Stewardship Note for Trinity Sunday. “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” (John 3:16). How can we say “thank you” to the God who has given His only Son to us? What can we give back in return? A life of stewardship is the only way to truly show our love and appreciation to God. A life of stewardship is a life of giving back time, talent and treasure to God. Failure to Deliver. Knowing the truth and not doing it is as foolish as writing a love letter and not mailing it. – Anon. THE MOST HOLY TRINITY - June 19, 2011 God so loved the world that he gave his only Son. – John 3:16a Feast of Faith. The Trinity is the central mystery of our faith. We believe that God is one, yet three: total unity and rich diversity. God is not a monolith, but a dynamic community of persons, a perfect, loving harmony of three. And the liturgy is the work of the Trinity. We begin all our liturgical celebrations with the sign of the cross, a reminder of our Trinitarian baptism, and the simplest of all professions of our faith. ....Throughout the Mass we address our prayers to God the Father, through Christ our Lord, in the Spirit’s power. And the Father hears our prayer, transforming bread into wine into the Body and Blood of his Son by the Holy Spirit. The second collection this weekend will be taken for the Catholic Communications Campaign Next weekend is the final collection for Partners in Charity. We still need $1410.50 to meet our goal. Once again we ask those parishioners who have not as yet made their contribution to consider doing so next week. The Peter’s Pence Collection contributions may be returned in the second collection or any time FATHER’S DAY This Sunday we celebrate Father’s Day, allowing us to honor our fathers with prayers, visits, a token of appreciation, or a silent prayer at the cemetery. These are all gestures of gratitude for all the hard work, security and support we receive from our fathers. And to all the Fathers–May the blessings and love of our Heavenly Father be yours in abundance this Father’s Day and always. FATHER’S DAY BLESSING God our Father, in your wisdom and love you made all things. Bless these men, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect. HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST On Sunday, June 26, we will celebrate the Feast of the Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also referred to as Corpus Christi. This year the liturgy will begin at our Basilica at the 11 a.m. Mass with Bishop Daniel P. Reilly as main celebrant and a procession to four altars concluding at the Emmaus Center. We ask you to please plan your day so as to take part in this solemn procession. We ask all the parish organizations to come with their banners and emblems. The banners should be displayed during the Mass in the sanctuary. All Eucharistic Ministers, First Communion children and altar servers in their outfits should take part in this solemn festivity. After the procession ice cream will be served for the children of the First Communion Class at the Emmaus Center. If you cannot walk the entire route you may visit at one of the traditional stations. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS MUSEUM The Knights of Columbus Museum in New Haven is privileged to announce the opening of a new Vatican exhibition dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Titled Full of Grace, Crowned Madonnas from the Vatican Basilica, this unique show was created by the Vatican just for our museum. This is the first time that the restored Crowned Madonna collection is being shown. It includes 90 beautiful works of art and a full-sized reproduction of Michelangelo’s La Pieta. Open May 8, 2011 - January 8, 2012. Through the end of June, the special Pope John Paul II exhibition titled “Blessed: A Tribute to John Paul II” will still be showing, giving the opportunity to see both of these magnificent exhibitions. Blessed includes painting, sculptures, relics, mementos and gifts from John Paul II. Both shows are great for children of all ages. Admission and museum parking are free, a public service of the Knights of Columbus. PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION Peter’s Pence Collection is a world-wide collection giving us the opportunity to extend a sign of peace to the Body of Christ. Our gifts to this annual collection help the Holy Father to support victims of disaster, war, and oppression and others most in need of assistance. Pope Benedict XVI uses the Peter’s Pence Collection to strengthen dioceses, religious orders, and struggling communities of faith. Bishop McManus writes that “as we participate in the appeal generously, we join Catholics throughout the world in a loving expression of solidarity. Moreover, we share in the concern of the successor of Peter for the many different needs of the universal Church and for the relief of those most in need around the globe. Let us join the Holy Father in his mission.” The collection will be taken on the weekend of June 25/26. OUR PARISH FESTIVAL IS HERE! JOSEPH CHOIRS AT THE CATHEDRAL The Children’s Choir and Basilica Choir was invited to provide the music for the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Paul Cathedral on Sunday, June 12th at 2 p.m. It was the first time that I witnessed any choir from outside the cathedral who took over the entire program. We are grateful to Mr. Robert Wojcik, the musical director, his musicians and choir for their sacrifice of time and talent. The spontaneity and quality of voices of the children really impressed the faithful from various parishes across the diocese. Bishop McManus thanked them and the congregation responded with a prolonged ovation. The children gathered at Lic’s for ice cream concluding a beautiful experience. PARISH COUNCIL MEETING Notice to All Members – Important Parish Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Conference Room on Wednesday, June 22nd. Please call Sylvia Kitka if you cannot attend. SCHOOL NEWS The St. Joseph School Graduating Class of 2011 enjoyed a good-bye party at the rectory on Monday noon courtesy of Rev. Msgr. Anthony Czarnecki. They enjoyed good food, friendship, and, of course, conversations amongst themselves on their plans for the summer and the future. Both Msgr. Czarnecki and Mr. Cushing briefly spoke to them about their nine years at St. Joseph’s, their dedication to studies and to their faith, and emphasized the need for continuing their ties with the Church and the school. The Friday before they enjoyed a special program given in their honor by every grade in our school. The Class of 2011 (Grade 8) presented two gifts for the school to Mr. Cushing. One gift was a Nokia camera with storage bag and memory card to be used to record the events that occur at the school throughout the year. The second gift was a check for $550 which will be used towards the registration to the web-based Accelerated Reader program. This program will allow the students greater access to more books and allows the teachers to personalize student practice, set goals for this practice, and provide a means to monitor progress towards these goals. VISIT OF MR. DICK NOWAK On June 13th the students of St. Joseph School had the privilege to welcome a very distinguished guest and alumnus of St. Joseph School from Flower Mound, Texas, Mr. Dick Nowak. The children gathered in the cafeteria and received him warmly with a spirit of gratitude for his genuine interest and unambiguous support of their education. Mr. Donald Cushing, Principal of St. Joseph School, briefly highlighted Mr. Nowak’s life story and his accomplishments in sports, business, and family life. The students presented him with several symbolic gifts and many had the opportunity to exchange a few words with this distinguished alumnus of St. Joseph School. The graduating class presented him with an autographed Yearbook 2011. In his brief remarks Mr. Nowak recalled many Sisters who taught him, shaped his character, expanded his mind and prepared him well for his future career. He regretted that the eighth grade who played such an important part in winning first place in the Route 395 Basketball League and receiving the coveted Sportsmanship Award did not have the opportunity to play in the new gym. It was his hope that the upcoming seventh and sixth grades – through the common effort of alumni and parishioners – will enjoy the new facility. Mr. Nowak had the opportunity to tour the school and get acquainted with the educational technology of St. Joseph School and enjoy presentations by the children on the interactive Promethean white board. As he toured the school he vividly remembered particular grades associated with many pleasant memories of his fellow students and the Felician Sisters. He also visited the land where the gym and parish center will be built. It was his first visit to St. Joseph School since 1955. Mr. Nowak will return in the second week of July to meet with the architectural company, executive committee and fellow alumni who share his enthusiasm for the new project.
