RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a process
established by the Church for individuals to become Catholic
and receive the Sacraments of Initiation-Baptism, Confirmation,
and the Eucharist. If you wish to become Catholic, or are a
Baptized Catholic in need of making your First Communion
and/or Confirmation, please call the Religious Education Office.
BAPTISM: On designated Sundays. Please call to make
arrangements. Parents are required to receive orientation.
MARRIAGE: Proper preparation for marriage requires one
year’s notice. Please contact the rectory for appointment.

Stewardship Note: “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to

refuge in man-made riches. Yet Thomas Merton once wrote,
“There is no poverty so great as that of the prosperous.” Too many
possessions can leave us empty - always questing for more things

FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER – May 3, 2009
See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be
called the children of God.
– 1 John 3:1
Saved by the One who was rejected. Some city teenagers often
scorn and reject farm kids. Yet it’s no exaggeration to say that
humanity owes its life to farmers who care for the world’s crops
and livestock. This week’s scriptures remind us that Jesus was as
rejected as a shepherd, a farm boy, yet we owe our very lives to
Him.
In this Sunday’s reading from the Acts of
the Apostles Peter tells the people that
salvation comes through Jesus Christ, the one
who was rejected. In John’s letter we hear
that we have become God’s beloved children
through Jesus, whom the world did not know.
Lastly, in the Gospel Jesus describes himself
as the Good Shepherd who “lays down his
life for the sheep” (John 10:11). Will you join
Jesus in laying down your life for God’s beloved flock?

DIVINE MERCY DEVOTIONS
This Sunday, May 3rd, we will pray the chaplet to the Divine
Mercy at 3 p.m. Jesus said to Sr. Faustina “Through the Chaplet
you will obtain everything, if what you ask for will be compatible
with my will.” I encourage you to come and spend an hour with
Jesus.

MAY DEVOTIONS
Crowning of the Statue of the Blessed Mother. It has been a
tradition across this land and many other
countries where the first Sunday or
Monday of May a special ceremony is
held called Crowning of the Statue of the
Blessed Mother with fresh spring flowers.
At Saint Joseph Basilica the crowning
will take place on Monday, May 4th, at 7
p.m. In this devotional ceremony the most
important role is played by the children of
the First Holy Communion Class. We request they come in their
official attire to honor the Blessed Mother and to dedicate their life
to her motherly care. We ask all the altar servers, parish
organizations, parish ministries and parishioners to take part in this
liturgical celebration. All participants should gather on the school
parking lot (in case of inclement weather gather in school) to
process to church.
Devotions. This month of devotions in the Church calendar is
characterized by special hymns and the use of flowers, which bring
nature into the church. There are several Marian feast days in May,
including Our Lady of Fatima. Devotions scheduled in our
Basilica are as follows: Sundays following the 11 a.m. Mass in
Polish (This Sunday the litany to the Blessed Mother will be prayed
together with the Divine Mercy Devotions at 3 p.m.); Mondays at
7 p.m. in English, Fridays at 7 p.m. in Polish. On Wednesdays
(6:30 pm and Sundays (2 pm) bilingual Marian devotions will be
prayed at St. Andrew Bobola Church in Dudley. On Wednesday,
May 13th, the candlelight procession to honor Our Lady of Fatima,
will take place at 7 p.m.
SCHOOL NEWS
All School HSA Meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 6th, at
6:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria. The highlight of the meeting is the
presentation of the architectural design of the Gym and Parish
Center by Gorman Richardson, our architectural firm. I encourage
and ask every parent, Parish Council members, Consultative
Education Board and Finance Board to be present at this meeting.
It is an occasion to get acquainted with the detailed layout of the
various components of the new center. This is the only time when
we will publicly detail information on this educational project.
POLISH ALLIANCE YOUTH CAMP
The Polish National Alliance operates a campground, called
Camp Stanica, every summer in July for children ages 6-13 in

