TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
June 20, 2010
There is neither Jew nor Greek,
There is neither slave nor free person,
There is not male and female;
for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
– Galatians 3:28
Follow in the Footsteps of Christ.
The great fifty-day celebration of
Easter has concluded, as have the
feasts honoring the Holy Trinity
and the Body and Blood of Christ.
Last week we began a long stretch
of Ordinary Time that will bring us to late November. Saint
Paul tells us today that those who are baptized “have
clothed yourselves with Christ" (Galatians 3:27). This
scripture is echoed in the Church’s baptism ritual when we
sing, “You have put on Christ, in him you have been
baptized.” This message is inspiring and sobering at the
same time, for in today’s Gospel, we get to the heart of
what it means to be clothed in Christ. The Lord tells us, “If
anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and
take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). For the
next twenty-two weeks we are called to take up the cross
and, with Saint Luke as our guide, follow in the footsteps of
Christ.
The second collection this weekend is designated for the
Diocesan Catholic Communications Campaign
Next weekend, the second collection is the
Diocesan Peter’s Pence Collection

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
Father’s Day is a day honoring fathers
and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds,
and the influence of fathers in society. It is
celebrated on the third Sunday of June in
fifty-five of the world’s countries and on
other days elsewhere involving gift-giving,
special dinners and family oriented
activities.
We thank all Fathers for their loving
care, their leadership and stability in
family life and pray that God will give
them courage and strength in their role as head of the family.

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION
This special collection will be taken at all Masses on the
weekend of June 26 and 27 throughout the world. The
Peter’s Pence Collection enables the Holy Father to support
victims of disaster, war, and oppression and others most in
need of emergency assistance. Bishop McManus writes
“.....The pope, being pastor of the whole Church is attentive
to the material needs of poor dioceses, religious institutes,
and the faithful in grave difficulties.......such as the Nazareth
Boys Town in Mbare, Rwanda, who received assistance from
Pope Benedict XVI for abandoned orphans who are victims
of genocide and civil war; and in Bosnia, the Hospital of St.
Vincent de Paul, a health institution in Sarajevo staffed by
religious, which was established with support from this
Collection.”
“As we participate generously in the appeal, we join
Catholics throughout the world in a loving expression of
solidarity, sharing in the concern of the successor of Peter for
the many different needs of the universal Church and for the
relief of those most in need around the globe.”

and faculty enjoyed a presentation by the School Brass Band
Concert in the cafeteria under the direction of Mr. Charles
Cook. The concert was a review of the music the budding
musicians learned throughout the year with the addition of a
few interesting selections.
Last Day of School. With a Mass on Wednesday at 8:30
a.m. on June 16th, a solemn Mass was celebrated in a spirit of
gratitude to God for all the graces and blessings received
throughout the academic year. It was a very joyful and
sentimental day where the children brought flowers to the
teachers expressing gratitude for their work. It was also an
emotional time for the students as they said goodby to their
friends and acquaintances. At the end of the day the faculty
(full and part time teachers) celebrated the end of the year
with lunch at Point Breeze Restaurant.
Summertime. Please use caution when driving and keep an
eye out for bicycles, children crossing streets etc. We want
our students to have an enjoyable summer and return safe to
us in the Fall.
