THE BARRIERS THAT SEPARATE US
We live in a society that has many technological avenues for stimulation and entertainment,
one in which the urban population exceeds the
non-urban. It is curious that loneliness is a
prevalent malady. It is easy to reach out and
touch someone, we are told. But—in truth—it is
not all that easy, and statistics from the mental
health field will reinforce that opinion. Today’s readings are
about the ways in which we can authentically reach out: God
touches Adam to create a mate and end his solitude; God-inJesus takes on human flesh and death in order that we might
come to glory; Jesus reaches out to the children whom the disciples had tried to keep away, showing us the manner in which
we must approach the loving embrace that awaits us in heaven.
Until that day, however, we must remember that ours is a sacramental church, a church of signs of love of God. And so we
are called to reach out continually to ease the loneliness and the
barriers that separate us from one another and, therefore, from
the love of Christ.
The second collection this week is for Diocesan Obligations.
Next weekend’s second collection will be designated for
Utilities and Energy.
JUBILEE YEAR
This weekend we welcome His Excellency Robert J.
McManus Ordinary of Worcester as the Main Celebrant of the
Jubilee Liturgy on Saturday, Oct. 6th at 3:30pm. Also in our
midst are Archbishop Zygmunt Zimowski, President of the
Council for the Pastoral Assistance to Health Care, of the Vatican, homilist in Polish, Rev. Msgr. James Moroney homilist in
English, Bishop Daniel Reilly and Bishop George Rueger and
several priests from the region. On this unique day, Pope Benedict XVI granted us the privilege of plenary indulgence for our
Jubilee Celebration. The Basilica belongs to the Pope and we
are grateful for this honor. You may take advantage of this
opportunity and offer an indulgence for a person living or deceased by fulfilling the prescribed obligation which is confession (if needed), reception of the Eucharist, a visit to the Basilica and a prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father. Plenary
indulgence can be obtained once a day and partial indulgence as
many times as you visit the Basilica and fulfill the above obligations.
This day will standout as a highlight in history of this parish
and the people who participate will carry a lasting memory
which they will share with others. Although the actual celebration is limited to one day, the experience of it will serve as an
inspiration in the future development of the St. Joseph Basilica
family.
Columbus Day this year is observed on Monday, October 8th.
As a national holiday, the rectory offices will be closed.

