Please note: All members of the Sacred Heart Society and
parishioners are cordially invited to join us at the 7:00 a.m. Mass
which is designated for either the living or deceased members of
the Sacred Heart Society.
WHY REGISTER TO THE PARISH
Registration is the official way we join our parish community.
Sporadic participation in Mass in different churches or attendance
at the festival does not make one a parishioner. Any adult who is
over 18 years of age and not in school is required to register under
his/her own name. Registration is a personal commitment to a
community of faith, a way to be included in the ministerial,
religious and social activities of the parish. Personal registration is
necessary to receive benefits like scheduling the sacraments,
obtaining sponsor certificates, getting a statement for taxes
regarding your contributions etc. From the Canon Law point of
view you cannot be baptized or married if you are not a member of
a given community of faith because the pastor does not have
jurisdiction over you. Above all, registration in the parish is your
personal statement on your life of faith. If you are not registered
please consider doing so now. If you recently moved from a
different location you should register within three months. To
register please call the rectory.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We kindly request any parent/parishioner to volunteer their
services this Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. to help with outdoor
cleaning around the school and the church. One or two hours of
your assistance goes a long way to help us! Rain date Tuesday.
Thank you.
DEVOTION TO PADRE PIO

month, day of his entry to eternity. Anyone interested in being part
of this ministry is requested to attend a special meeting which will
be held on Wednesday, September 1st at 6:30 p.m. in the rectory.

SCHOOL NEWS
This Tuesday, August 31st, we open our school doors to 155
eager students to begin the academic school year 2010/2011. As in
past years, the classrooms and corridors are sparkling, the various
labs are fully equipped, and with great anticipation the faculty
awaits the arrival of the children to extend a warm welcome.
Our principal, Mr. Donald Cushing, is extremely pleased with the
progress we are making and submits the following so that you may
be informed of the happenings in our school:
Dear Parents and Parishioners,
I hope that this letter finds you and your family healthy and
enjoying the conclusion of the summer respite. I clearly remember
the summer of two years ago when we had 30 consecutive days of
rain and cloudy weather (so it seemed) over that summer respite,
so I am thankful that we are having such a wonderful summer
season so far.
To begin, I am writing to let you know that I am thrilled, of
course, to report that we have registered 155 students for the 20102011 school year at St. Joseph School. Two years ago, in August,
I joined at student body enrollment at SJS of 104 students. That
number grew to 112 in August of last year and NOW has
blossomed to an astounding 155 students!!
We also will be having “visitors” (exchange students) from
Poland arriving at SJS in late September. The total numbering last
year’s group of students from Poland was 10 for the 7th and 8th
grades. The total for 2010-2011 will be 11 students (6 in the 8th
grade and 5 in the 7th grade). These students will matriculate at SJS
until Dec. 13 which will be approximately 10 weeks.
We are also extremely excited about the advent of the new
building addition at St. Joseph School (gymnasium, cafeteria,
library, science lab, computer lab, etc) becoming more of a reality.
We hope for the formal ground breaking to take place over the next
12 months.
In my best experience as an educator, I strongly believe in the
formation of character and extra curricular activities, celebration
of the liturgy and the 3 R’s (Religion, Respect, and Responsibility)
are the crucial parts of St. Joseph School catholic education and
I am determined to expand it and promote it again this coming
school year. By the time you read this letter, we will be busy getting
our classrooms ready for everyone. If you are looking for
something to do, stop by. We have plenty of jobs for volunteers.
Just be sure to call first at 508-943-0378.
With continued enthusiasm, we are looking forward to your
unequaled cooperation in supporting the efforts of St. Joseph
School.
Sincerely,
Donald Cushing, Principal
Family Mass. Next Sunday, September 5th, the Family Mass will

join them for the social.

SUSAN G. KOMEN 3-DAY FOR THE CURE
This year one of our parishioners, Cindi Gardner, will be
participating in a very special event called the Susan G. Komen 3Day for the Cure, from October15-17 in Philadelphia. October is
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She will walk 60 miles
over the course of three days with thousands of other women and
men. Net proceeds from this invent are invested in breast cancer
research and community programs.
She was asked to raise at least $2,300 in donations, therefore, she
really needs your help. Would you please consider making a
donation? Keep in mind how far she will be walking – and how
hard she will have to train. You can give online at The3Day.org.
You can also call 800-996-3DAY to donate over the phone. If you
prefer, you may contact Cindi at [email protected] for
further information. In Cindi’s words, “This cause is very close to
my heart. It has affected my family and many of my dear friends.
If my efforts will help save the life of one individual, then I will
walk for that one.” Thank you for your generosity.

ATTENTION GOLFERS AND FRIENDS
Alumni, relatives, friends and families of St Joseph School
Athletics it's time to get your team together for our 11th Annual
golf tournament to benefit St Joseph School Athletics!!. Last years
event at The Dudley Hill Golf Club (Nichols) was one of the most
successful in recent years so we will be back there again on
Saturday September 25th with a 1:00 pm shotgun start.
Immediately following the golf will be a full steak dinner,
including appetizers, and raffle at the PAV at approximately 6:30.
The cost this year for golf, cart, player gift and dinner is $100. The
success of this is a critical component to supplying our young
student athletes with the equipment they need to learn their sport in
a clean and safe environment and at a very reasonable price to our
athletes.
