THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME October 28, 2012 The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad indeed. —Psalm 126:3 RECOGNIZING JESUS The star of today’s Gospel is a panhandler. Bartimaeus is blind, yes, but he is probably also homeless and filthy, a real nuisance to respectable citizens. Even so, it is Bartimaeus who recognizes Jesus as the Messiah, places all his faith in him, throws aside everything he has (his cloak), begs him for mercy, receives new vision, and follows Jesus on the way to suffering and death in Jerusalem. How desperate will we have to get before we can do the same? This week’s second collection is for remaining envelopes in your packet. Next weekend’s second collection is designated for Diocesan Obligations. ALL SOULS DAY CEMETERY PROCESSION This Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm, in a spirit of prayer and loyalty to our deceased loved ones we will gather at Saint Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery. On All Souls Day, the Universal Church entreats God’s mercy on all who still wait in Purgatory to enter God’s kingdom. It is a time to offer prayers, Masses, and acts of charity on behalf of our loved ones. It is a unique opportunity to obtain a plenary indulgence once a day for a particular soul and partial indulgence as many times as you visit the cemetery or Basilica, pray for the intentions of the Holy Father and receive the Eucharist or Sacrament of Penance if needed. It is customary to place a votive candle on the grave of our loved ones as a sign of our prayerful remembrance. We invite all parishioners, parish organizations, the Children of Mary, Altar Servers and Boy Scouts, to come with their respective banners and medals to join us on this meaningful day. For those unable to walk you may stay in your car and still participate in this centuries old prayer service. On Friday, All Souls Day every priest has the privilege to say three Masses—one for the intention of the Holy Father, second for all the souls in purgatory and the third in a particular intention. During the general intercessions we will read the names of your loved ones that you submitted in the envelopes called wypominki. The Masses will begin at 6:00am with the reading of wypominki and at 7:00am Mass for all deceased parishioners. During the year we offer about 40 Masses for the souls of those you requested in the wypominki envelopes. October Rosary Devotion Schedule: Sunday, following 11:00am Mass; Mon. thru Wed. at 6:30pm (bi-lingual). RECOGNITION On Monday, October 22nd the Webster Board of Selectmen with Town Administrator, John McAuliffe presented our parish with a proclamation on the occasion of our 125th Jubilee Anniversary. Monsignor Czarnecki accepted this award on behalf of the parish and expressed gratitude to the town administration for 125 years of cooperation and friendly relations between the Town of Webster, Saint Joseph Basilica and Saint Joseph School. Page 3 ALL SAINTS DAY On Thursday, Nov. 1st we celebrate the solemnity of All Saints which directs our thought and minds to those who share the glory of God in heaven. From the beginning of Christianity faith was a source of strength for all Christians in daily persecutions and even tortures. Millions of people across the world attend Mass on All Saints Day and visit cemeteries which are filled with votive candles. This is a sign of the living testimony of faith in our contemporary generation. On this day we pray to all the saints, but especially to our patron saint. Since this is a Holy Day of obligation, please attend Mass according to our bulletin schedule. DISCOUNTED CEMETERY LOTS All Souls Day with its Liturgy raises many questions about the value and meaning of our life. At the end of our earthly pilgrimage, our souls will enter eternal destiny, but our body and our loved ones, will await resurrection in a particular place. In this meaningful season we will offer the sale of lots at a discounted price for parishioners and Catholic friends. Current prices are: Single grave - $750, 2 grave-$1500; 4 grave-$2800; 6 grave-$3900; 8 grave-$5200. The opportunity to purchase lots at discounted prices—10% on single grave and 15% on the others expires on November 30, 2012. