Mass all are invited to the school cafeteria for a hospitality
hour.
NOVENA TO THE DIVINE MERCY
Today is the first Sunday of the month for special devotions
to the Divine Mercy. This afternoon at 3:00pm we will sing the
chaplet to the Divine Mercy, spend some time in meditation and
conclude the service with benediction.

NEW YEAR MESSAGE
We welcome the Year 2013 with anticipation and certain
anxiety. Every New Year brings new challenges and new visions. The “Year of Faith” presents a great opportunity to reevaluate our pastoral effectiveness, evangelization outreach and
renewal in the life of prayer. The year 2013 will bring many
challenges to us as a parish. We look forward to the construction of our School Gymnasium, upgrading the security system
for the safety of our school children, securing funds to add a
cafeteria and/parish hall, etc. The New Year will define us as
a community of faith.
May our common effort, united vision and harmonious cooperation determine the future of our parish family.
SYMBOLISM
Human life seems at times to be simple yet it is full of mystery and suspense. There is more to interpersonal family relationships than meets the eye, more to the reality than we can see
through our eyes. The question is how can we think about what
transcends not only words but the reach of the mind. Man’s
inherent characteristic capacities to do these things finds expression through special relations to symbols. These symbols
were proven through the centuries as an indispensible form of
communication not only between people but especially in our
relationship to God. Without these sacred symbols man would
be radically less than human. We are quite aware that man sets
aside certain words, activities, places and designates them to the
higher use and become symbols of the invisible and transcendent, e.g., the shrines designated as a sacred space. The person
passes through its gates to enter this sacred space and leaves
through another door as a renewed person. There are certain
days set apart like a Sunday which represents inviolate splendor
of transcendence. Another symbolism is writing the names of
the Three Kings on the door of our home, keeping mementos of
holy pictures in our homes, etc. The question is not only their
doctrinal value and scriptural meaning, but what they do to a
man. In other words what a person becomes within it or without it. Symbols have a special capacity to influence practices,
values and form a pattern of behavior. Nothing has more power
to turn a society into a community so effectively as religious
faith, liturgy which becomes a more powerful means of social
cohesion.
A Catholic School with all its religious symbolism, liturgy,
customs, traditions based on centuries old wisdom has an enormous potential of shaping the mentality of the young generation. Without the family ritual, catholic school activities, confessions, annual celebrations children are transformed internally
and their relationship to God and one another is more fulfilling
and rewarding. It is worth to reflect who shapes the mentality
of your child’s future!
WORDS OF GRATITUDE
Father Gregory and I would like to express our gratitude for
all your prayers and gifts extended to us through the Christmas
Season. Needless to say your generosity and benevolence is a
sign of your appreciation of our pastoral leadership.
It is our common prayer throughout the year, but especially

National Vocation Awareness Week –Jan. 1319. The annual event earmarks a time for parishes to
consider their role in promoting the role of priests,
deacons and religious order brothers and sisters to
Catholics deciding on their future. This is especially
important in this Year of Faith and as the Church
continues to focus on the New Evangelization.
Vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life are essential in the Church’s mission of
spreading the joy and love of Jesus Christ. Our
world and culture needs the Good News of Christ
more than ever.

„Powstań! Świeć, bo przyszło twe światło i chwała Pańska rozbłyska nad tobą.” (Iz 60, 1)
OBJAWIENIE
Dzisiejsza uroczystość to jakby drugi filar, na którym opiera się okres Narodzenia Pańskiego.
Jezus po to się narodził, aby zostać objawiony całemu światu jako Zbawiciel. Pokłon Mędrców
ze Wschodu, którzy są reprezentantami narodów pogańskich, to znak powszechności powołania
do zbawienia. W czasie swojej publicznej działalności Jezus ograniczy się do „owiec, które
poginęły z domu Izraela”, jednakże przed swoim wniebowstąpieniem nakaże uczniom, aby byli
Jego świadkami aż po krańce ziemi. Pokłon Mędrców to zapowiedź głoszenia Ewangelii
wszystkim narodom.
Przypominamy o tradycji oznaczania drzwi symbolami imion Trzech Króli (20+K+M+B+13 lub
K+M+B+2013). Poświęcona kreda jest dostępna przy żłóbku.
KORONKA DO MIŁOSIERDZIA BOŻEGO
Dzisiejszej niedzieli gromadzimy się na wspólnej modlitwie Koronką do Miłosierdzia Bożego. Jest to
godzina modlitwy o potrzebne łaski dla nas i dla naszych bliskich. Jezus powiedział siostrze Faustynie: "... o
godzinie trzeciej proś o moje miłosierdzie. To jest godzina wielkiego miłosierdzia dal całego świata. ... W tej
godzinie niczego nie odmówię duszy, która prosić mnie będzie rozważając moją mękę.”
Dzisiejsza druga kolekta jest przeznaczona na Zobowiązania Diecezjalne.

