In observance of Memorial Day the rectory will be closed
on Monday, May 30, 2016. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday,

Fathers’ Day will be celebrated on

give thanks and appreciate all that
your father, grandfather, Godfather, etc. means to you is to remember them in prayer. Please
take home a “Fathers’ Day” Mass
envelope and list the names of
those you wish to remember. The envelopes can be
found at all entrances of the church. All Masses on
the weekend of June 19th will be for the intention of
all Fathers.
Marriage Preparation Classes
Our parish offers pre-Cana classes in Polish
on the second Sunday of every month. There is no
registration require; however, participants must attend the 10:30 a.m. polish mass in order to attend the
class.
Classes in English, and Spanish are offered
by the Archdiocese of Chicago at different churches
in the Chicagoland area. More information about

Background on the Gospel
Reading
Today, the second Sunday
after Pentecost, we celebrate a
second solemnity, which
marks our return to Ordinary Time. Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. At one
time, this day was called Corpus Christi, Latin for “the
Body of Christ.” In the most recent revision of the liturgy,
the name for this day is expanded to be a more complete
reflection of our Eucharistic theology.
The feeding of the 5,000 is the only one of Jesus'
miracles to appear in all four Gospels. Luke places it between Herod's question, “Who is this about whom I hear
such things?” and Peter's response to Jesus' question about
who he thought Jesus was: “You are the Messiah of God.”
In Luke the feeding is not the result of Jesus' compassion
for the crowd but is instigated by the disciples. They
wanted Jesus to send the crowd away to town. Instead
Jesus tells the disciples to give them some food on their
own.
The passage is meant to remind us of two feedings in the Old Testament: the feeding of the Israelites in
the desert and Elisha's feeding of 100 people with 20
loaves in 2 Kings 4:42-44. It is also connected to the institution of the Eucharist. As in the Last Supper accounts in
Matthew, Mark, and Luke and in Paul's account in 1 Corinthians 11:23-24, Jesus takes bread, looks up to heaven,
blesses the bread, breaks it, and then gives it to the disciples. In using this exact language, Luke is reminding his
readers that in this miracle Jesus is doing more than feeding hungry people as God did for the Israelites and the
prophet Elisha did as well. The bread he gives is his body,
which he will continue to give as often as the community
breaks bread in remembrance of him in the Eucharist.

On the weekend of June
11-12, 2016, we will take up a
special collection for the Retired
Priests of the Archdiocese.
Throughout the year, I have had
several opportunities to meet
many of our 206 retired priests
who continue to share their priestly ministry in our parishes. It has
come to my attention that many

parishes depend upon their service for daily and Sunday
Masses and for countless funerals. Without the help of
our retired priests many parishes would have to reduce
Mass schedules and other sacramental services.
In April, it was my honor to celebrate the funeral
Mass for Monsignor Richard O’Donnell, our oldest priest.
Monsignor O’Donnell was 105 years old when he died.
He was ordained a priest in 1935, which means he served
as a priest of Chicago for almost 81 years. He spent his
retirement years at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish
where he had been pastor. Parishioners visited him every
day and somewhere in that time his ministry was returned
to him through their care and love.
Our retired priests rely upon your help now. The
Priests’ Retirement and Mutual Aid Association
(PRMAA) cares for our retired priests. As you know the
costs for health care, prescription drugs and nursing home
care continues to increase. This special collection in June
is different from the December collection for retired men
and women religious where the collection goes to those in
religious orders; Archdiocesan priests do not receive any
funds from that collection.
Many thanks to all of you for your most gracious
generosity in this collection last year and I ask that you
repeat that kindness this year. Your donations, your prayers, and your good wishes are an affirmation of our retired priests. With this letter, I wish to take this opportunity to share my heartfelt appreciation for the ministry
and devotion of our retired priests and I ask you to remember all the faithful priests who have gone to their
eternal reward. Wishing you every blessing, with kind

En aquel tiempo, Jesús
habló del Reino de Dios a la
multitud y curó a los enfermos.
Cuando caía la tarde,
los doce apóstoles se acercaron
a decirle: “Despide a la gente
para que vayan a los pueblos y
caseríos a buscar alojamiento y
comida, porque aquí estamos en
un lugar solitario”. Él les contestó: “Denles ustedes de
comer”. Pero ellos le replicaron: “No tenemos más que
cinco panes y dos pescados; a no ser que vayamos nosotros mismos a comprar víveres para toda esta gente”. Eran
como cinco mil varones.
Entonces Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Hagan que
se sienten en grupos como de cincuenta”. Así lo hicieron,
y todos se sentaron. Después Jesús tomó en sus manos los
cinco panes y los dos pescados, y levantando su mirada al
cielo, pronunció sobre ellos una oración de acción de gracias, los partió y los fue dando a los discípulos para que
ellos los distribuyeran entre la gente.
Comieron todos y se saciaron, y de lo que sobró
se llenaron doce canastos.

