Thank you for supporting your own parish. The actual budget for the weekly collection is $7500. We are working with the diocesan consultant to find ways to streamline the financial operation of the parish. Stewardship Note. “Where I am going you know the way.” (John 14:4) It is often said that stewardship is a way of life. /Stewardship is certainly the way that Jesus taught us to live. However, like us, the Apostles seemed to want Jesus to tell them an easier way to get to heaven. But Jesus told them that they knew what they must do. We all know what we must do. We must do the work of the Lord with our time, our talent and our treasure. FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER - May 22, 2011 “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6 Vocation. Roman Catholics in the United States spend a good deal of time speaking of “vocation” and the manner in which each of us discerns our vocation for life. In today’s apostolic letter, however, Peter gives us the “cornerstone” of our vocation, the description of what each of us is called to first and foremost by our baptism. He describes our vocation as “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of (God’s) own, so that you may announce the praises” of Christ, who called us out of darkness into light (1 Peter 2:9). All of us, no matter what path our life’s vocation may take us down, have been chosen by God, made holy, and anointed as priests in the high priesthood of Christ through baptism. All of this, so that we may announce the praises of Christ. Vocation is given for proclamation at home, in the workplace–wherever life takes us–in service, in word, and in sacrament. The second collection this weekend is for the remaining envelopes in your budget packet REFLECTION ON THE FORTY HOURS I want to thank all those who attended the Forty Hour devotions in our parish. Each evening celebration offered a different opportunity to reflect on the meaning of the Eucharist in the life of the individual and the parish. I owe a special gratitude to the organist and choirs for the impressive liturgical music and singing, to the parish organizations, Children of Mary and the altar servers. I am grateful to those faithful parishioners and school children who kept the vigil during the three Eucharistic days. There was a large number of priests who attended the devotions and they truly experienced the hospitality of the parish and made favorable comments about the liturgical celebration. What was missing were the parishioners. It would seem that with the inclement weather more people would have come to take part in the services. Are we so engrossed in the social aspect of life that we could not sacrifice some time for the Lord? Are we growing spiritually in faith in the Eucharist? DAMAGE AT ST. JOSEPH CEMETERY On Monday, May 16, a section of the cemetery wall and fence was demolished by a teenage driver. Fortunately, the car was insured and therefore his insurance company will be responsible for the repair expenses. We would like to restore the wall before Memorial Day. Also, we will begin the work on the main gate which was damaged several months ago so it would be ready for Memorial Day. The rainy season slowed down the work at the cemetery, especially the grass cutting. The several graves that need attention will be addressed in the next few days. I appreciate your patience Extremes. If you wish to go to extremes, let it be in sweetness, patience, humility, and charity. – St. Philip Neri Page 3 22 May 2011 - 22 maj 2011 r. MEMORIAL DAY On Monday, May 30, the nation will observe Memorial Day. This day is not a time for celebration, but rather, a solemn day of commemoration; a day set aside to honor the memory of our dead, especially our service men and women who paid the Supreme Sacrifice defending the freedoms that we all enjoy. Th Veterans will arrive at St. Joseph Garden of Peace at 9:55 a.m. and the faithful are requested to assemble at the cross a few minutes prior to that time to welcome them and begin the brief prayer service. PARISH JUBILEE The 125th anniversary of the establishment of the parish community is almost at our doorsteps. This is the first PolishAmerican parish in New England that will be celebrating this significant milestone in the life of our parish family and therefore the preparations, programs, and activities should be carefully planned. The Parish Council touched on the issue on a couple of occasions and it was understood that there will be many events throughout the year culminating with a banquet which will be held on October 6, 2012. The first event of the Jubilee Year will be the blessing of the statue of John Paul II on Sunday afternoon on October 2, 2011. To address so many details of the Jubilee Year there is a need for a dedicated committee to cooperate with the Parish Administration and Parish Council and coordinate the activities for the year. I am pleased to announced that the chairperson will be Cindi Gardner, co-chair Bernadetta Rogalska, supported by the following members: David Zdrok, Lisa Sabacinski, Sylvia Kitka, Anthony Kusek, Jill Manak, Marlene Proulx. The committee should be diversified to address all age groups and organizations and therefore a few more members will be added. The first meeting of a full committee will be held in June. I would appreciate any suggestions from the people concerning our celebrations. It is my hope that the jubilee year will be a turning point in defining our parish ethos, who we are, what are our goals and how we are going to accomplish them. There are several issues that the Parish Council suggested we address before the Jubilee Year. Many were already discussed in previous bulletins and described in the letter to the parishioners of February 10, 2011. We should begin with the entrance to the church, stairs etc. after the festival. We are grateful for the support of the people who already made contributions. Some parishioners suggested that it would be better to have envelopes so they would have the convenience to budget their payments. At the suggestion of the Parish Council, we will include a jubilee envelope into the budget packet for one year as was initially stated. Student Assistance for the balance of Academic Year 2010/2011. Student “A” who studied at St. Joseph School for several years is in a dire need for financial help due to family disruptions, difficulties and loss of employment to continue his education in our school for the balance of the academic year 2010/2011. The student would need $750 to get him out of this deep and temporary situation. If anybody would be able to assist him please contact the rectory. Student “B”, presently enrolled in St. Joseph School, may not be able to continue his education because of family finances. The student has great personal educational abilities and wants to continue his educational career at St. Joseph School. We greatly would appreciate a generous person to sponsor ½ of his tuition, $1600. I hope we will find a way to help these students without disrupting their education. DONATIONS St. Joseph Basilica.
