God find when He searches for the fruits which we have given
back?
Damage. Hatred does more damage to the person in whom it is
stored than to the person on whom it is poured. Anon.

slow to anger and abounding in kindness.
– Psalm 103:8

Catholic Relief Services Collection.
FIRST EUCHARIST ANNIVERSARY MASS
This morning at the 9:30 a.m. Mass, we celebrate the first
anniversary of the 3rd grade children of our parish in receiving
Jesus for the first time. It is truly a beautiful opportunity for all of
us to reflect and remember our First Eucharist and how much Jesus
has meant in our lives. The children will assist during the Mass and
after Communion they will sing the same song that they sang at
their First Communion. After Mass there will be a small celebration
for the families in the cafeteria. Please pray for our young people
to always desire to receive Jesus and love Him with all their hearts.
2010 CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES COLLECTION
Bishop McManus writes “I call upon the people of the Diocese of
Worcester to continue their tradition of aiding the needy and of
giving the remarkable gift of hope to others through the 2010
Catholic Relief Services Collection....When we act with
compassion, generosity, and commitment to justice for the ‘least
among us’ we act as the Lord’s true disciples. ....When you give to
the Catholic Relief Services Collection you are assisting millions
of the poor throughout the world. I am very grateful for your
generosity.” This agency always responds first to any international
catastrophe, such Haiti and Chile.

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE DRE
RCIA. For the next 3 Sundays of Lent at the 9:30 a.m. Mass we will be
celebrating what is called “The Scrutinies” with our elect, Dylan, Jacob,
Joseph and Shawn Murphy who will be entering the Catholic Church at
the Easter Vigil. The Rites of Scrutiny are meant to uncover, and then
heal, all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the elects’ hearts and to bring
out through repentance all that is upright, strong, and good. These
celebrations also remind the entire parish community of the need to reflect
on their own sins and the need for God’s help. Please continue praying for
our elect.
Children’s Lenten Masses every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. during Lent. All
families with children are invited to come and celebrate the Eucharist.
Please remind your children to make loving sacrifices and good deeds for
others offering them up to Jesus. At the Offertory, they will place their
“sacrifices and good deeds notes” in the basket at the Crucifix and place
a flower at the base of our Lenten Cross.

MEGA RAFFLE RESULTS
The Parish Council Raffle Committee is pleased to report the
results of the Mega Cash Raffle drawing which took place on
February 27th. The event was very successful and the social
preceding the drawing was an occasion for enjoying specialty
foods, and exchanging pleasantries with one another.
As stated on the ticket, the raffle would become a 50/50 cash
raffle if less than 600 tickets were sold. As a result, we are pleased
to announce we were able to offer the following 50/50 cash prizes
to the winners: First prize – $9175 Marie Bengtson; second prize
- $250 Mark & Rick Dowgiewicz; third prize - $125 Michelle
Fasshauer. Congratulations to the winners and a sincere thank you
to all who supported this fund raiser. I am grateful to the Parish
Council for their time and efforts to initiate and conduct this
important fund raiser. The proceeds will be directed toward our
Diocesan Obligations.
SHARING OUR BLESSINGS
For far too long, parishioners across our country have avoided the
conversation about the true cost of running a parish. A handful of
parishes from our diocese have started an increased offertory
initiative. The initial results have been outstanding. Today, let us
begin an examination of our personal blessings. Stewardship giving
is a conscious way of supporting the weekly collection. It means
that we take some time every year to consider seriously our
donation in support of our parish’s annual budget.
This campaign is nothing new but a regular practice of our
stewardship in support of our church. In the fall all the parishes will
be involved in this campaign.
– Michael Gillespie, Diocesan Director of Stewardship
PARISH COUNCIL MEETING REPORT
The Parish Council met on Tuesday, February 23rd. Several
important issues were discussed including:
˜125th Anniversary of the Parish in 2012.
Evangelization - Reaching out to people who do not practice
their faith although they claim membership in St. Joseph Basilica.
Numerous efforts were made by personal calls and letters from the
Pastor during the Christmas/Easter seasons with minimal replies.
There were various suggestions on the table from eliminating them
from the parish roster, reaching them through personal friends, or
sending one more message.
Promoting devotion to St. Joseph. St. Joseph is increasingly
venerated in Catholic communities across the world. Our
contemporary generation identifies itself with him as a role model
in family and community life. Several suggestions were considered.
Parish Organizations. The parish is blessed with several
important organizations who are in existence over 100 years and
provide a spiritual and financial support to the parish. An effort
should be made to revisit their objectives, build on their spiritual
patrimony and increase the membership.
Property Improvement. The outside entrance to the church needs
to be addressed and a new sign for St. Joseph Basilica was
proposed. The church heating and cooling units require
replacement in the next couple of years. Landscaping between the
convent, church and on the Maynard Street side requires attention,
including water drainage.
˜Parish Guidelines for Employees. The guidelines are based on
diocesan policies, however, each parish needs to adjust them to
their own needs. Many questions were raised and it was decided to
study the issue in more depth at the next meeting.
˜Campaign to Increase Sunday Offering. Across the diocese
the campaign to increase the Sunday offering has been initiated.
Several parishes have already begun this procedure and St. Joseph
Basilica will introduce the campaign in the Fall.
DONATIONS
St. Joseph Basilica. It is with deep gratitude that we acknowledge
a donation of $1000 to the Basilica from the estate of Gladys
Borowski. It was Gladys’ wish that she and her parish, which she
cherished, be remembered through the proceeds from her estate.
This noble practice has biblical roots and is conducive to our long
Catholic tradition that any unexpected blessing, unanticipated
benefits or bonuses, should be shared with the Church. We also
learn this from our parents. We are grateful to the Borowski family
for honoring her wishes and we pray that Gladys is at peace with
Our Lord in heaven.
We also acknowledge the donation of $200 in memory of Mary
A. Miller by Kerry Kozlowski of Bristol CT. Thank You!
Friends of St. Joseph School Fund. In memory of: Cate Lacey by
Carolyn Swierzbin, Elizabeth Sabaj; Adele Pakulski by Madeline
Iacobucci, Josephine Trojanowski.

Bakeless Bake Sale are still being accepted.
The St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club is pleased to announce that the
scholarship applications are available to active members whose son or
daughter will be graduating from high school and entering their first year
of college, and for students attending St. Joseph School for the 2010-11