OCTOBER ROSARY DEVOTIONS
Devotion Schedule: Sunday, following 11:00am Mass; Monday-Friday at 6:30pm—(bi-lingual).
DIVINE MERCY NOVENA
This Sunday, October 7th, we will pray the chaplet to the
Divine Mercy at 3:00pm. It is an hour of prayer for needed
graces in our life or that of our loved ones. It was revealed to
Sr. Faustina that “….at three o’clock implore my mercy. . .
.This is the hour of great mercy for the whole world. . . .In this
hour I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me
in virtue of My Passion.
CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION
On Saturday, October 13th, we will pray the rosary in an
outdoor procession concluding the six-month devotion in honor
of Our Lady of Fatima and the Miracle of the Sun in 1917. We
kindly request parish members, organizations and especially the
Children of Mary to pray to Our Lady for needed graces.
Flowers in front of the Blessed Mother altar in honor of Our
Lady of Fatima on October 13th are given in memory of Raymond Noga by his daughter, Sheri Bergeron.
YEAR OF FAITH
Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI has announced that the
Universal Church will celebrate The Year of Faith, beginning
on October 11, 2012 and ending on the Solemnity of Our Lord
Jesus Christ, Universal King on November 24. 2013.
This year-long celebration begins on the day which observes
the fiftieth anniversary of the Opening of the Second Vatican
Council and the twentieth anniversary of the publication of The
Catechism of the Catholic Church. These two historic events
were and continue to be momentous gifts to the life of the
Church in the twentieth century.
Our Diocesan observance of the opening of the Year of Faith
will take place with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist in the
Cathedral of St. Paul at 7:00pm on Friday, October 12th. Several people from our parish will participate in the opening service on Friday.
The St. Joseph Basilica Year of Faith celebration schedule
will be forthcoming.
ELECTION DAY
We are one month away from the most important day for our
country when we will select national, state and local leaders
who will represent us in governing our country. This election
will determine if we go forward to prosperity, liberty of conscience and freedom of religion guaranteed by the Second
Amendment. Therefore, our vote has to be well-thought, reflective and we have to make an intelligent and wise decision
for our future. We are voting for what is important for our
country not for one party or the other. We are Americans first,
then Democrats or Republicans. Not only our economy, but the
moral fabric of our country is in disarray and we are more and
more accustomed to abnormalities and deviations and accepting them as a normal lifestyle. The “Catholic Vote” can determine this election. It is the duty of the laity to participate actively in our country’s political life.
MEMORIAL ORGAN CONCERT
The recent Memorial Organ Concert held on Sept. 23rd and
organized under the auspices of the Holy Rosary Sodality was a
welcome high quality artistic presentation. Many parishioners
and friends enjoyed this melodic recital. The artists executed
the beauty of the musical selections and the pipe organ resounded its splendid capabilities. We were fortunate to have in
our presence the craftsman who constructed this pipe organ
which will serve us and be enjoyed for generations. The profit
of $1250 which is the “magic” number of our anniversary was
donated to our Basilica. The Holy Rosary Sodality invited all
participants and attendees to the school cafeteria for a light buffet of delicious food with home made pastries for a Sunday
afternoon of camaraderie and joy. We are grateful to Mr. Roland Malboeuf, for arranging this program. Thank You to all
who helped to make this concert a successful event.
WORK UPDATE
I am pleased to inform you that the Basilica sign has been
installed on the front lawn of the church. It was built over the
granite monument that was erected for our 100th anniversary.
The sign contains current information for parishioners and visitors. Later on we will etch all the names of the pastors on the
back of the sign. We are most grateful to our parish organizations who funded this long needed marker.
Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel-renovation has been
completed. Besides normal maintenance upgrade, the most important work is the new frame of the Icon and the chandelier
which adds to the décor of this site. We want to acknowledge
the skillfull and dedicated work of our craftsman, Mr. Wieslaw
Pieniazek who in a short period of time completed this work.
May Our Lady of Czestochowa serve our parishioners who seek
God’s graces through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother.
Fall Catholic School Appeal-On behalf of our students of St.
Joseph School. Thank You to all of our parishioners for their
support of the Fall Catholic School Appeal. So far we have
collected $2,364.50.
Also congratulations to Sister Valenta Akalski for being
honored by gracing the front cover of this year’s School Appeal
brochure with our students. We are all proud to have Sr.
Valenta as a member of our faculty. May God Bless You and
all the Felician Sisters.

ST. JOSEPH POLISH WOMEN’S CLUB
The October monthly meeting will be held Oct. 9th at 7:00pm

take place followed by a musical presentation by a select group
of Shepherd Hill Choir members under the direction of Connie

Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Mass will take place on
Sun., Oct. 14 at 3:00pm at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Worcester.
This special liturgy will honor couples who are marking
significant anniversaries this year, as we pray in thanksgiving to
God for their many years of faithful witness to the sacredness of
Christian marriage.