FORTY HOURS DEVOTIONS
Traditionally, in the third week of May, Saint Joseph Basilica has
the privilege to celebrate the Eucharistic Days called Forty Hours
Devotion. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament gains new impetus
after Easter Sunday celebration. Therefore, the Polish American
parishes, similar to other cultural parishes, schedule their
celebrations after Easter Sunday and continue until the Advent
season. Preference usually was given to the oldest parish in the
area to be the first to celebrate these devotions. All the priests of
the regional Polish-American parishes were expected to attend
these Eucharistic days to assist with confessions and enjoy mutual
company.
The Basilica Forty Hour devotions will begin on Sunday, May
17. Please reserve Sunday afternoon, and Monday and Tuesday
evenings for this celebration. Monday is in English and we invite
all the youth and English speaking parishioners to attend the
Monday services.

Film Next Youth Skit - For anyone interested in participating in the
next Youth Mass skit, we will meet at Mrs. Valcour’s home (122
Sutton Rd. Webster) on Saturday, May 9th from 9 am-noon. New
“actors” are always welcome! Please notify Mrs. Vacour if interested.
Dinner & Game Nights at the Youth Center. We will have taco
dinners and game nights (Wiffle Ball if weather is nice) at the Youth
Center. Jr. Youth Group Taco Night- Wed. May 13th and Sr. Youth
Group Taco Night- Wed. May 20th. Come early (5:30 pm) to help prepare
the dinner or arrive just in time to eat at 6 pm. To help offset the cost of

PARTNERS IN CHARITY
We are pleased to report that the second collection last weekend
for Partners in Charity came to $1970, and together with the
donations sent directly to the diocese we now have reached the
sum of $18,948. Our sincere thank you to all who have donated,
and especially to those who made an additional donation. To
successfully reach our goal, we still need an additional $1302. If
you have not sent in your contribution, you still have the
opportunity to do so this week.

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
CZWARTA NIEDZIELA WIELKANOCNA
Ewangelia czwartej niedzieli wielkanocnej ukazuje Jezusa jako
Dobrego Pasterza. W starożytności, królów i przywódców narodu,
zwykło się określać mianem „pasterzy”. Dobrym pasterzem dla
Izraela i wszystkich narodów jest Jezus, który z miłości do swoich
owiec ofiarował swoje życie. Jezus pragnął też, aby jego
owczarnia była jednością w wierze i miłości. Módlmy się dzisiaj,
aby chrześcijanie dążyli do jedności wiary, a pasterze Kościoła
naśladowali Jezusa Dobrego Pasterza, który dla swoich owiec żył,
pracował i cierpiał.
UROCZYSTOŚĆ MATKI BOŻEJ KRÓLOWEJ POLSKI
Dzisiaj Kościół w Polsce i Polonia na całym świecie obchodzi
Uroczystość Matki Bożej Królowej Polski i rocznicę uchwalenia
Konstytucji 3 Maja. W dniu 1 kwietnia 1656 roku w katedrze
lwowskiej przed cudownym obrazem Matki Bożej Łaskawej Król
Polski Jan Kazimierz obrał Maryję za Królową swoich państw, a
Królestwo Polskie polecił jej szczególnej obronie. W czasie
podniesienia król zszedł z tronu, złożył berło i koronę, i padł na
kolana przed wielkim ołtarzem. Zaczynając od słów: "Wielka
Boga-Człowieka Matko, Najświętsza Dziewico" ogłosił Matkę
Bożą szczególną Patronką Królestwa Polskiego. Przyrzekł szerzyć
Jej cześć, ślubował wystarać się u Stolicy Apostolskiej o
pozwolenie na obchodzenie Jej święta jako Królowej Korony
Polskiej, zająć się losem ciemiężonych pańszczyzną chłopów i
zaprowadzić w kraju sprawiedliwość społeczną. Po Mszy świętej,
w czasie której król przyjął również Komunię świętą z rąk nuncjusza
papieskiego, odśpiewano Litanię do Najświętszej Maryi Panny, a
przedstawiciel papieża odśpiewał trzy razy, entuzjastycznie
powtórzone przez wszystkich obecnych nowe wezwanie: "Królowo
Korony Polskiej, módl się za nami".
Choć ślubowanie Jana Kazimierza odbyło się przed obrazem Matki
Bożej Łaskawej we Lwowie, to jednak szybko przyjęło się
przekonanie, że najlepszym typem obrazu Królowej Polski jest obraz
Pani Częstochowskiej. Koronacja obrazu papieskimi koronami 8
września 1717 roku ugruntowała przekonanie o królewskości Maryi.
Przeżywając dzisiejsze święto, dziękujemy Bogu przez Maryję za
wolną Ojczyznę i prosimy o mądrość dla rządzących, a dla
wszystkich Polaków w kraju i za granicą o opiekę Maryi i
Błogosławieństwo Boże.
PIERWSZA KOMUNIA ŚW.
Dzisiaj, podczas specjalnej Mszy św. o godz. 12:15, dzieci klasy II
Szkoły św. Józefa oraz z programu CCD przystąpią po raz pierwszy
do Komunii Świętej. Są to: Patrick Denert, Katrina Duby, Robert
Fanning, Vito Fasulo, Kristian Gruszecki, Hannah Iozzo, Catherine
Jones, Kelly Knutelski, Alexander Kopec, Nicole Kulpa, Bartosz

