Stewardship Note: “Children, let us love not in word or speech but in
deed and truth. (Acts: 9:31) How do we love in deed and truth? The
answer is through stewardship–giving some of our time to spend with Our
Lord in prayer, giving some of our talents to do ministry in the parish,
giving some of our financial blessings to support the work of the Church.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER - May 10, 2009
Let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.
– 1 John 3:18
Living Branches. The Gospel and second
reading for this Fifth Sunday of Easter
emphasize the need for us to remain in
Christ, and He in us. This shared life finds
expression in the image of the one vine and
many branches. We become living
branches of the vine, members of the Body
of Christ through baptism, Eucharist, and
confirmation, sacraments of sharing God’s own life. The First
Letter of John describes the fruit of this vine as active love of
neighbor: “And His commandment is this: we should believe....and
love one another” (1 John 3:23).
MOTHER’S DAY
Mother’s Day as we know it in North
America originated in the United States in
1907, but a Mother’s Day has been
celebrated by different cultures, from
Ancient Greece to Rome, to America, for
millennia. In Christian times, Mother’s
Day was a day in honor of the Virgin
Mary and the Church. In the United States
the Governor of Virginia proclaimed the
second Sunday of May as a state holiday and in 1914 President
Wilson made it a national holiday.
In our present confused society, distorted values, and spiritual
ambiguity the leadership of the mother plays a crucial role in
raising a sound family and caring society. The heart of a mother is
a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find love and
forgiveness.
All the Masses in St. Joseph Basilica are offered for mothers. Let
us remember them in our prayers, visits and support year round.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION
On Wednesday, May 13th, we will begin the monthly devotion to
Our Lady of Fatima honoring her with an outdoor candlelight
procession (weather permitting). This monthly pageant is held from
May 13th to October 13th. We invite all parishioners and friends to
join us in this public tribute to our Blessed Mother.
The flowers in front of the Blessed Mother altar for Our Lady
of Fatima have been donated in memory of Lucy A. Malboeuf by
her son Ronald.
FORTY HOURS DEVOTION
Next Sunday, May 17th, we will begin the traditional Eucharistic
days in our parish with the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
after the 11 a.m. Mass. At 4 p.m. the homily will be delivered by
Father Gabriel in Polish and Msgr. Jan. Jagudzinski in English,
followed by the singing of the inspiring Stearns Vespers. Monday
morning exposition of the Blessed Sacrament throughout the day
and at 7 p.m. a special devotional service dedicated to the youth
and various ministries of St. Joseph Basilica in the English
language only. We invite all the young people from our parish to
attend. Youth leaders will provide challenging and spiritually
uplifting reflections. On Tuesday morning exposition of the

Blessed Sacrament, adoration throughout the day and conclusion
at 7 p.m. with the Eucharistic procession. Reflections will be
provided by Father Paul Lis and Father Charles Borowski. For
Tuesday, we invite the children of the First Communion Class, all
parish organizations and the Parish Council to take part in the
services. Please organize your time so you may take part in these
devotions.
ST. JOSEPH GYM/PARISH CENTER MOVES
FORWARD
We are most grateful to a dedicated individual who
donated $250,000 to create the Technology and Science
Center in the new expansion plans of St. Joseph School.
This generous person is a parishioner who for the time
being wants to remain anonymous. We are delighted that
in the matter of only a few months we were able to generate
1.25 million dollars. We are most grateful to our generous
benefactors for their dedication and zeal for St. Joseph
School.
Several committees have been created under the leadership
of John McNally to address the advanced and outside
campaign. The detailed list of the committees and
responsibilities will be listed in next week’s bulletin.
Although we are still in the initial advanced gifts stage, the
opinion of the Committee is that no parishioner should be
deprived of the opportunity to sponsor one of the major
centers. For details, please call the rectory for a brochure.

