THE JOURNEY OF LENT is about being born again by participating
in the death and resurrection of Jesus and about that journey
from Galilee to Jerusalem. The journey of Lent with its climax on
Good Friday and Easter, is about embarking on the way of Jesus
on that path of mortality and transformation that is at the very
center of the Christian life. When you think of it, who of us does
not yearn for this? Who of us does not yearn for a fuller
connection to life? Who does not yearn for an identity that
releases us from anxiety and self-preoccupation? May we this
Lent experience that internal transformation that is at the center
of the Christian life.
WIELKI POST to czas powtórnego, duchowego narodzenia,
poprzez uczestnictwo w męce i zmartwychwstaniu Jezusa. Wielki
Post to czas nawrócenia i pokuty. To czas zastanowienia się nad
swoim życiem w kontekście przykazań Bożych. To czas
przygotowania się do świętowania najważniejszej uroczystości
Chrześcijaństwa — Wielkanocy. To czas dobrych postanowień i
modlitwy połączonej z osobistym wysiłkiem wytrwania w nich. To
wreszcie czas odkrycia na nowo wielkiej miłości Boga, który
„swojego Syna dał, aby każdy kto w niego wierzy, nie zginął, ale
miał życie wieczne”.

SACRIFICIAL OFFERINGS - March 15, 2009

Stewardship Note: “For God so loved the world that he gave his
only Son...” (John 3:16). Of all the wonderful gifts that God has
given to us, the gift of His own Son is truly the greatest. How can
we ever thank God for such a gift? God does not ask us to sacrifice
our own precious child, but He does ask that we make some
sacrifices for Him.
A New Idea. Everybody thinks of changing humanity; nobody
thinks of changing themselves. – Leo Tolstoy
FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT
March 22, 2009
God did not send his Son into the world to
condemn the world, but that the world might be
saved through Him. – John 3:17
Communal Responsibility. The people of God
forgot the covenant and flouted God’s laws. They did
not listen to the prophets among them, who spoke for
God in warning them. Prophets are sent from God to
remind us why we are here, but they are often, even
in our own time, mocked, disregarded, and mistreated, rather than
thanked and listened to.
The book of Chronicles tells the results of these sins: the destruction
of the Temple and all of Jerusalem, murder, mayhem, and finally exile
to a foreign land. Why are these stories in the Bible? Just to inform us
of what happened to our ancient forebears? What good would that be
unless there were a message and a warning for us as well? We are
reminded by these readings that we will be judged as a people, not just
as individuals.
The second collection this weekend is to
defray the costs of the Retreat
Next weekend the second collection is in support of the Catholic
Relief Services

WHAT DO YOU READ?
Do you buy the daily newspaper? Do you subscribe to the Patriot
or the Sunday Telegram? Do you have subscriptions for various
food and home magazines? Have you subscribed to the Catholic
Free Press? Of all the above listed publications, the Catholic Free
Press is the most affordable weekly newspaper at $23 /year. It also
carries information about the life of the Church at a local, national
and international level; it features the area arts and entertainment,
publishes articles by distinguished writers such as George Weigel,
and lists social and devotional programs in the diocese.
Our parish has been assigned a quota of 347 subscriptions. Todate we have 70 renewals and 3 new subscriptions! This is below
the number we had last year–109. Please reconsider your selection
of reading material. We believe this annual fee is affordable for
most parish members. You may still submit your subscription. If
you do not have your original envelope, you may use a plain one
indicating your name and address and enclosing a check for $23.
Thank you and God bless you.

CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT VICTORY!
Last weekend the St. Joseph School Athletic Program wrapped
up its season which can be described only as its best in recent
memory. In the final Route 395 League Tournament our JV Boys
proved once again to be unstoppable as they finished with a perfect
18-0 record taking first place in the regular season as well as first
place in the League tournament.
The Varsity Boys also took first place with a victory of 60-57
over the friendly rival St. Louis School, thrilling the audience at
Southbridge High, filled to its capacity. The Cheerleading squad
of St. Joseph School nailed their final routine and placed
themselves as a strong third in the league tournament. And finally,
what may be the most important award, our school was voted by its
peers in the league as the “Most Sportsmanlike” school. This
great achievement of St. Joseph School reflects high standards of
character, strong family values, physical fitness, spirit of unity and
cooperation. The athletes do not stand alone - they are supported by
their peers, dedicated teachers, and an experienced athletic team
who dedicates time and talent for the benefit of the youth. Through
our assiduous efforts, tenacity and far-sighted vision we created
history in our school and in the region.
I want to take this occasion to congratulate our outstanding
Athletic Director, Craig Holmberg, and his energetic athletic team
for their leadership and continuous efforts in effectively shaping the
physical skills, moral character and sportsmanship of our students.
We gratefully recognize the following coaches: Varsity
Boys–Angie Siegmund, Craig Holmberg, Jeff Moberg; Varsity
Girls-Kevin Reilly, Paul Konieczny; JV Boys-Lisa Sabacinski,
Scott Konieczny, Tyler O’Leary and Ken Yash; Cheering-Jessica
Recko, Denise Marsh, Donna Recko, Lisa Mason.
Congratulations and may God Bless you abundantly!

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
CZWARTA NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU
Przeżywamy czwartą niedzielę Wielkiego Postu. Nasze
przygotowanie do obchodów liturgicznych Wielkiego Tygodnia i
Świąt Wielkanocnych osiąga półmetek. Dzisiejsza ewangelia
przypomina nam o nieskończonej miłości Boga do człowieka. Jezus
mówi do Nikodema: „Tak bowiem Bóg umiłował świat, że Syna
swego Jednorodzonego dał, aby każdy, kto w Niego wierzy, nie
zginął, ale miał życie wieczne.” Cały Wielki Post, a zwłaszcza
udział w nabożeństwach pasyjnych: Gorzkich Żalach i Drodze
Krzyżowej.
REKOLEKCJE WIELKOPOSTNE
Rozpoczynamy dzisiaj rekolekcje wielkopostne, którym

podczas Mszy św. i Gorzkich Żalów oraz we wtorek, 24 marca o
godz. 7:00 wieczorem. Zakończenie rekolekcji we środę, 25 marca
o godz. 7:00 wieczorem z nauką w j. polskim i angielskim. W
poniedziałek, 23 marca, swoją naukę rekolekcyjną będą mieli
uczniowie CCD wraz z rodzicami w godz. 5:30-6:30. Módlmy się
o światło Ducha Świętego oraz o dobre duchowe owoce rekolekcji.
WITAMY PIELGRZYMÓW
Serdecznie witamy w naszej Bazylice pielgrzymów z New Britain

drodzy Pielgrzymi i otacza Was i waszych bliskich opieką na każdy
dzień.

wyznaczonych przez Ojca Św.)
MSZA ŚW. DLA DZIECI
Raz w miesiącu, zwykle w trzecią niedziele miesiąca organizujemy
Mszę św. dla dzieci o godz. 11.00.
niedzielnej liturgii.
