SHARING OUR BLESSINGS - February 13, 2011
Weekly $5852.91(incl. $393.91 in loose money); Fuel $546 (incl.
$99 in loose money). Your sharing this week is exceptional! Thank
you and God bless you.
Stewardship Note. “Should anyone press you into service for one
mile, go for two miles.” (Matthew 5:41). Today Our Lord clearly
challenges us to go the extra mile in our service. We are invited to
participate more fully in the work of the Church. In this busy world
that is not an easy challenge to accept. Yet, our response can
become easier and clearer for us when we take the time every day
to simply ask, “Lord, what do you want me to do with all the gifts
You have given me? How would You like me to become more
fully involved in the life of Your Church?”
God Knows Best. God’s creative wisdom was at its best when
making humans. There are four holes in the head for information
to go in, and only one for it to go out. – Anon.
SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
February 20, 2011
Be holy, for I, the Lord, your God, am holy.
– Leviticus 19:2b
Foolishness. Sometimes the idea of repentance seems
old-fashioned, naive, even foolish. But if
you’re looking for real foolishness, you’ll
find it in today’s readings.
We begin with Leviticus and the
admonition. “Take no revenge and cherish
no grudge” (Leviticus 19:18). We’ve
heard that message before, of course, so
we might forget how far it is from the so-called practical
realities of life.” Saint Paul warns us about being practical,
though. Whoever considers oneself wise had better “become a
fool,” because “the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the
eyes of God” (1 Corinthians 3:18, 19).
This “foolishness continues in the Gospel: “Offer no resistance
to one who is evil” (Matthew 5:30). In fact, offer the other
cheek when you’ve been slapped. Hand over your coat as well
as your shirt. Be like God, who sends sunshine and rain on the
bad as well as the good. “So be perfect,” says Jesus, “just as
your heavenly Father is perfect” (5:48).

FEAST OF THE CHAIR OF ST. PETER-Day of Indulgence
On Tuesday, February 22nd, we observe the
feast of the Chair of St. Peter. This day
signifies the primacy and authority of Peter
given to him and his successors by Jesus. On
this day we have the opportunity and
privilege to obtain a plenary or partial
indulgence granted by the Holy Father to our
Basilica. A plenary indulgence may be
obtained by visiting the Basilica, receiving Holy Communion
(Confession if necessary) and reciting a prayer in the intention of
the Holy Father. It may be offered only once for a living person or
a soul in Purgatory. A partial indulgence may be received as many
times as you fulfill the above obligations.
DONATIONS
St. Joseph Basilica. With deep appreciation we acknowledge the
$1000 donation given by Walter F. Biadasz of Vero Beach FL in
memory of his parents Wojciech Biadasz and Julianna
Andrzejewska Biadasz. Although Walter’s parents died in 1968
and 1973 respectively, it is heartwarming that he honors them with
a donation to his family church. Thank you, Walter, for your
kindness and may God bless you.

30 Hour Famine. Youths in grades 9-12 (and their parents) are
invited to participate in a 30 hour famine March 25-26 at St. Louis

CAN’T GET OUT TO MASS? If you are homebound or caring
for someone at home and don’t want to miss Mass, tune in to
WCTR TV3 on Monday through Friday at 9 am for Daily Mass
LIVE from the Chapel at the Cathedral of St. Paul or Sunday at 6
pm for delayed broadcast of the 10:15 Mass. Many priests from
around our diocese volunteer to say Mass each month to help those
who cannot attend.
CATHOLIC FREE PRESS
Sixty years ago the Catholic Free Press began reporting the news
of the diocese, the nation and the world. Today we are still going
strong and adding new media to provide daily nourishment. We
offer not only the newspaper, but a weekly emailed report and a
website where national and international news is updated daily by
the Catholic News Service. The CFP also communicates on
Facebook and Twitter.
Now, more than ever, we need to continue reaching out to our
Catholic families with the Gospel message. Pope Benedict XVI
says in his World Communications Day message that new media
has opened new “spiritual horizons.” And we intend to use them.
Each year at this time we ask the parishes to renew their
commitment to support the Catholic Free Press. Your financial
support not only helps to fund the newspaper itself, but it helps
disseminate the news in these other forms of new media as well.
Please consider submitting the green envelope in your budget
packet to renew your subscription or become a new subscriber. The
cost of $23 per year for this weekly publication is the least
expensive publication on the market today. Thank you for your
support.
MASS FOR LIFE
Save the date! The annual Mass for Life will be celebrated by

