Wojciech Smarzowski screenplay: Michał Szczerbic camera: Piotr Sobociński jr. cast: Marcin Dorociński, Agata Kulesza, Kinga Preis, Jacek Braciak, Malwina Buss Poland 2011 98' The action takes place in the Masuria district in the North-Eastern Poland just after the II World War. Tadeusz, the Home Army soldier, arrives at the house of the widow of the Wehrmacht soldier, whom Tadeusz happened to meet during the war. A brutal reality of the postwar anarchy determines the protagonists' fate. The only lighter accent in the world of the omnipresent violence is love that bursts out between the heros. Wojciech Smarzowski created another dramatic and severe picture of the world, in which the virtuous human being is only left with an unattractive moral victory. What is interesting is the ability of Smarzowski to grasp and maintain the dark atmosphere of the film from the beginning to its very end. Ascetic composition, dark tonality of the picture contributing to its realism, and a special kind of narration " being rather "demonstrating" than "telling the story" - all that constitutes this very original atmosphere of the film.
