Idleness. Idleness is the enemy of the soul. – St. Benedict
FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
February 8, 2009
(The Lord) tells the number of
the stars and calls them by name.
– Psalm 147:4
Tireless Discipleship. The Gospel
of Mark has no infancy narrative,
nor does it have a lengthy prologue to introduce it. In
Mark’s account, one could say, Jesus hits the ground
running. The stories we’ve been hearing these weeks come
from the very first chapter of Mark, and they show us the
public ministry of Jesus in its infancy. Today’s account
shows some of the strain or adjustment of his new life of
preaching the reign of God, healing the sick, and casting out
demons. Notice that after sunset, when darkness ended the
workday, people brought the sick and possessed to Jesus.
The following day he rose before dawn to get away by
himself to pray, but to no avail. Simon Peter and the others
don’t just look for him, they pursue him, filled with the
fervor that his ministry has incited.
With the self-sacrificing example he gave until the end of
his earthly life, He tells his followers that this is his whole
purpose. Through Mark, He is also telling the early church,
and He is telling us, that this is our purpose, our vocation:
to be tireless in our pursuit of proclaiming the Good News,
and in bringing the healing, reconciling touch of Christ to
the world.
A second collection will not be taken this weekend.
WITH SINCERE THANKS
With gratitude we acknowledge a donation of $9000 from the
Friends of St. Joseph School Fund which represents the interest
from the endowment fund. The total donation to the school for the
year 2008 was $23,000. Thank you to all who contribute to the
fund, and special thanks to Chairman C. Richard Piasecki and the
Board of Directors for their diligence and interest in St. Joseph
School.
DONATIONS
St. Joseph School. We gratefully appreciate a donation of $350
from Mr. Clem Starosta who fulfilled the dream of one student to
participate in a musical program. The parents could not afford to
provide this opportunity to the child and therefore Mr. Starosta
earned lasting gratitude of the grateful student. The donation
represents a percentage of his unexpected financial blessing. I
congratulate him on his sensitivity to the needs of children and his
faithful practice of stewardship. Many thanks and God bless you!
—With special gratitude we recognize the donation of $420 from
St. Andrew Bobola parish for the children of our school. We want
to commend the pastor, Rev. Joseph Szwach, and the parishioners
for their generosity and unreserved commitment to Catholic
education and support of St. Joseph School. The children of St.
Joseph School pray for their benefactors during the First Friday
liturgy.
—In memory of Richard Williams by Beverly Williams, Herb W.
Bergson Jr., Ejay & Linda Dawson.

Stewardship Thought. “Rising very early before dawn, he left and
went off to a deserted place, where he prayed...He told them, ‘Let
us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For
this purpose have I come.’” (Mark 1:35, 38). In today’s Gospel
reading we see a perfect example of stewardship. Jesus gives His
time to doing all that God wishes - healing the sick and preaching.
Yet Jesus also makes time to be alone in prayer. It is only through
prayer, through spending time with God, that any of us can find the
strength to do all that God wishes us to do. Be sure to find time this
week to be with God.
According to recent research among the dioceses charitable
giving to the Church remains the same despite bad economic times.
Could it be that those who are supporting our churches are not
those who live by the ups and downs of a stock portfolio? Maybe
we are surviving on many widows’ mites. Yet when we look across
the pews each Sunday we see that our members come from every
income bracket.
EVANGELIZATION
According to the Gallup poll more and more Americans consider
religion a very important factor in their lives. In the 1970's many
people left the Catholic Church, now they are returning in large
numbers, around 320,000 annually. Someone said that the Church
is hard to get out of your system because it is dealing with values
which no one else can offer. Many people in our country and in our
parish substituted true religion with cultural trends. The Parish
Council is determined and committed to reach out for the next
couple of weeks by telephone to those who for some unknown
reason have drifted from the Church. We ask you to pray to the
Holy Spirit for the success of our efforts. If you know someone
who could benefit from our mission please call the rectory with a
telephone number – your call will be kept confidential.
CATHOLIC FREE PRESS
Each year, the month of February has been designated as Catholic
Free Press month. Need help solving the puzzle of life? Catholic
media can help connect with truth and values through its stories
and photos to invigorate your faith and family life. The
experiences of people from all walks of life and from all parts of
the globe printed in the paper give us examples and encouragement
for our daily living. Through the Catholic press we can benefit
from the knowledge of the learned as well as those just beginning
to explore their faith and reason. We are blessed to have a weekly
newspaper
in our diocese. I encourage you to subscribe to this publication by
returning the envelope found in your budget packet. The
subscription price is only $23. Our parish quota for 2009 remains
at 347 subscriptions. I am grateful to those who subscribe faithfully
on an annual basis and encourage everyone to make the Catholic
Free Press your weekly visitor. Quite often Saint Joseph Basilica and
Saint Joseph School are featured in this publication. This Catholic
diocesan newspaper fills the void of vital information which is not
printed in secular newspapers.
ST. JOSEPH POLISH WOMEN’S CLUB
The monthly meeting will be held on February 10 at 7pm in the
school cafeteria. After the general meeting, we will be playing
Bingo for prizes. Hostess for the evening is Esther Lesse. Come and
warm up with friendly conversation and delectable refreshments! –

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
5 NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA
W obecnym roku liturgicznym podczas Mszy Świętych czytamy
Dzisiaj,
po raz kolejny jesteśmy świadkami cudownych uzdrowień: Jezus
uzdrowił teściową Piotra, a potem wielu innych chorych i
modlitwę, rozmowę z Bogiem, bo z niej czerpiemy siłę do dobrego
więc duchownych i świeckich. Rada parafialna naszej parafii
zamierza w najbliższym czasie podjąć to zadanie.
2009 roku, w godzinach 6.00 pm.- do północy. W Klubie PACC

przeznaczony dla szkoły Św. Józefa w zamian za korzystanie z sal
lekcyjnych przez Szkołę Języka Polskiego. Bilety w cenie $30 od
osoby są do nabycia na Plebanii oraz u: Marzeny Kolinski 508949-0939, Ewy Mamro 508-943-8545, Bernadetty Stachowicz 508353-1375, Danuty Gago 508-612-1974. Mile widziane przebrania

W DARZE DLA PARAFII
Dziękujemy za ofiarę $9000 od Funduszu Przyjaciół Szkoły Św.
Józefa. Za rok 2008 Fundusz przekazał łącznie $23000 na potrzeby
szkoły. Suma ta stanowi dochód z odsetek bankowych funduszu.
„KARSKI”
Otrzymaliśmy informację na temat przedstawienia teatralnego pt.
„Karski”, które będzie wystawiane w Worcester w Hibernian
Cultural Centre, 19 Temple St, w dniach 20, 21, 22 kwietnia 2009
roku o godz. 7:30 p.m. Jan Karski (1914-2000) był wielkim
patriotą, w czasie wojny był kurierem i świadkiem niemieckich
mordów na ludności cywilnej, zwłaszcza żydowskiego
pochodzenia.
spotkaniem z aktorami. Bilety indywidualne na ten dzień kosztują
$20, grupowe (min.10 osób) $15. Na pozostałe dni: indywidualne
$15, grupowe $10. Dodatkowych informacji udzia ks. Ryszard
Polek.
