Stewardship Note: “But because he wished to justify himself
he said to Jesus, ‘And who is my neighbor?”’ Jesus answers
this question by telling the story of the Good Samaritan. His
answer was: “the one who showed compassion.” A steward
makes every effort to feel what one in need is feeling and then
to act accordingly. Like the Good Samaritan, a steward must
act on his compassion.

LIVING GOD’S COMMANDS
The first reading forms part of Moses’ farewell
discourse, a call to the people to return to God. It
is not a legalistic summons; rather, it is an appeal
to heart and soul. It outlines a command that is not
impossible to follow, or too difficult to undertake,
or too expensive. Look into your hearts, says
Moses; there you will find what to do.
Paul sees Jesus Christ as the image of God, the agent of creation and preservation. We sense, in his words, things profound:
“dominions or principalities or powers.” But in the midst of
that, Paul keeps his attention on Jesus Christ, head of the
church. It is in Christ that we find fullness and reconciliation—
in the blood of the cross.
Luke’s Gospel illustrates the double commandment of love
with the story of the Good Samaritan. The story is a radical
one, for it comes to focus on the question of who my
“neighbor” is. That neighbor is not identified with any group,
but rather by the scope of our compassion.
The second collection this week is for Higher Energy Costs.
ENFORCEMENT OF HHS MANDATE DELAYED
The U.S. Dept. Of Health and Human Services this past week
issued a 110-page ruling on its contraceptive health care mandate that was to go into effect Aug. 1 for some no profit entities.
It moves the date of implementation to Jan. 2, 2014.
This HHS mandate requires that almost all employers, even
those with moral objections to contraception, abortion and sterilization, provide employees contraceptives, including those
that cause abortion and sterilization, free of charge as part of
services for women under the new health care law.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, president of the U.S.
Conference of Catholic Bishops, is analyzing the ruling, said,”
It will require more careful analysis. We will provide a fuller
statement when that analysis is complete.”

of 29 charitable, educational and pastoral programs is an excellent witness of your own Christian generosity.
The Bishop is grateful for the efforts of Msgr. Czarnecki and
especially our Chairpersons, Betty Sabaj and Carolyn Swierzbin for their diligence and yeomanship in making this appeal a
successful accomplishment at Saint Joseph Parish.
NOVENA TO SAINT JOSEPH
Every Wednesday evening at 7:00pm is available to parishioners and friends who seek Divine assistance in their personal
and family life through the intercession of St. Joseph. It is encouraging that our parishioners, but especially people from outside our parish, recognize the effective help of St. Joseph and
request Masses on Wednesdays which are noted in our weekly
bulletin.
We also give the opportunity to those who prefer an early
Wednesday morning Mass to include a brief Novena to St. Joseph. However, at 7:00pm, we celebrate a votive Mass to St.
Joseph with his statue placed in the sanctuary where numerous
petitions are read by the celebrant according to the wishes of
the individuals. Please print your intentions legibly and place
in the box provided.
In view of this you can reserve a Mass for a special occasion,
e. g., an upcoming marriage, an anniversary, a birthday, a pending birth, a holiday, etc. Masses may be reserved at 6:30am
and 7:00pm for your special intentions. Please call the rectory to select a preferred date.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED
As we continue to prepare our school for the return of our
students in late August we need volunteers to clean and paint
our classrooms. If you have a few hours of leisure time, we

ORGANIST VACATION
Mr. Robert Wojcik will be enjoying a well deserved vacation. He will depart on Tuesday, July 16th and return on
August 18th. We wish him a relaxing holiday with family and
friends and a happy and joyful return to St. Joseph Basilica.