Annual White Mass-to pray for all involved in Healthcare to
be held on October 18 at 7:00pm at the Cathedral of St.
Paul, Chatham and High Streets, Worcester. Following the
Mass, Dr. Ira Byock will present a keynote address on options
available to care compassionately for the dying without resorting to assisted suicide. All are welcome.
Year of Faith 2012—Youth Kick Off– will take place on
Fri., Oct. 19 from 7:00-10:00pm at St. Rose of Lima Church,
Northborough, MA with Jon Niven and Lift Ministries of the
Archdiocese of Boston. The event includes praise & worship
music, an inspiring talk and Eucharistic Adoration. This is a

OFFICE OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Religious Education Classes will not be held on Monday,
Oct. 8th because of the Columbus Day Holiday. Classes will
resume on Mon., Oct. 15th at 5:30-6:30pm in the school.
We need volunteers to promote a successful program. If
you are interested in joining our team, please contact the rectory. Training will be provided.
Confirmation Class-will meet on the second and fourth
Sundays of the month. The next meeting will be held on Sun.,
Oct. 14th in the school at 8:30am and followed by participation
in the Liturgy at 9:30am.

Nie jest dobrze ze światem, w którym wszystko
jest na chwilę, na niby, na próbę, dopóki nam się
nie znudzi. „Nie jest dobrze, żeby mężczyzna był
sam” – powiedział Bóg i dał Adamowi pomoc w
osobie Ewy. Ewa to odpowiedź na samotność
mężczyzny, to matka jego dzieci. Razem budują
nowy, wspólny świat. Człowiek przestaje być
samotny dopiero wtedy, gdy odnajduje w sobie wiarę w
niezawodną Obecność. W małżeństwie jest ona zobowiązaniem
nie na chwilę, nie na niby, nie na próbę, ale na zawsze, nawet

COLUMBUS DAY
Columbus Day jest świętem państwowym, upamiętniającym
dzień przybycia Krzysztofa Kolumba do Ameryki. W tym roku
święto to przypada w poniedziałek 8 października. W związku
z tym kancelaria parafialna tego dnia będzie zamknięta.
KORONKA DO MIŁOSIERDZIA BOŻEGO
Dzisiejszej niedzieli gromadzimy się na wspólnej modlitwie
Koronką do Miłosierdzia Bożego. Jest to godzina modlitwy o
potrzebne łaski dla nas i dla naszych bliskich. Jezus powiedział
siostrze Faustynie: "... O godzinie trzeciej proś o moje
miłosierdzie. To jest godzina wielkiego miłosierdzia dla całego
świata. ... W tej godzinie niczego nie odmówię duszy, która
prosić mnie będzie rozważając moją mękę.
NABOŻEŃSTWO FATIMSKIE
W sobotę 13 października zapraszamy na Nabożeństwo
Fatimskie, które zostanie odprawione o godz. 19:00. To już
ostatnie takie nabożeństwo w tym roku, które w naszej parafii
odprawiamy przez sześć "letnich" miesięcy ku upamiętnieniu
"cudu słońca" jaki dokonał się w Fatimie w 1917r.
ROK JUBILEUSZOWY
W sobotę gościliśmy w naszych progach Jego Ekscelencję ks.
bpa Roberta McManus, biskupa ordynariusza naszej diecezji.
Przybył do nas, aby przewodniczyć Celebracji Jubileuszowej.
Pośród dostojnych gości znajdowali się również ks. bp
Zygmunt Zimowski, ks. bp. Daniel Reilly, ks. bp George
Reuger, ks. prałat James Maroney oraz inny zaproszeni księża.
Specjalnie na te okazję Papież Benedykt XVI udzielił naszej
parafii przywileju Odpustu Zupełnego. Bazylika jest kościołem
podlegającym jurysdykcji Papieża i cieszymy się, że w tym
szczególnym dniu uhonorował On nas takim przywilejem. Aby
uzyskać odpust należy spełnić następujące warunki: odbyć
spowiedź, przyjąć komunie św., nawiedzić Bazylikę i odmówić
modlitwę w intencji Ojca św. Odpust Zupełny można ofiarować
zarówno za żywych jak i za zmarłych. Można go otrzymać
tylko raz w ciągu dnia. Natomiast Odpust Cząstkowy można
otrzymać za każdym razem, kiedy nawiedza się Bazylikę.
Ten dzień pozostanie na zawsze w historii naszego Kościoła,
a także w pamięci tych, którzy w nim uczestniczyli. Jakkolwiek
obchody Jubileuszu ograniczają się tylko do jednego dnia, to
Jego doświadczenie będzie nam służyło jako inspiracja w
przyszłych działaniach służących rozwojowi Bazyliki św.
Józefa.
FALL CATHOLIC SCHOOL APPEAL
W imieniu uczniów Szkoły św. Józefa serdecznie Dziękujemy
naszym parafianom za ich ofiary. Do tej pory zebraliśmy
2364,50 dolarów.
Druga kolekta dzisiejszej niedzieli jest przeznaczona na
Zobowiązania Diecezjalne.
Druga kolekta w przyszła niedzielę będzie przeznaczona na
pokrycie kosztów utrzymania i energii.
NABOŻEŃSTWO PAŹDZIERNIKOWE
Wszystkich parafian zapraszamy na tradycyjne Nabożeństwo
Październikowe, które odprawiamy przez cały miesiąc.
Gromadzimy się na wspólnym Różańcu w następującym czasie:
Pn-Pt 18:30, Sb 15:30, Ndz. Po Mszy sw. o godz. 11:00. Dzieci
otrzymują specjalne obrazki z figurkami i obrazami Matki
Bożej z Sanktuariów Maryjnych w różnych zakątkach swiata .
DZIEŃ WYBORÓW
Jeden miesiąc dzieli nas od wyborów, w których będziemy
wskazywali naszych reprezentantów w rządzie. Dokonany
wybór będzie miał wpływ na to, czy posuniemy się do przodu
ku dobrobytowi, wolności sumienia i wolności religijnej
zagwarantowanej w konstytucji. Dlatego też nasza decyzja
musi być dobrze przemyślana i poprzedzona refleksją, tak by
służyła dobrze naszej przyszłości. Pamiętajmy, by wybierać to,
co jest ważne dla kraju, w którym żyjemy, a nie to, co służy

