EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME February 27, 2011 Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you. – Isaiah 49:15 Don’t Be Anxious. People have, it seems, a natural penchant for misplaced emphasis on important things. They can easily get caught up with what they’re having for dinner or what they will wear. Often it is a tragedy that helps people to refocus on what is really important. What I shall wear is an irrelevant question when I am facing surgery or chemotherapy. In today’s Gospel Jesus tells us not to worry. He doesn’t say, “Don’t eat. Don’t cook. Don’t buy clothes.” He says, “Don’t worry.” Jesus asks us not to relinquish our responsibilities but to let go of our anxiety. Anxiety betrays a lack of trust and Jesus reminds us that “Your heavenly Father knows” all that you need (Matthew 6:32). The second collection this weekend is for all remaining envelopes in your budget packet Next weekend, the first Sunday of the month, is designated for the Diocesan Obligations ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT First Friday adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place after the 7 a.m. Mass on March 4, 2011 and continue throughout the day concluding at 3 p.m. with the Chaplet to the Divined Mercy and benediction. Thank you for your support. – Betty Sabaj, Special Gifts Booth, 508-943-8570 BAPTISMAL NAME In preparation for the Sacrament of Baptism for an infant, the selection of a name by the parents should be seriously reflected. The former Code of Canon Law stipulated that a name has to be Christian or a name of a virtue. The revised Code of Canon Law supports the tradition, however, it is more flexible. The chosen name should reflect the name of a saint to intercede in heaven for their child but should never be offensive to Christian sensitivity. Children should familiarize themselves with the name of the saint they were privileged and honored to carry.
