THE JOURNEY OF LENT is about being born again by participating
in the death and resurrection of Jesus and about that journey
from Galilee to Jerusalem. The journey of Lent with its climax on
Good Friday and Easter, is about embarking on the way of Jesus
on that path of mortality and transformation that is at the very
center of the Christian life. When you think of it, who of us does
not yearn for this? Who of us does not yearn for a fuller
connection to life? Who does not yearn for an identity that
releases us from anxiety and self-preoccupation? May we this
Lent experience that internal transformation that is at the center
of the Christian life.
WIELKI POST to czas powtórnego, duchowego narodzenia,
poprzez uczestnictwo w męce i zmartwychwstaniu Jezusa. Wielki
Post to czas nawrócenia i pokuty. To czas zastanowienia się nad
swoim życiem w kontekście przykazań Bożych. To czas
przygotowania się do świętowania najważniejszej uroczystości
Chrześcijaństwa — Wielkanocy. To czas dobrych postanowień i
modlitwy połączonej z osobistym wysiłkiem wytrwania w nich. To

SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT
March 8, 2009
If God is for us, who can be against us?
– Romans 8:31b
The second collection this weekend is designated for the
Church in Latin America
PARISH RETREAT
The season of Spring is always associated with new life,
development and growth. Lent is the Spring season in our spiritual
life. On Saturday, March 21st until March 25th we are offering the
opportunity to participate in the Lenten retreat. The Retreat Master
is Rev. Christopher Wieliczko, former Provincial of the Pauline
Fathers in the United States with headquarters in Doylestown, PA.
Besides Sunday Mass, everyone is expected to participate in the
retreat on Monday (English), Tuesday (Polish) and Wednesday
(bilingual). We especially urge all parish ministries, and
organizations to take part in this sacred time in our parish. Please
mark your calendar and encourage your family members, friends
and neighbors to join you.
SAINT JOSEPH PARISH FESTIVAL 36
The first General Meeting of the Festival took place on Tuesday,
March 3rd at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Unfortunately, the
attendance was disappointing. The General Meeting of parishioners
and school parents is important to provide new ideas, solicit help
and create a network of mutual support in a common purpose. It is
our understanding that the small crowd was not the result of a
negative attitude, uncaring or indifference by the parishioners and
parents, but the cold weather and slippery roads hindered
attendance. About 18 people who attended enthusiastically vowed
their help and commitment to this important social, cultural and
fundraising event which has a long tradition in our parish. We
expect and hope that you will complete the festival volunteer
forms which are located at the entrance of the church or in the pews
and return them in the collection basket as soon as possible. We are
especially concerned for workers in the kitchen which are needed
for several days prior to the festival, set-up people and help after
the festival to dismantle the booths. – Eileen Fanning and John Bronzo
Special Gifts. It’s Festival time again. The Special Gifts Booth for
the St. Joseph Parish Festival is requesting donations. We will
gratefully accept cash prizes or gifts. You may bring your gift to
the rectory or place cash gifts in an envelope labeled “Special Gifts
Donation” and drop it in the church collection basket. You may
also call direct regarding your donation. Please include your name
and phone number with your gift.
The deadline for listing gifts on the raffle ticket is April 12, 2009.
Thank you for your support. – Betty Sabaj, Sp. Gifts Booth, 508-943-8570
REMINDER
Our St. Joseph Basilica Family in its attempt to re-assess the
degree of our faith, commitment to God and His Church, asked
everyone to complete commitment forms and return to the parish.
Stewardship is a spiritual development which is not a single event
but a continuous process through challenges, opportunities and
events of our life. At the beginning of our Lenten journey to Easter
Sunday which is so significant to life we want to make the next
step in our commitment to serve God and His Church. I trust that
Page 3
March 8, 2009 - 9 marzec 2009 r.
each one of us will assess all of our abilities, God’s gifts and
blessings and accordingly make our personal commitment. The
forms may be returned in the collection basket this weekend or next
Sunday.