SYMBOLE
Życie ludzkie czasem wydaje się być proste, ale w
rzeczywistości jest pełne tajemnic i napięć. Pełne jest
relacji międzyosobowych, a to co postrzegamy
zmysłami jest dalekie od rzeczywistości. Pojawia się
zatem pytanie: jak możemy myśleć o tym, co
przewyższa nie tylko słowa, ale jest też i niedostępne
dla umysłu. Z pomocą przychodzi ludzka zdolność do
wyrażania myśli i opisywania ich poprzez specjalną
relację do symboli. Symbole funkcjonują przez wieki
jako niezbędna forma komunikacji nie tylko pomiędzy
ludźmi, ale przede wszystkim pomiędzy ludźmi i
Bogiem. Bez nich człowiek byłby w swojej istocie
zdecydowanie mniej ludzki. Jesteśmy w pełni
świadomi, że człowiek wybiera niektóre słowa,
czynności, miejsca i przeznacza je do szczególnego
użytku i stają się symbolami tego co niewidzialne i
transcendentne, przykładem tego są sanktuaria
postrzegane jako miejsca święte. Człowiek przechodzi
przez bramę, aby wejść w to święte miejsce i
wychodzi przez kolejne drzwi jako zupełnie
odmieniony. Istnieją szczególne dni, takie jak
niedziela, które reprezentują niezachwiany splendor
transcendencji Boga. Innym symbolem, bardzo
bliskim w obecnym czasie, jest symbol Trzech Króli
wypisany na naszych drzwiach, lub też święte obrazy
zawieszone na ścianach domów. Ich znaczenie nie jest
jedynie doktrynalne czy teologiczne, ale ważne jest
również jak swoją obecnością kształtują człowieka.
Innymi słowy mówiąc, symbole mają szczególny
wpływ na wartości, sposób postepowania i
zachowanie. Takim bardzo silnym czynnikiem,
będącym w stanie kształtować społeczeństwa, jest
religia z jej pełną symboli liturgią. Również szkoła
katolicka wraz z całym bagażem symboli religijnych,
nabożeństw i tradycji bazujących na wielowiekowej
mądrości, ma ogromny potencjał w kształtowaniu
mentalności młodego pokolenia. Dzięki rodzinnym
tradycjom, aktywności katolickiej szkoły, spowiedzi,
dorocznym celebracjom dzieci kształtują się
wewnętrznie, a ich relacja do Boga i innych osób, jest
pełniejsza i bardziej owocna. A zatem warto
zastanawiać się, co i kto kształtuje przyszłość naszych
dzieci.
KSIĘGA JUBILEUSZOWA
Dziękujemy wszystkim, którzy złożyli zamówienia
na Księgę Jubileuszową. Ciągle jeszcze można
składać nowe zamówienia. Odpowiednie formularze
znajdują się przy wejściach do Bazyliki.
SŁOWO WDZIĘCZNOŚCI
Razem z Księdzem Grzegorzem pragniemy
wyrazić ogromną wdzięczność za wszystkie
modlitwy, życzenia i prezenty, które otrzymaliśmy w
okresie świątecznym. Wszystkim dobroczyńcom
składamy serdeczne Bóg zapłać i obiecujemy
modlitewną pamięć.
NATIONA MIGRATION WEEK
W niedzielę, 6 stycznia, na Mszy św. o godz. 9:30
będziemy obchodzili Narodowy Dzień Migracji. To
specjalne święto było ustanowione przez
Konferencję Biskupów, aby przeprowadzać refleksje
nad wartościami i kulturą chrześcijańską
przyniesioną do tego kraju przez niezliczone rzesze
imigrantów, gdyż w rzeczywistości Kościół
Katolicki w Stanach Zjednoczonych jest w dużej
mierze Kościołem Imigrantów.
Dzieci z naszej szkoły przyniosą w procesji flagi
narodowe, a po Mszy św. wszyscy uczestnicy liturgii
są zaproszeni na poczęstunek do szkolnej kafeterii.
PRZESŁANIE NOWOROCZNE
W ubiegłym tygodniu przywitaliśmy Nowy 2013
Rok, który wnosi w nasze życie zarówno nowe
nadzieje jak również i niepokoje, gdyż każdy kolejny
rok przynosi nowe wyzwania i wizje. Przeżywany
jednocześnie Rok Wiary stwarza dobrą okazje do
oceny
efektywności
funkcjonowania
naszej
wspólnoty parafialnej, rozszerzenia ewangelizacji i
pogłębienia życia modlitewnego. Spodziewamy się
również rozpocząć długo oczekiwane prace
budowlane sali gimnastycznej. Wyzwanie na ten rok
będzie
również
unowocześnienie
systemu
bezpieczeństwa w naszej szkole. Czeka nas ponadto
wiele innych prac i zadań, które będą dla nas
wyzwaniem do wspólnotowego i zorganizowanego
działania.
RELIGIA
Zajęcia katechetyczne po przerwie świątecznej
zostaną wznowione 7 stycznia, jak zwykle o godz.
17:30.
Bierzmowanie. W nowym roku, zgodnie z
ustalonym harmonogramem, spotkania formacyjne
będą odbywały się w 2 i 4 niedzielę miesiąca.
Najbliższe spotkanie 13 stycznia o godz. 8:30.
