Stewardship Note for Pentecost Sunday. “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.” The Spirit gives each of us different gifts. The reason we are given those gifts is so that we may perform different forms of service for the Lord. If you don’t use your gifts for the Lord, who will do the special work that God had in mind for you alone? MARRIAGE BANNS III - Jessica Conroy-Laboeuf and Jason Legault PENTECOST SUNDAY - June 12, 2011 There appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. Liturgy: Work of the Spirit. The Spirit of God who hovered over the waters at the dawn of creation–the Holy Spirit who descended upon the disciples at Pentecost in ever-changing forms in the sound of a mighty wind or tongues of flame–hovers also over our celebration of the liturgy, giving it life, making it real. It is the Spirit of God who draws us, gathering us together, Sunday after Sunday. It is the Spirit of God who called loudly to the inspired writers of the scriptures and who continues to whisper to us, revealing evernew facets of God’s word, granting insight just when we need it. It is by the Spirit’s power that, when Christ’s words are uttered by the priest, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ......Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love. The second collection this weekend is designated for Utility and Energy Costs The second collection next weekend will be taken for the Catholic Communications Campaign Before He ascended into heaven, Jesus assured his disciples that he would not abandon them. Through the power of the Holy Spirit and the preaching of the apostles, God communicates to us the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. Since the first Pentecost, communicating God’s word has been an integral part of the Church’s great commission. The message of God’s love is needed today as much as in the apostolic times. We live in a world that longs for hope, and our prayers to God are our way of communicating with the almighty Father who never fails to answer us. Please support the Annual Catholic Communications Campaign collection next week. CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2011! JOSEPH CEMETERY Some concerned parishioners asked about the use of the “Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.” The money for perpetual care comes from a predetermined percentage of the sale of cemetery lots. The Perpetual Care money is deposited in the Diocesan Expansion Fund (DEF). The monies associated with the Perpetual Care Fund have guidelines and are closely monitored by the Diocesan Finance Committee and state law which determines how the money is utilized. The Perpetual Care Fund was established only to preserve our cemeteries for the future care of these sacred grounds in perpetuity. That being said, rules have been established for the use of these funds to ensure that preservation will be funded. The principal of the Perpetual Care Fund is reserved for the betterment of the cemetery such as expanding the cemetery, all development stages for new sections and the building of new roads. However, the interest earned from the Perpetual Care account can be used for the day-to-day operation of the cemetery and its properties. The interest earned, in addition to funds raised from the operational budget, can be used for items to include salaries, insurances, heating and fuel costs, equipment and all general maintenance of the cemetery property. This message was reviewed and approved by an appropriate diocesan official. ˜On Monday, June 6, there was a gathering at the cemetery to address issues of concern. Only five people came to voice comments. I am grateful for their input expressed in a friendly way. ˜This Tuesday there will be people working at the cemetery to address the few problems on some graves. If anyone is expecting a monument to be delivered, please call the rectory. We will try to dig several foundations at one time to save money on concrete. The grass is being cut regularly by 2 men who are working every day on a part-time basis. We try to keep everything orderly but incidents always happen. This week we experienced a water pipe breakage and had to dig some 3 ft. underground to get to the source. The problem has been fixed and we appreciate your patience. Should this happen again, water is always available at the pump near the garage. St. Joseph Cemetery is frequently visited and its appearance will be always appropriate to these sacred grounds. PILGRIMAGE TO ST. ANNE SHRINE There will be a walking pilgrimage from Southbridge to St. Anne Shrine in Sturbridge on July 24th. It is approx. 5 ½ miles. Anyone interested in taking part please call Father Gregory at the rectory.
