This is an increased giving campaign to strengthen all 100+ parishes in the Diocese of Worcester. In recent weeks our parish has been preparing for the Program by recruiting volunteer leadership, updating parish records and producing program materials. Soon all members of St. Joseph Basilica parish will be invited to participate in Sharing Our Blessings. We hope you will respond positively and with generosity. This week you received a letter from Monsignor Anthony Czarnecki describing Sharing Our Blessings and how our parish will be involved. It is an opportunity for all of us to take an active role in the growth of our parish and for each parishioner to practice the principle of stewardship–giving back a portion of our blessings to God. On November 13 and 14, Commitment Weekend, each parishioner will be asked to make a commitment to the parish’s regular collection. Please pray about your participation in this important effort. The Catholic Bishops of Massachusetts have written in support of our state’s Affordable Housing Law and recommend voting “NO” on Question 2 this November. A “Yes” vote would repeal the statute and would result in a loss of support for affordable housing in many cities and towns for seniors, young working families and disabled persons. The bishops’ position, which is supported by many other groups in the state, is founded on Catholic social teaching. To learn more, visit www.macathconf.org. SIR JOHN MCNALLY, JR.