back on your feet? If so, you’re not alone. Many people in
Massachusetts have used up their unemployment benefits. The

to help you put food on the table. Call Project Bread’s Food Source

SCHOOL NEWS
St. Joseph School Webster Community Service Project “We
Love Your Smile.” As part of the Saint Joseph School Catholic
Schools Week celebration, the students took part in a Community
Service Project providing dental supplies to the South County
Pediatric Center for distribution to their patients during the month
of February, also known as “Dental Health Month.”
Working with their buddy-class, each student from Pre-K through
Grade 8 made a heart-shaped container, each holding a toothbrush,
toothpaste or dental floss. On each heart were the words: “We Love
Your Smile.” What better day than Valentine’s Day for members
of the Student Council and Mrs. Donna Recko, Project
Coordinator, to present these gifts to the Pediatric Center!

AN AFTERNOON OF OUTDOOR SNOW PLAY
On Tuesday, February 15th, at the close of school sessions, the
Children’s Choir (English and Polish), Altar Servers, and Children of
Mary had the opportunity to participate in a winter outing which
included sleigh rides drawn by horses, sliding on the hills, making
s’mores and enjoying hot chocolate at the rambling farm in Thompson
CT. The large crowd of children enjoyed the bus ride, the camp fire, the
animals and the country environment. Several parents came along as
chaperones, and, of course, the children enjoyed the company of Father
Gregory and Msgr. Tony!
AN EVENING WITH G. K. CHESTERTON
This special presentation will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 7
p.m. at Assumption College. English essayist and convert, G. K.
Chesterton (1874-1936), is back in the United States for the first time
since 1930. Come hear him talk on any number of topics. It might be
Darwinism...or feminism...or capitalism...or none of the above. He
hasn’t told us for sure. Besides, he can be quite forgetful. But he has
made this serious promise: He will defend the Faith, and he will be very
funny. Come hear him fulfill both promises.
CHECK THE ENTRANCES TO THE BASILICA FOR THE EAGLE!
The winter edition of the St. Joseph School Newsletter “Eagle” is
now available at the entrances to the Basilica. It is full of information
about the students, their activities, the faculty, the curriculum and
interesting photos. Feel free to pick one up as you leave the church.

Uwaga. "Zmusza ci“ kto, óeby iу z nim tysic kroków, idï dwa

Bdïcie Ñwi“tymi, bo Ja jestem Ñwi“ty, Pan, Bóg wasz! (Kap 19, 2 b)
Niedorzecznoу. Czasami idea pokuty wydaje si“ staromodna, naiwna,
a nawet g»upia. Ale jeÑli szukasz przyk»adów prawdziwej g»upoty,
moóesz je znaleïƒ w tekstach dzisiejszych czyta½.
Zacznijmy od Ksi“gi Kap»a½skiej i zawartego w niej napomnienia. "
Nie b“dziesz szuka» pomsty, nie b“dziesz óywi» urazy do synów twego
ludu " (Kap 19,18). S»yszeliÑmy oczywiÑcie to wezwanie, wi“c »atwo

Boga" (1 Kor 3, 18-19).
Czytamy równieó w Ewangelii: "Nie stawiajcie oporu z»emu"(Mt 5,39).
Lecz jeÑli ci“ kto uderzy w prawy policzek, nadstaw mu i drugi! Temu,
kto chce prawowaƒ si“ z tob i wziƒ twoj szat“, odstp i p»aszcz!
