Stewardship Note: “This is my commandment: love one another
as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s
life for one’s friends” (John 15:12-13) Do you love Jesus? Do you
consider Him your friend? Jesus says that if we love Him we
should be willing to offer whatever we have to Him, not because
we want praise and glory, but simply because we love Him.

SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
May 17, 2009
It was not you who chose
me, but I who chose you and
appointed you to go and
bear fruit.
– John 15:16
Love One Another. In the Gospel for today we are met
with an extraordinary challenge: Jesus commands us to
“love one another as I loved you.” Of course, we are to love
those in our family, those we work with, those we like. But
the scriptures make clear that we are also to love those we
never notice, those we purposely avoid, and even those we
are tempted to despise.
WELCOME TO THE HOLY ROSARY SODALITY
Congratulations to the new members who will be installed at the
8:15 am Mass this morning. At the entrance to the church there are
CD’s ($8) about the prayer of the rosary which could be helpful for
everyone especially for those who will take part in the exchange of
the mysteries of the rosary.
FORTY HOURS DEVOTION
This weekend we begin the Forty Hours Eucharistic days with the
exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after the 11 am Mass.
Adoration will continue to 4 pm when we will participate in the
Stearns Vespers. On Monday the exposition of the Blessed
Sacrament will take place after the 6:30 am Mass with adoration all
day until the 7 pm devotional service. This day is dedicated to the
youth and ministries of our parish. Please encourage the teenagers
to come. The devotional service will consist of the testimony of
faith of teenagers as moments of adoration.
On Tuesday
exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after the 6:30 am Mass,
adoration all day ending at 7 pm with the Litany to All Saints and
solemn procession. We kindly ask the First Communion class
dressed in their finery, all the organizations with their emblems and
banners, and Parish Council to take part in the outdoor procession.
Confessions will be available following the devotions on Sunday
and Monday. I ask the parish members to come to church during
the day and spend some time before the Blessed Sacrament.
ASCENSION OF THE LORD
On Thursday we will celebrate the Ascension of the Lord into
heaven. Everyone should joyfully participate in divine worship on
this special day not only because it is an obligation but also
because the event itself involves our life and our destiny. Schedule
of Masses is listed elsewhere.
MAY DEVOTIONS
Saint Joseph Basilica offers a variety of devotional opportunities
during the liturgical year. For several hundreds of years the month
of May has been dedicated to the Blessed Mother. It is an excellent
opportunity to obtain God’s graces through her intercession by
participating in the singing of the beautiful litany to the Blessed
Mother. On Sunday the litany is prayed after the 11 am Mass,
Monday at 7 pm in English and on Friday at 7 pm in Polish. On
Wednesdays (6:30 pm) and Sundays (2 pm) bilingual Marian
devotions will be prayed at St. Andrew Bobola Church.
Correction: The flowers in front of the Blessed Mother altar for
Our Lady of Fatima have been donated in memory of Lucy A.
Malboeuf by her son Roland.

SCHOOL GYM UPDATE
The Steering Committee of the Gym and Parish Center is
working diligently to set the strategy of action for the coming
months in preparation for the groundbreaking. Every parishioner is
strongly urged to volunteer to serve on any of the various
committees. Forms are placed in the pews and vestibule of the
church. We request that you take one home and return it listing on
which committee you would like to serve. At the same time, we are
searching for names of the alumni and we encourage you to
forward the name, address and telephone number of anyone you
may know to the rectory. Your enthusiasm, help and undivided
support is crucial and very much needed for this project. The
Steering Committee will review the names and contact you
regarding your choice. I am pleased that some individuals in the
neighborhood have stepped forward offering their services.
Our Financial Campaign which is crucial for the project, although
in its infancy, has a substantial amount of money already collected.
PARTNERS IN CHARITY
For the first time in years we have not met our assigned quota. It
is our hope that those who have not donated would reconsider to
make up the shortage of approximately $900. We will officially
close the drive next weekend. We are hopeful that we will be listed
among the other parishes who have been successful in their drive.
Thank you to all who have so generously donated to this
charitable diocesan drive, some giving a second time in response
to our appeal.