Alexandra Sobczak, Alicja Stachowicz, Justyn Sudyka, Miranda
Tremblay, Dominik Ucher, Łukasz Wiśniewski. To wielkie
wydarzenie w ich życiu. To również wielkie przeżycie dla rodziców
i bliskich. Módlmy się w intencji dzieci, aby zawsze z wiarą i
miłością przyjmowały Jezusa do swoich serc. Módlmy się także w
intencji ich bliskich, aby przykładem swojego życia pomagały
dzieciom wzrastać w wierze i miłości.
NOWENNA DO MIŁOSIERDZIA BOŻEGO
Dzisiaj po południu o godz. 3.00 zapraszamy na nasze comiesięczne
nabożeństwo do Miłosierdzia Bożego. W połączeniu z modlitwami
nowenny odmówimy Litanię do Matki Bożej. W pozostałe niedziele
maja Litanię do Matki Bożej będziemy odmawiać bezpośrednio po
Mszy Św. o godz. 11:00.
NABOŻEŃSTWA MAJOWE
Miesiąc maj bardzo często kojarzy nam się z nabożeństwami
majowymi. W polskiej pobożności mają one piękną tradycję. Wielu
ludzi bierze w nich udział w kościołach, często też są organizowane
spontanicznie przy wiejskich kapliczkach Matki Bożej. W naszej
Bazylice „Majówki” są w poniedziałki o godz. 7.00 p.m. w j.
angielskim. Natomiast w j. polskim są w piątki o 7.00 p.m. oraz w
niedziele po Mszy św. o godz. 11.00. Serdecznie zapraszamy do
udziału i wspólnej modlitwy.
NABOŻEŃSTWO CZTERDZIESTOGODZINNE
Tradycyjnie, w trzecią niedzielę maja rozpoczyna się w naszej parafii
Nabożeństwo Czterdziestogodzinne. Jego treścią jest przede
wszystkim całodniowa Adoracja Najświętszego Sakramentu,
zakończona każdego dnia wieczorem uroczystym nabożeństwem. W
niedzielę 17 maja na zakończenie adoracji o godz. 4:00 po południu
będą uroczyste nieszpory. W poniedziałek 18 maja nabożeństwo w j.
angielskim, we wtorek 19 maja, o godz. 7:00 zakończenie
nabożeństwa w j. polskim. Już teraz prosimy o zarezerwowanie sobie
czasu i wzięcie udziału w tym dorocznym nabożeństwie. Niech nasza
obecność będzie wyrazem wiary w obecność Jezusa w Eucharystii i
wyrazem wdzięczności za Jego łaski.
PARTNERS IN CHARITY
Druga składka na tacę z ostatniej niedzieli na ten cel przyniosła
$1970. Dziękujemy za wszystkie ofiary. Do osiągnięcia naszego celu
brakuje nam jeszcze $1302. Jeżeli ktoś pragnie jeszcze złożyć swoją
ofiarę na ten cel, to można to uczynić w każdej chwili.