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT First Friday adoration of the Blessed Sacrament this year is combined with All Souls Day. It is a great opportunity for all the faithful to come and pray for the repose of the soul of their loved ones before the Blessed Sacrament. Adoration will begin after the 7:00am Mass on November 2nd and continue throughout the day concluding at 3:00pm with the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy followed by benediction. Adorers are asked to attend at their scheduled time. A bi-lingual Remembrance Mass for parishioners who passed into eternity this past year will be celebrated at 7:00pm. The Main Celebrant and Homilist will be Msgr. James Moroney. The Bereavement Ministry cordially invites all the St. Joseph Basilica Community, to offer the Eucharistic sacrifice for our loved ones. PARISH JUBILEE NOTES Jubilee Anniversary Book-Sylvia Kitka and Joan Comeau are preparing the Anniversary Book which will feature the highlights of our 125th celebration. The book will be available before Christmas. We received many congratulatory messages from businesses, organization and parishes. There were several inquiries made if private individuals could place their own message. We are not soliciting these ads, but if anyone would like to place a personal message in the book, please complete the forms available at the entrances of the Basilica. For more information call Sylvia (508-943-0201). All those who contributed to Jubilee Fund will be listed in the anniversary book. If you wish to be acknowledged in this book, you can still make a donation. This especially pertains to those who are close to the suggested amount. Lottery Raffle -Thank you to all who purchased a lottery raffle ticket. Your generous support resulted in proceeds of $5310 to benefit our parish Jubilee fund. We are grateful to all who participated in this jubilee project. Winners were announced in our Sept. 30th bulletin. 125th Anniversary DVD-will be available soon. If you wish to purchase this DVD, order forms will be placed at the entrances of the Basilica next Sunday, Nov. 4th. It is a beautiful remembrance for yourself or as a gift for someone else. - Jubilee Committee ELECTION DAY—NOVEMBER 6, 2012 Tuesday, Nov., 6th is Election Day. We will not only be voting for President and Congress but for many state and local issues. Question 2 titled Prescribing Medication to End Life, formally known as Massachusetts Death with Dignity Act, legalizes the taking of a life of a terminally ill patient with the help of a physician. If we vote yes on Question 2, we make a lethal weapon available to the patients to commit suicide or who wish to take their own lives. Physician Assisted Suicide, which is a form of euthanasia, cannot be accepted. It transgresses the fifth commandment “You shall not kill” and the commandment of love: “Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of Mine, you did to Me”. The “VOTE NO on QUESTION 2” bumper stickers are available at the entrances to the Basilica. Please reflect on the ideology, performance and basic principles of both candidates for our next president before you make your decision to vote. At the present time religious liberty, which is first granted to us by God and protected in the First Amendment in our Constitution, is in jeopardy. Also the moral fabric of our society is in danger. There is such a thing as right and wrong, good and evil. Murder is always murder even if you call it dying with dignity. Truth has the highest value and cannot be manipulated by anyone. We are first Catholics and Americans—party affiliation, democrat or republican are second to our religious and national values. DID YOU LOSE A SET OF KEYS? A set of keys was found on the stage in the St. Joseph School cafeteria on Friday evening, Oct. 19th. One of the keys was for a Ford vehicle. Please contact the rectory to retrieve your lost items. CENSUS FORMS If you have not as yet completed and returned your Parish census Form, please do so as soon as possible to verify your membership at our Basilica. It is important that you return this form in the collection basket or mail to the rectory. Mr. Clem Starosta, our chairperson will gladly answer any questions you may have at (508)943-8285. NOVEMBER CASH CALENDARS You still have an opportunity to purchase a cash calendar ($10) for the month of November—30 chances to win. During September we had several lucky double winners. Zachęcamy wszystkich parafian do odmawiania różańca codziennie w październiku w domach bądź wspólnie z innymi w kościele. Do udziału w procesji zapraszamy wszystkich parafian, organizacje parafialne, Dzieci Marii, Ministrantów i Skautów. 6:00. Kolejna Msza św. tego dnia, o godz. 7:00, zostanie odprawiona w intencji wszystkich zmarłych parafian. 7:00 i zostanie zakończona Koronką do Miłosierdzia Bożego o godz. 15:00. Będzie to Msza dwujęzyczna a kazanie w języku angielskim wygłosi ks. prałat James Maroney. MIEJSCA NA CMENTARZU Uroczystość Wszystkich Świętych i Dzień Zaduszny mogą budzić w nas pytania na temat wartości i znaczenia naszego życia. Po zakończeniu ziemskiej wędrówki, nasze dusze wstępują do wieczności, a nasze ciała będą oczekiwały dnia zmartwychwstania w konkretnym miejscu, w grobie, w którym zostaną złożone. Z okazji Jubileuszu nasza parafia oferuje zniżki na miejsca na naszym cmentarzu. Oferowane zniżki są następujące: pojedynczy grób: $750 minus 10%, pozostałe podwójny grób: $1500, cztery miejsca: $2800, sześć miejsc: $3900, osiem miejsc $5200 - minus 15%. Zniżka potrwa do końca listopada. SPRZEDAŻ KARTEK BOŻONARODZENIOWYCH. W dzisiejszą niedzielę przed i po Mszy św. o 11-ej nasza rodzice z naszej sobotniej szkoły będą sprzedawać piękne kartki bożonarodzeniowe.
