Our Lady of the Assumption
A message from our Seminarian:
I would like to thank all of you for your kind welcome here so far at Our Lady of the Assumption. So
that you know a little more about me, I would like
to share with you a little bit about myself. I grew up
in East Northport and my home parish is Christ the
King in Commack. My family still lives there, and I
have two younger brothers. I went to Catholic school
all my life. I graduated from St. John the Baptist
Diocesan High School in 2007 and from St. Joseph’s
College in 2011 with a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science. I now study during the school year at
St. Joseph’s Seminary (Dunwoodie) in Yonkers, NY.
God-willing, I will be ordained to the diaconate this
fall and to the priesthood next June. My previous
summer parishes are Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Deer
Park, and St. Kilian in Farmingdale.
From a young age, about the seventh grade, I have
felt the call from God to be a priest. There are many
experiences which I can credit to helping me recognize this call. I certainly give credit to my participation in my parish at Christ the King as an altar
server, sacristan, and in other capacities, which gave
me a sense of love and care for the sacred liturgy, the
Church, and God’s people. I would also credit my
participation in a program I did as a Scout (I am an
Eagle Scout) called the St. George Trek.
While I enjoy my studies at the seminary, it is good
to take some time off from my formal study and to
get some practice in the parish setting where I hope
to one day serve as a priest. While I am here at Our
Lady of the Assumption, I am studying Spanish and
getting practice. I enjoy assisting at the parish
Masses and meeting the parish groups. It is also
great to get to work alongside Fr. Janusz, who often
would assist my college Newman Club with Masses,
confession, talks, and Holy Hours. I am grateful for
his example and priestly spirit. As well, I am grateful
for the example of Fr. Dariusz who is a great pastor
and mentor for me as I prepare for the priesthood,
and am thankful for his willingness to accept me as
a seminarian here for the summer.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION
Registration for the 2014-2015 school year will begin
on Tuesday, August 12th and extend through Tuesday,
September 23rd. It will be held at the Religious Ed
offices on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

The tuition fee for the school year 2014-2015 will be
the same as last year. However, we are going to add a
fee for preparation for First Holy Communion of $50
(in addition to Confirmation) which includes the costs
of the prep. materials, photography, retreat,
confirmation gown etc. These payments must be
made at the same time as the tuition fee.

OUTREACH PROGRAM
How does this happen? As soon as I get used to writing one month,
it is the next month. Whoever the Roman was that said, “tempus
fugit” probably had this same problem For the parents whose children are in school --- the month of June will fly by---and for the children in school, the month of June will draaaag. I guess that’s life.
Now for life in the Outreach. Thanks to all of you almost as fast as
the food flies off the shelves, we have been able to replenish them
with your contributions. Admittedly, Long Island Cares is a very
generous source of food for us. IGA and Stop and Shop both make
donations in the form of either perishable items or other necessary
non-edible items. But we really depend on you as you have never
let us down. For example, we want to thank you for the generous
supply of peanut butter and tuna fish we received last week. Did
we ever tell you, YOU’RE THE GREATEST? This week we ask
that you stick to the the edible sale items as random foods are
needed; however, if you are the type that much prefers to be told
what to buy, we are very much in need of potatoes in any way,
shape or form.

approach to learning accident prevention skills.

New Religious Education Class
In the 2014-2015 school year, we will be offering a
Continuing Education class for young people ages 1417 who have already received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Father Janusz will be teaching this class
to continue formation in the Faith and to provide important ways to meet the contemporary problems that
Catholics face. It will be held Tuesday evenings at no

Origen de la devoción al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús
Santa Margarita María de Alacoque era una religiosa
de la Orden de la Visitación. Tenía un gran amor por
Jesús. Y Jesús tuvo un amor especial por ella.
Se le apareció en varias ocasiones para decirle lo
mucho que la amaba a ella y a todos los hombres y
lo mucho que le dolía a su Corazón que los hombres
se alejaran de Él por el pecado.
Durante estas visitas a su alma, Jesús le pidió que nos
enseñara a quererlo más, a tenerle devoción, a rezar
y, sobre todo, a tener un buen comportamiento para
que su Corazón no sufra más con nuestros pecados.

Zapisy rozpoczną się we wtorek 12 sierpnia i trwać będą
do wtorku 23 września. Zapisy prowadzone będą w biurze
Centrum Edukacji Religijnej we wtorki, środy i czwartki
w następujących godzinach:
wtorek: 14:00-19:00,
środa: 14:00-17:00,
czwartek: 14:00-17:00.
Opłaty za naukę religii będą takie same jak w roku
ubiegłym z tą różnicą, że wprowadzone będą zmiany w
opłatach związanych z przygotowaniem do 1szej komunii
św. i bierzmowania.
Opłatę związaną z przygotowaniem do sakramentów
Pierwszej Komunii Świętej i Bierzmowania należy uiścić
wraz z opłatą za cały rok nauki.

A SPECIAL GIFT FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT This week we join our prayer with the apostles and Mary, the mother of Jesus, as they await the coming of the Holy Spirit. This year OLA has received an early gift from the Holy Spirit in the announcement that during the next school year, Father Janusz will be offering a Continuing Education class to all young people who have received the sacrament of Confirmation. What a great and necessary gift to our children! Parents and grandparents, please encourage your children and grandchildren to desire a greater knowledge of their Faith. It is only by knowing that we come to love. Just as we would not send our children out into the world with only an elementary school education, we cannot expect an eighth grade education in religion to carry them for a lifetime. So please present this to them as a wonderful opportunity, not a necessary chore. People often ask what heaven will be like. In today’s Gospel we have Jesus’ answer: “Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ”. By coming to know God better through prayer and study, we have a foretaste of heaven. And in this life, this is where we find our joy! In the words of the psalmist: “Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy!” Agnes Scheuermann