Solemnidad, Santísimo Cuerpo
y Sangre de Cristo
Esta fiesta se comenzó a celebrar en
Lieja en 1246, siendo extendida a
toda la Iglesia occidental por el Papa
Urbano IV en 1264, teniendo como
finalidad proclamar la fe en la presencia real de Jesucristo en la Eucaristía.
Presencia permanente y substancial
más allá de la celebración de la Misa y que es digna de ser adorada en la exposición solemne y en las procesiones con el Santísimo Sacramento que entonces comenzaron a celebrarse y que
han llegado a ser verdaderos monumentos de la piedad católica.
Ocurre, como en la solemnidad de la Trinidad, que lo que se
celebra todos los días tiene una ocasión exclusiva para profundizar en lo que se hace con otros motivos. Este es el día de la
eucaristía en sí misma, ocasión para creer y adorar, pero también para conocer mejor la riqueza de este misterio a partir de
las oraciones y de los textos bíblicos asignados en los tres ciclos
de las lecturas.
El Espíritu Santo después del dogma de la Trinidad nos recuerda
el de la Encarnación, haciéndonos festejar con la Iglesia al Sacramento por excelencia, que, sintetizando la vida toda del Salvador, tributa a Dios gloria infinita, y aplica a las almas, en todos
los tiempos, los frutos extraordinarios de la Redención. Si Jesucristo en la cruz nos salvó, al instituir la Eucaristía la víspera de
su muerte, quiso en ella dejarnos un vivo recuerdo de la Pasión.
El altar viene siendo como la prolongación del Calvario, y la misa
anuncia la muerte del Señor. Porque en efecto, allí está Jesús
como una víctima, pues las palabras de la doble consagración
nos dicen que primero se convierte el pan en Cuerpo de Cristo, y
luego el vino en Su Sangre, de manera que, ofrece a su Padre,
en unión con sus sacerdotes, la sangre vertida y el cuerpo clavado en la Cruz.
Procesión del Corpus Christi. Las procesiones son a modo de
públicas manifestaciones de fe; y por eso la Iglesia las fomenta y
favorece hasta con indulgencias. Pero la más solemne de todas
las procesiones es la de Corpus Christi. En ella se cantan himnos sagrados y eucarísticos de Santo Tomás de Aquino, el Doctor Angélico y de la Eucaristía. Algunos de los himnos utilizados
tradicionalmente son: Pange lengua; Sacris solemniis; Verbum
supérnum; Te Deum, al terminar la procesión; y, Tantum ergo,
al volver de la procesión, en torno del altar para finalizar.

Uroczystość Bożego Ciała
Jezus opowiadał rzeszom o królestwie Bożym, a tych,
którzy leczenia potrzebowali, uzdrowił. Dzień począł się
chylić ku wieczorowi. Wtedy przystąpiło do Niego Dwunastu mówiąc: „Odpraw tłum; niech idą do okolicznych
wsi i zagród, gdzie znajdą schronienie i żywność; bo jesteśmy tu na pustkowiu”. Lecz On rzekł do nich: „Wy
dajcie im jeść”. Oni odpowiedzieli: „Mamy tylko pięć
chlebów i dwie ryby; chyba że pójdziemy i nakupimy
żywności dla wszystkich tych ludzi”. Było bowiem około
pięciu tysięcy mężczyzn. Wtedy rzekł do swych uczniów:
„Każcie im rozsiąść się gromadami mniej więcej po pięćdziesięciu”. Uczynili tak i rozmieścili wszystkich. A On
wziął te pięć chlebów i dwie ryby, spojrzał w niebo i odmówiwszy nad nimi błogosławieństwo, połamał i dawał
uczniom, by podawali ludowi. Jedli i nasycili się wszyscy, i zebrano jeszcze dwanaście koszów ułomków, które
im zostały.

niezwykły dar i przepraszamy na początku tej
świętej liturgii, że tak często z niego nie korzystamy, nie w pełni uczestnicząc w Eucharystii.
Ciało Chrystusa zostało wydane za nasze grzechy i Jego Krew została za nas wylana, wyznajmy więc przed Bogiem swe grzechy, by mieć
udział w tym przebaczeniu, które przynosi Eucharystia.
