Obligations $137; Fuel $1740.50 (incl. $108.50 in loose money).

MARRIAGE BANNS
II - Christine Small and Damien Lapierre
Word of Life. Everything in our days - our work, our sufferings,
our prayer, our ministries - everything we do and experience is
meant to be offered to God as a spiritual sacrifice. All of our work
for the unborn child, the poor and the disabled; all of our work for
immigration justice and the dignity of marriage and the family: all
of it should be offered for the praise and glory of God’s name and
for the salvation of our brothers and sisters.

TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
September 19, 2010
God...wills everyone to be saved
and to come to knowledge of the truth.
– 1 Timothy 2:4
Serve the One and Only God. The
scriptures for this Sunday remind us that we are accountable to
serve the one and only God. The first letter to Timothy states,
“There is one God. There is also one mediator...Christ Jesus”
(1 Timothy 2:5).
Serving the one God as our master requires that we assist in
God’s work. The work of God is to “lift up the poor...to seat
them with princes” (Psalm 113:7-8). Unlike the greedy
characters in the first reading from Amos, who are obsesses
with serving their earthly self-interest, we are to use the wealth
of this world to care for the poor, in service of the one and only
God.
The second collection this weekend is taken for the Catholic
League’s Annual Appeal for Religious Assistance to Poland.
ANNUAL APPEAL FOR CATHOLIC SCHOOLS
Next weekend the second collection is designated as the 2010
Annual Appeal for Catholic Schools. It is an occasion when the
entire diocesan family is called to support the critical work of our
schools in building tomorrow’s Church. Bishop McManus writes:
“Catholic schools prepare students to be women and men of
character and intellect. Rigorous academics, competencies in
technology, social justice programs, challenging artistic and
athletic programs, all taught within a framework that promotes
spiritual growth, these are the hallmarks of our Catholic
schools...... Your generosity provides schools with valuable
resources to support student programs, enrich faculty’s skills, keep
pace with emerging technology, and make the difference in tuition
payments for many families in need. Please help us build
tomorrow’s church by considering a gift to this year’s Appeal. I
sincerely thank you for investing in our schools. May God bless
you abundantly for your generosity.” A reminder that collections
taken in our parish will remain with St. Joseph School.