czy Demokratycznej. Weźmy pod uwagę, że nie tylko
ekonomia, ale również i moralność naszego kraju jest w
nieładzie, a my coraz bardziej i bardziej przyzwyczajamy się do
nienormalności i dewiacji traktując je jako normalny sposób
życia. Niech nasze wybory będą chrześcijańskie. Obowiązkiem
chrześcijanina jest uczestniczenie w życiu politycznym swojej
społeczności.
ROK WIARY
Ojciec święty, Benedykt XIV, ogłosił, że począwszy od 11
października cały Kościół Katolicki będzie celebrował Rok
Wiary. Rozpoczęcie całorocznych obchodów przypada w
pęćdziesiątą rocznicę rozpoczęcia Soboru Watykańskiego II i w
dwudziestą rocznicę publikacji Katechizmu Kościoła
Katolickiego. Te dwa wydarzenia były i nadal są darami, które
nadają pęd życiu Kościoła w XXI wieku. W naszej diecezji
inauguracja obchodów Roku Wiary rozpocznie się uroczystą
Mszą św. w Katedrze św. Pawła w Worcester, w piątek 12
października o godz. 19:00.
RELIGIA
Lekcje Religii odbywają się w każdy poniedziałek w godz. od
17:30 do 18:30. W najbliższy poniedziałek, 8 października z
powodu Columbus Day Lekcje Religii są odwołane!
Potrzebujemy wolontariuszy, którzy zechcieliby dołączyć
się do grona katechetycznego. Zainteresowanych prosimy o
kontakt z kancelarią parafialną.
Bierzmowanie. Spotkania przygotowawcze dla kandydatów
do bierzmowania będą odbywały się w każdą drugą i czwartą
niedzielę miesiąca. Najbliższe spotkanie 14 października w sali
konferencyjnej w szkole o godz. 8:30. Po spotkaniu wspólna
Eucharystia o godz. 9:30. Obecność kandydatów jest
obowiązkowa.
