Stewardship Note: “So they took away the stone.” (John 11:41)
Perhaps one of Our Lord’s greatest miracles was the raising of
Lazarus. Yet, we see that even in this great miracle Jesus calls
others to act. He tells the crowd to roll away the stone from the
tomb. And they protest, saying it will stink. How often do we think
that something God is asking us to do might “stink” – whether it is
giving more of our time, our talent or our treasure? Yet if we are
willing to follow Our Lord’s command and take away the stones
that block us from participating in God’s work, we can expect great
miracles in our lives.
FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
April 10, 2011
Out of the depths I cry to
you, O Lord,
Lord, hear my voice!
-Psalm 130:1
Give Glory to God. On the Fifth Sunday of Lent, just
before we begin to enter Holy Week, we are summoned to
Bethany. If we had been friends of Mary, Lazarus, and
Martha, and found out that Lazarus was gravely ill, we
probably would have dropped everything to be with them.
This was what was so surprising about the behavior of
Jesus. Although he was their close friend, he chose to stay
away, that God’s glory would be manifested. This is a
persistent theme in John’s Gospel. Right to the very end,
Jesus’ works were meant to give glory to the Father. As our
Lenten journey reaches a crescendo, let us be mindful that,
as people who have “put on Christ” in baptism, we are also
called, by our attitudes and actions, to give glory to God.
The second collection this weekend is directed toward the
Utility and Energy Costs
PARTNERS IN CHARITY
A special thank you to those parishioners who contributed to the
Partners in Charity Diocesan Drive last weekend. The amount
forwarded to the diocese was $12,213.50, which is a far cry from
our quota of $25,000. We realize that in these hard economic times
not everyone can increase their donations, but every contribution
is a help. If you have not as yet made your donation, you may do
so this week. Thank you and God bless you.
– Betty Sabaj and Carolyn Swierzbin, chairpersons
DONATIONS
It is with utmost gratitude that we acknowledge a donation from
the Holy Rosary Sodality of $1000 to help defray the cost of fuel
for the parish. May God continue to bless the Executive Board and
all the members of this distinguished organization as they continue
to fulfill their mission.

ST. JOSEPH BASILICA 125th ANNIVERSARY
CELEBRATION
The 125th Anniversary of St. Joseph Basilica is a milestone event
in the life of this community. Many generations made a significant
imprint on the St. Joseph Basilica family through their zeal,
dedication and enthusiasm. They built and maintained the church,
rectory, school and convent. They established several parish
organizations that are more than 100 years in existence. They
sponsored countless spiritual and cultural programs, cared for
education and formation of character of their children in St. Joseph
School. This beautiful legacy is worth to remember, to celebrate,
and to pass on to the next generation.
The jubilee is usually celebrated over one year and holds several
important activities and events. It requires time to plan and develop
proposals for this unique year of celebration. The jubilee will begin
in the Fall of 2011 and conclude with a festive celebration in
October 2012. We are forming a special committee comprised of
parish, school, organizations, and youth to prepare the plans for
this important occasion.
We are grateful to all the people who made contributions or
pledges toward the jubilee fund. For bookkeeping purposes, please
mark your envelope Jubilee Fund and indicate your commitment,
payment and pledge. The summer months are a good opportunity
to address several maintenance issues identified by the Parish
Council in previous bulletins.
SACRAMENT OF PENANCE
On Monday, April 18, at 6:30 p.m. the traditional penitential
service will be held for all parishioners and students of the
Religious Education classes. A special effort was made to invite
clergy from surrounding towns to assist with the confessions.
Please take advantage of this opportunity to be reconciled with God
and one another in the Sacrament of Penance. Please note that
confessions will not be heard during the Triduum of Holy Week.
If anyone needs a priest to visit the home of an elderly or sick
person to hear confessions, please call the rectory as soon as
possible.
LOOKING AHEAD TO LITURGICAL SERVICES
Retreat. I want to thank all the parishioners who participated in
the Lenten retreat whether in the English or Polish language. It

according to the teaching of John Paul II will be presented in the

such world influence over daily life.
Palm Sunday. Blessing of palms will take place before each Mass
on the weekend of April 16/17. Solemn procession and singing of
the Passion of Jesus Christ with the participation of the choir at 11
a.m. We kindly ask all members of the Sacred Heart Society to take
part in this procession.

Good Friday services at 3 p.m. and prayers at the sepulcher at
6:30 p.m. with the participation of the Sacred Heart Society. At the
same time we will begin the nine-day novena to the Divine Mercy.
Participation in the services during Holy Week is a sign of the
spiritual maturity of every Catholic.
Easter Sunday weekend is the traditional collection for
Educational Excellence at St. Joseph School. The second collection
will be taken by the students of St. Joseph School.
FROM THE CEMETERY MANAGER
Please remove all winter baskets and decorations by April 15th.
Any decorations remaining after this date will be discarded by
cemetery personnel. Reminder: Flowers are to be placed or planted
in front of the monuments only. – Kevin Rekowski, Cemetery Manager
PILGRIMAGE INTENTIONS
Many people would have liked to participate in the pilgrimage
to Rome for the beatification of John Paul II but were unable to join
us. Although you cannot physically travel to Rome, you can still
make a spiritual pilgrimage by praying to God through the
intercession of the Blessed John Paul II in your particular intentions
and giving your intention to those who are making the trip. If you
are interested please contact the rectory and we will provide you
with suggested prayers and contact person.