We are seeking responsible and reliable part-time help to assist in daily operations at St. Joseph Garden of Peace. Applicants must have a pleasant personality, ability to use the back
hoe and have knowledge of maintenance of the equipment. If

OFFICE OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
If you have not registered your son or daughter for Religious
Education classes for the 2013-2014 session, please do so as
soon as possible. There are several upper classmen who have
not yet returned their forms. The fee is $30 for one child and
$50 for two or more children. Forms are available at the entrances to the Basilica.
MUSICAL PROGRAM
We are pleased to announce that Ms. Svetlana Mozheiko will
join our faculty as a music teacher in late August to implement
her musical knowledge to the students at Saint Joseph School.
She is a graduate of Belorussina State Conservatory, Minsk,
Belarus and Rudny College of Music, Kazakhstan. She has
held several positions as choir director and at the present time is
an organist at a Worcester parish. She is a member of our St.
Joseph Basilica Choir. We look forward to Ms. Mozheiko’s
sharing her musical expertise with our students.
ATTENTION: Enjoy soccer? - why not use your spare time to
volunteer as a Soccer Coach for our St. Joseph School students
for the upcoming fall season. Don’t pass up this exhilarating
experience of guiding our youngsters through an important

SAINT JOSEPH POLISH WOMEN’S CLUB
Executive Board will meet on Tues., July 16th at 6:30pm in

SAINT ANNE SOCIETY
On Sunday July 28th St. Anne Society of St. Joseph Parish
will celebrate the Festivity of St. Anne at 8:15am Mass. This
organization is one of the oldest in our parish. We ask parishioners and friends to join this spiritual organization and enhance
the mission of the church. New members will be installed at

FESTIVAL APPRECIATION DINNER
St. Joseph Basilica would like to recognize the help of many
individuals who generously provided their helping hands to us
during the Festival Weekend. The Hospitality Committee is

4:00pm Mass in the school cafeteria. For logistic reasons, we

Science in Boston is holding an exhibit until Oct. 20, 2013
which includes fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls and a
comprehensive collection of antiquities from Israel. This may

especially in a parish or cluster which would like to kick off
Biblical studies for young people and adults.

KOCHAJ!
Czasem zatrzymujemy się, zadając sobie
pytania, kim jest Bóg, jaki jest sens naszego życia
i istnienia świata. Zagłębiamy się w filozoficzne
dywagacje i w końcu dochodzimy do wniosku, że
czujemy się w tym wszystkim zagubieni.
Tymczasem mamy być ufni wobec Boga jak dzieci
wobec ojca. Chrystus daje nam receptę na udane życie: kochaj
Boga i kochaj bliźniego, wtedy wszystko będzie miało sens.
Kochaj, bo w miłości jest Bóg. Takie to zwyczajne i proste,
a jednocześnie takie trudne.
Dzisiejsza druga kolekta jest przeznaczona
na pokrycie kosztów utrzymania i energii.
NOWENNA DO ŚW. JÓZEFA
Pomnij, o najczystszy Oblubieńcze Maryi, o mój najmilszy
Opiekunie Józefie Święty, że nigdy nie słyszano, aby ktokolwiek
wzywając Twej opieki, Twej pomocy błagając pozostał bez
pociechy. Tą ufnością ożywiony przychodzę do Ciebie i z całą
żarliwością ducha Tobie się polecam. Nie odrzucaj modlitwy
mojej, o przybrany Ojcze Odkupiciela, ale ją usłysz łaskawie i

Kościół od dawna uczy, że św. Józef nie jest świętym tylko
dla niewielkiej grupy wiernych, ale wstawia się za wszystkimi,
którzy potrzebują Bożej pomocy. Św. Józef jest patronem
Kościoła Powszechnego, a Jego patronat i ojcowska opieka
rozciąga się na wszystkich.
W najbliższą środę, jak co tydzień już od dwóch miesięcy,
spotykamy się na połączonej ze Mszą św. Nowennie do św.
Józefa. Zapraszamy wszystkich parafian i przyjaciół. Bardzo

LITERAMI. Jednocześnie przypominamy, że kartek z
intencjami nie przechowujemy na następny tydzień (następną

tygodnia.
Kościół to cos znacznie więcej niż budynek. To wspólnota ludzi, którzy czerpią z Bożej miłości i wspólnie Bogu służą.

W dniach od 18 do 26 lipca w sanktuarium w
Sturbridge zostanie odprawiona 126 Nowenna do św.
Anny. Tegoroczny temat nowennowych rozważań brzmi:
"Z wdzięcznym sercem". W ciągu dziewięciu dni
różnorodni goście będą prezentowali rozważania
powiązane z powyższym tematem. Zapraszamy parafian

czasów biblijnych i terenów, gdzie Biblia powstawała,

WAKACYJNY WYJAZD