BURNING OF THE MORTGAGE BARBECUE
This is a wonderful opportunity for the parish community to come
together and celebrate the milestone achievement of eliminating the
renovation debt. Not only are we happy that the debt was paid but
the project itself is admired by outsiders and praised by our
parishioners. I would like to bring to your attention a beautiful
pictorial article about the Basilica which is presented in the
Worcester Living Magazine bi-monthly publication for
March/April 2009 for $3.95. It is available in magazine stands in
local stores.
Any close-knit community with such an achievement when it is
paid feels a spontaneous need to get together to celebrate in a spirit
of joy and solidarity. Tickets will be sold this weekend after all
Masses. Considering the limited space in the cafeteria, seats will be
available on a first-come first-served basis.
PARTNERS IN CHARITY
On the weekend of March 15, the annual campaign for Partners in
Charity will take place at all Masses. The majority of you who
contributed last year received a letter from the bishop explaining
the use of the money and the need to continue to serve people of
need in our diocese. A great percentage of this money goes for
continuing the work of 29 charitable, educational and pastoral
agencies. The quota for our parish is $20,250. I am aware of our
economic situation and your limited resources but I hope and pray
that we could again this year meet our quota. Thank you for your
generosity and understanding.
Stewardship Note: “I know how devoted you are to God, since
you did not withhold from me your own beloved son.” (Gen.
22:12). Abraham was so devoted to God that he was willing to
sacrifice his only son. How does our own devotion compare? Do
we withhold time, talent and treasure from the God who sacrificed
His only Son for us?

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
DRUGA NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU
Ewangelia drugiej niedzieli Wielkiego Postu opowiada o
przemienieniu Jezusa na górze Tabor. Poprzedza je zapowiedź męki
i zaproszenie do naśladowania Jezusa na drodze krzyża. Krzyż i
uwielbienie są ze sobą nierozerwalnie związane. Stanowią całość, bez
której nie zrozumiemy tajemnicy Jezusa. Jezus, mając świadomość
bliskiej męki, chciał umocnić wiarę uczniów przed tymi niezwykle
trudnymi wydarzeniami. Dlatego w czasie przemienienia odsłonił
przed nimi swoje bóstwo, ukazał im część swojej chwały, aby w
godzinie próby nie zwątpili. Każda Eucharystia jest dla nas taką chwilą
przemienienia. Jezus na naszych oczach przemienia chleb w swoje
Ciało i wino w swoją Krew.
pokuty i udziału w rekolekcjach.
Gorzkie Żale – Niedziela, godz. 3.00 p.m.
Droga Krzyżowa – Piątek, godz. 1:15 z udziałem dzieci szkolnych
oraz godz. 7:00 p.m (w j. polskim).
Sakrament Pokuty: W soboty – godz. 3:00; Codziennie po Mszy św.
o godz. 6.30 rano; W niedziele przed Mszą św. o godz. 11:00.
REKOLEKCJE WIELKOPOSTNE
Zachęcamy do wzięcia udziału w dorocznych Rekolekcjach
Wielkopostnych. Rekolekcje to bardzo ważny element naszego
przygotowania się do przeżywania Wielkiego Tygodnia i Świąt
Wielkanocnych.
marca, a poprowadzi je O. Krzysztof Wieliczko, Paulin z
Amerykańskiej Częstochowy, były prowincjał Prowincji Ameryki
Północnej zakonu. Nauki rekolekcyjne w j. polskim będą głoszone
podczas Mszy św. w niedzielę 22 marca oraz we wtorek, 24 marca o
godz. 7:00 wieczorem. Zakończenie rekolekcji we środę, 25 marca o
godz. 7:00 wieczorem z nauką w j. polskim i angielskim.
zapraszamy rodziców z dziećmi i prosimy o zajmowanie miejsc w
pierwszych ławkach. Wraz z dziećmi będziemy się modlić i rozważać
Słowo Boże, a oprawę muzyczną przygotowuje, jak zwykle, zespół
Bazyliszki.
modlitwy. Może to być jedno z postanowień wiekopostnych.
JAŁMUŻNA WIELKOPOSTNA
Jałmużna jest obok modlitwy i postu jednym z najważniejszych
dobrych uczynków, o których mówi Jezus w Ewangelii a Kościół
zachęca do ich praktykowania szczególnie w Wielkim Poście.
Możliwości jest wiele. Jedną z nich jest doroczna, diecezjalna akcja
Partners in Charity.
wielkości i zamożności.
diecezjalny fundusz charytatywny – Partners in Charity.