SCHOOL NEWS
Poetry Contest Results. Congratulations to St. Joseph School’s
published poets! Students in Mrs. Lefebvre’s Grade 6, 7, and 8
Language Arts classes recently entered their original poems in
Creative Communications’ spring poetry contest which are judged
by poets, writers, and educators in elementary, secondary, and
higher education. Poems are selected on their literary merit,
creativity, or social significance.
Twenty-three students will have their poetry published in the
Spring 2009 edition of A Celebration of Young Poets. St. Joseph
School will be recognized in the anthology for receiving a “Poetic
Achievement Award.” This honor is given to the top 10% of the
schools that entered the contest and whose students’ entries to the
Young Poets Contest are of exceptionally high merit. This is the
eighth consecutive Poetic Achievement Award that St. Joseph

Labels. Thank you to the entire St. Joseph Basilica and School
Community for your continued efforts to ensure the success of our
school. The Box Tops, Campbell Soup Labels and Price Chopper
Tools for Schools programs have been very successful this year.
The Box Tops Campaign, which is an ongoing program
throughout the year, has brought in over $500 for the school this
year. In addition, the points earned from Campbell Soups Labels
have allowed us to purchase many different items for the
classrooms as well as playground equipment such as balls and
sidewalk chalk. Please keep those labels and Box Tops coming.
You can send them to the school or drop them in the basket with
your weekly envelopes. The Tools for Schools program has ended
for this academic year but will start up again in September.
Through your grocery dollars, our status was in the top 100 schools
category, and earned SJS a portable PA system, valued at over
$600. In addition, supplies for the classroom such as Math games,
World and US maps, History Bingo, Science timers and outside
playground items were obtained. Be sure to register your Price

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
SZÓSTA NIEDZIELA WIELKANOCNA
Dobiega końca okres wielkanocny w liturgii Kościoła. Dzisiaj już
szósta niedziela wielkanocna, najbliższa niedziela zaś to
uroczystość Zesłania Ducha Świętego. Liturgia Słowa dzisiejszej
niedzieli mówi dużo miłości. Św. Jan w drugim czytaniu uczy, że
Bóg pierwszy nas umiłował i zachęca, abyśmy miłowali się
nawzajem, „bo miłość jest z Boga”. W ewangelii Chrystus
do wytrwania w miłości.
pokarm. To jedna z największych tajemnic naszej wiary i dowód
miłości i niezwykłej bliskości Boga względem człowieka.
We wtorek
o godz. 7.00 p.m. uroczysta procesja z Litanią do Wszystkich
Świętych i zakończenie nabożeństwa. We wtorek zapraszamy
szczególnie dzieci pierwszokomunijne, organizacje ze sztandarami,
ministrantów do udziału w procesji eucharystycznej na zakończenie
nabożeństwa.
UROCZYSTOŚĆ WNIEBOWSTĄPIENIA PAŃSKIEGO
W najbliższy czwartek, 21 maja, obchodzimy Uroczystość
Wniebowstąpienia Pańskiego. Po 40 dniach od swego
zmartwychwstania, Chrystus powrócił do Boga, ale zostawił swoim
uczniom obietnicę zesłania Duch Świętego. Msze Św. w tym dniu
będą wg porządku świątecznego. Msza św. w j. polskim o godz.
8.15 rano. Wieczorem, o godz. 7.00 Msza św. w j. polskim i
angielskim. Zachęcamy do wspólnej modlitwy.
NABOŻEŃSTWA MAJOWE
W miesiącu maju zapraszamy na nabożeństwa majowe. W języku
polskim: w niedziele bezpośrednio po Mszy św. o godz. 11.00 oraz
w piątki o godz. 7.00 wieczorem. W języku angielskim w
poniedziałki o godz. 7.00 wieczorem. W Dudley, we środy o godz.
6.30 wieczorem.
ZE SZKOŁY ŚW. JÓZEFA
Komitet budowy Sali gimnastycznej i centrum parafialnego pracuje
innych sprawach organizacyjnych. Specjalne formularze dla osób
pragnących zaangażować się w prowadzone prace zostały
umieszczone w ławkach. Trwa też zbieranie funduszy niezbędnych
do rozpoczęcia prac budowlanych. Na chwilę obecną zebrano już
pokaźną sumę pieniędzy. W tym, ostatnio ofiarę $250,000 na
utworzenie nowej pracowni „science and technology” złożył nasz
parafianin, który pragnie pozostać anonimowy.
PARTNERS IN CHARITY
Mamy
PRZYGOTOWANIA DO FESTYNU
wyjściu z kościoła wśród swoich krewnych i znajomych. Artur Hunt
godzinach 9.00 do 1.00. Nie możemy przyjąć odzieży, dużego
sprzętu AGD, telewizorów, mikrofalówek oraz klimatyzatorów.
Dziękujemy za wszelką pomoc i współpracę.
