The Easter message of eternity and new life won for us by Christ’s
resurrection refocused our priorities. Any work, sacrifice and
financial support for the church is the only thing which matters and
has lasting significance. I want to thank all of you for your
generosity to several collections during Easter. I am also grateful
for your personal Easter messages, cards and gifts sent to me. May
the Easter message motivate our activities and inspire dedication to
the Church.
SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER - April 11, 2010
Once I was dead,
but now I am alive forever and ever.
– Revelation 1:18a
Called to be Witnesses. Thomas probably would be a good
man to have in your corner in a modern-day courtroom.
Even though he was willing to follow Jesus to death (John
11:16), he’s not going to go out into the world now and
attempt to give witness to the risen Christ when all he has
at his disposal is hearsay evidence from the other apostles.
No, he wants immediate proof, a hands-on experience of
Christ risen and present.
Many of us, when we struggle with our faith or our belief,
can identify with Thomas. But even when our faith is in
relatively solid shape, we encounter people who are a bit
like Thomas, who won’t believe unless they are given
credible experience. We, then, are called to be witnesses.
We must also greet them with “Peace.” Our final joy is life
transformed for eternity.
The second collection this week is for Utility and Energy Costs
ANOINTING SERVICE
Today at 2:30 p.m., the Sacrament of the Sick will be administered
in our St. Joseph Basilica. Traditionally, the Sacred Heart Society
members have been available to assist with the elderly etc. in the
church. We encourage parishioners to bring their loved ones for
this special sacramental opportunity.
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
Today is Divine Mercy Sunday as
designated by His Holiness John Paul II.
Special devotions will be held this afternoon
in our Basilica at 3 p.m. and conclude the
novena which began on Good Friday. The
devotions will include singing of the chaplet
to the Divine Mercy and prayers for all our
parishioners, especially for those who have
drifted away from the Church. We invite every parishioner for this
one hour special devotion to entreat God’s mercy for our families
and ourselves.
REFLECTIONS ON OUR EASTER CELEBRATION
The Easter Triduum at Saint Joseph Basilica this year was attended
by more people than in previous years. I was pleased to see
parishioners, friends, alumni and visitors from different places who
celebrated Holy Week with us. The liturgy with meaningful
musical framework accentuated the message of Easter. Several
choirs and musicians rehearsed for weeks so our celebration would
be uplifting. I am grateful to all the members of the choirs, to our
organist, Robert Wojcik, and musicians for total dedication to St.
Joseph Basilica family. Needless to say, the elaborate decorations
added so much to the Easter solemnity.
We are grateful to Sylvia and Fred Kitka, Kevin Rekowski,
Eugene Rudnicki and all the members of the Altar Guild who spent
countless hours day and night to properly prepare the church for
this most important liturgical celebration of the year. I want to
recognize the presence of a large number of altar servers, and
various ministries who participated in these sacred days.

Patryk Kalinowski, Grade 7, is going to attend the Junior
National Young Leaders Conferencet his week. He is scheduled to
arrive in Washington, D.C. for the Conference on April 11th.
Throughout his time at the conference, information will be emailed

experience!
Alexander Gardner, Grade 8, has been accepted as a Student
Leader to the People to People World Leadership Forum which
will take place in Washington, D.C. from June 28-July 3, 2010. He
will join a select group of students to study leadership and explore
some of the United States’ most prominent monuments and
institutions. He was accepted for this honor based on outstanding
scholastic merit, civic involvement, and leadership potential.
Forumdelegates will participate in small group discussions and
exercises to experience firsthand how successful leaders develop
strategies, make decisions, build consensus, and foster change.
Congratulations, Alex! May your summer experience help you as
you enter high school in the Fall.
Pre-K. In order to best serve the youngest members of our school
community, we are expanding our Pre-K into two separate
programs in two different rooms for next year. A pre-school
program will be offered for all children turning age three by
September. This program will focus on the social and emotional
development of the young child. Daily curriculum will include
religion, circle time, math, science centers, music, art and themebased exploration and learning. In a playful and structured
atmosphere the children will develop social skills which will well
prepare them for the next level of education.
A pre-K program will be offered for all children turning age
four by September. This program will focus on the social,
emotional and academic readiness skills essential for success in
Kindergarten. Daily curriculum will include religion, reading,
language, math, science, social studies and many theme-based
activities/projects. Homework will also be included.
Both programs are offered for 2/3/5 day options. All children
must be fully potty-trained to enter.
The number of new registrations indicate the popularity of the
program and yet we want to keep the classes small enough to
ensure quality education. Interested persons should apply at their
earliest convenience.

CATHOLIC FREE PRESS
Reminder: You still can submit your new or renewal subscription
to the Catholic Free Press. This is the only diocesan Catholic
newspaper which provides information well-balanced, and factual
about the life of the Church in our country and important events
which are of benefit to us. In addition, every subscription is a
tremendous help to the parish since we are responsible for 347
copies. We thank the 73 parishioners who have already sent in their
renewals.

PARTNERS IN CHARITY
We are pleased to report that during the 3-week long drive for the
diocesan Partners in Charity Campaign we have collected $15,205.
We still need $5,045 to meet our goal. To help the needy people of
the diocese and various charitable agencies we need to meet our
quota of $20,250. To give the opportunity to everyone to respond
to this noble cause, we have scheduled a second collection on April
25. Those who easily can afford to make a more generous donation
will gain the lasting gratitude of those whom you help. I was
hungry, imprisoned, sick and you attended to my needs.