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
PIĄTA NIEDZIELA WIELKANOCNA
„Kto trwa we mnie, ten przynosi owoc obfity” – mówi Jezus w
dzisiejszej ewangelii i porównuje siebie do winnego krzewu.
którą Bóg założył i pielęgnował z wielką miłością. Jezus
Kto trwa w Nim przynosi owoc.
swoje piękne powołanie i były ostoją najpiękniejszych i
najważniejszych wartości w swoich rodzinach. Na zakończenie
Mszy św. o godz. 11.00 dzieci ze Szkoły Języka Polskiego złożą
Mamom życzenia i przedstawią krótki program przygotowany
specjalnie na tę okazję.
NABOŻEŃSTWA MAJOWE
W miesiącu maju zapraszamy na nabożeństwa majowe. W języku
polskim: w niedziele bezpośrednio po Mszy św. o godz. 11.00 oraz
w piątki o godz. 7.00 wieczorem. W języku angielskim w
poniedziałki o godz. 7.00 wieczorem. W Dudley, we środy o godz.
6.30 wieczorem.
WSPOMNIENIE MATKI BOŻEJ FATIMSKIEJ
We środę 13 maja obchodzimy Wspomnienie Matki Bożej
Fatimskiej i zarazem rocznicę pierwszych objawień Matki Bożej w
Fatimie. Z tej okazji, o godz. 7.00 wieczorem, zapraszamy na
pierwsze w tym roku nabożeństwo ku czci Matki Bożej z Fatimy
połączone z procesją różańcową.
Pierwsze objawienie Matki Najświętszej w Fatimie miało miejsce 13
maja 1917 r. Cudowna Pani powiedziała dzieciom: "Nie bójcie się.
Jestem z Nieba. Chcę was prosić, abyście tu przychodziły co miesiąc
o tej samej porze. W październiku powiem wam, kim jestem i czego
od was pragnę. Odmawiajcie codziennie Różaniec, aby wyprosić
pokój dla świata.” Ostatnie, szóste objawienie dokonało się 13
października. Mimo deszczu i zimna w dolinie zgromadziło się 70
tys. ludzi oczekujących na cud. Cudem słońca Matka Boża
potwierdziła prawdziwość swoich objawień. Podczas tego
objawienia powiedziała: "Przyszłam upomnieć ludzkość, aby
zmieniała życie i nie zasmucała Boga ciężkimi grzechami. Niech
ludzie codziennie odmawiają Różaniec i pokutują za grzechy".
Ojciec Święty Jan Paweł II wielokrotnie podkreślał, że właśnie
opiece Matki Bożej z Fatimy zawdzięcza uratowanie życia z
zamachu dokonanego 13 maja 1981 roku na Placu Świętego Piotra
w Rzymie.
wydarzenia.
NABOŻEŃSTWO CZTERDZIESTOGODZINNE
W przyszłą niedzielę, 17 maja, po Mszy św. o godz. 11.00,
rozpoczyna się w naszej parafii Nabożeństwo Czterdziestogodzinne,
którego centrum stanowi Adoracja Eucharystyczna. Poprzez
To jedna z największych
tajemnic naszej wiary i dowód bliskości Boga względem człowieka.
7.00 p.m. We wtorek o godz. 7.00 p.m. uroczysta procesja z Litanią
do Wszystkich Świętych i zakończenie nabożeństwa. Zapraszamy
wszystkich do wzięcia udziału w tych nabożeństwach. We wtorek
zapraszamy szczególnie dzieci pierwszokomunijne, organizacje ze
sztandarami, ministrantów do udziału w procesji.
MSZA ŚW. DLA DZIECI
W przyszłą niedzielę na Mszę św. o godz. 11.00 zapraszamy
rodziców z dziećmi. Będzie to nasza miesięczna Msza św. dla dzieci
z udziałem zespołu „Bazyliszki”. Zachęcamy też do zajmowania
miejsc w pierwszych ławkach.
