THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
October 24, 2010
The prayer of the lowly pierces the
clouds;
it does not rest until it reaches its goal,
nor will it withdraw till the Most High
responds.
For Those Who Persevere. There is a slight but real shift in
scriptural focus for the last few weeks of the liturgical year. For
many weeks we have been hearing what it means to be a
faithful disciple. Now we will focus on the reward that awaits
those who persevere on the long journey of faith. This Sunday
we hear that impartial justice will be done in the courts of our
eternal judge.
The second collection this weekend is for all remaining
envelopes in your budget packet
MONTHLY PADRE PIO MASS
On Saturday, October 23rd at 7 p.m. a special Mass will be
celebrated followed by the novena to Padre Pio. We will pray to
God through the intercession of Padre Pio for healing and other
personal needs. Petitions could be placed in the box at the entrance
to the church to be read aloud or be a silent intention known only
to the priest.
ANNUAL MASS OF REMEMBRANCE
The annual Mass of Remembrance for our parishioners who
passed into eternity from November 2009 to October 31, 2010 will
be celebrated on Tuesday, November 2nd at 7 p.m. The

Community, especially members of families whose loved ones
passed away this year, to offer for them the most effective prayer,
the Eucharistic sacrifice.

MOVING FORWARD
St. Joseph Basilica Parish is involved with other parishes in the
diocese in a program called Sharing Our Blessings. This is an
increased giving campaign to strengthen all 100+ parishes in the
Diocese of Worcester.
In recent weeks our parish has been preparing for the Program by
recruiting volunteer leadership, updating parish records and
producing program materials. Soon all members of St. Joseph
Basilica parish will be invited to participate in Sharing Our
Blessings. We hope you will respond positively and with
generosity.
This week you received a letter from Monsignor Anthony
Czarnecki describing Sharing Our Blessings and how our parish
will be involved. It is an opportunity for all of us to take an active
role in the growth of our parish and for each parishioner to practice
the principle of stewardship–giving back a portion of our blessings
to God.
On November 13 and 14, Commitment Weekend, each
parishioner will be asked to make a commitment to the parish’s
regular collection. Please pray about your participation in this
important effort.
FROM THE OFFICE OF THE DRE
On Monday, October 25th there will be a special presentation by
Msgr. James Moroney to the Religious Education students and
parents at 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Basilica. The topic is very
timely and interesting that involves the slight changes in the Mass
responses and text and the meaning of the Eucharist. Msgr.
Moroney with his own personal charisma will use audio-visual
materials and will explain the Eucharistic celebration in lay terms
which will be very informative and rewarding. We ask all the
parents and students of St. Joseph School as well as young people
of the parish who are not part of the Rel Ed program to attend this
session.
All Saints Family Event-“Lighting the Night with Jesus and
the Saints.” Come and celebrate with our Religious Education
Program being held for all parish families on October 27th from
6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria and gym. Please join us
and have fun learning more about the Saints as models of love and
faith.
RCIA. Our lives go through seasons of change; closeness to God
and distance from Him. Yet God the Father’s love is steadfast and
ever-present to those who seek Him with a sincere heart, no matter
what sins or situations have cause separation. If you have thought
or know someone who may want to become Catholic, or are
beginning a new “season” in your life and want to learn more about
your faith-contact Mary Jolda.

FROM THE DIOCESE
Say No to Ballot Question No. 2. The Catholic Bishops of
Massachusetts have written in support of our state’s Affordable
Housing Law and recommend voting “NO” on Question 2 this
November. A “Yes” vote would repeal the statute and would result in
a loss of support for affordable housing in many cities and towns for
seniors, young working families and disabled persons. The bishops’
position, which is supported by many other groups in the state, is
founded on Catholic social teaching. To learn more, visit
www.macathconf.org.
SIR JOHN MCNALLY, JR. KCHS HIGH RECOGNITION
We welcome this evening to the church Sir John J. McNally who was
inducted as Knight Commander of the Equestrian Order of the Holy

Timothy A. McDonnell, Bishop of Springfield MA. The Order of the
Holy Sepulchre is an Ecclesiastical Order of Knighthood. Membership
is considered one of the highest Papal awards conferred in the Catholic
Church upon Clergy and dedicated Laity. Congratulations, John, from
the entire St. Joseph Basilica family!
