Obligations $148, Fuel $531 (incl. $114 in loose money)
Stewardship Note. "Each day the people are to go out and gather
their daily portion; thus will I test them, to see whether they follow
my instructions or not. (Exodus 16:4) God frowns upon it when
we take or keep more than we need. When the Israelites gathered
more than their daily portion of manna, that which they hoarded
away became wormy and rotten. In the same way, God calls us
today to be content with a fair portion and to be willing to share the
rest. "Nobody was ever rewarded for receiving gifts but only for
giving away. "- Calvin Coolidge
Word of Life. One thing is certain: When the time has come, nothing
which is man-made will subsist. One day, all human accomplishments will
be reduced to a pile of ashes. But every single child to whom a woman has
given birth will live forever, for he has been given an immortal soul made
to God's image and likeness. - Alice von Hildebrand

EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Do not work for food that perishes

—John 6:27a
God's Work. We are so busy! Most
of us have more than one job to do,
and we never seem to have enough time. We are workers,
volunteers, parents, friends, and most of us are more than one thing
at a time. But which of these is the work of God?
We seldom view our ordinary work as being the work of God. We
may think that we have to be ministers or priests, missionaries or
charity workers, engaged full-time in works formally identified as
being "God's work." But everything we do with a faithful heart and
with love for others is God's work. We each have our own role to
fill in the world, and many gifts are necessary. We cannot always
see the direct connection of our daily work to the plan of God. But
we trust and we believe that God leads us to do what is needed,
where it is needed. What is "God's work?" "This is the work of
God, that you believe in the one he sent" (John 6:29).
FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION
A brief adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place after
the 7 a.m. Mass on Friday, August 7th, praying the Chaplet to the
Divine Mercy and benediction. The evening Mass will be
celebrated at 7 in Polish, as scheduled. We invite the parishioners,
especially the Sacred Heart Society, to attend these devotions.
CEMETERY NEWS
Many places on the cemetery grounds were infested with grubs
creating bald spots in the lawn. Several years ago we treated the
entire cemetery with anti-grub pesticides by a professional
company at a considerable cost. Last week we repeated the same
treatment to preserve the green grass on the grounds of the
cemetery.
AID TO THE CHURCH IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE
The world of Central and Eastern Europe needs our help. Church
buildings, destroyed or used for secular purposes, must be rebuilt.
Catechetical centers to educate the faithful and prepare the young
for the sacraments must be re-established. Clergy, religious, and the
laity must be trained in the teaching of the Second Vatican Council.
Bishop McManus writes .. The Church in Central and Eastern
....

Europe must be built anew. Your assistance is necessary to help the
Church identify its most pressing needs and take steps to assure
that our faith will be passed on... .1 ask that you keep the people of
Central and Eastern Europe in your prayers, and that we join our
fellow Catholics in the United States in making a generous
contribution to nourish the faith in this part of Europe."
The second collection in our parish will be taken for this purpose
on the weekend of August 22/23, 2009.
DEVOTIONS TO THE DIVINE MERCY
Each first Sunday of the month we pray to the Divine Mercy for
special favors and graces we need in our daily life. Today at 3 p.m.
we will pray the chaplet to the Divine Mercy followed by brief
adoration and benediction.
CHURCH ALARM SYSTEM
I am pleased to report that the new alarm system has been
installed in the church. It has the capability to automatically call the
central station in case of a fire condition as well as monitoring for
problems like low battery or phone problems. It even calls on a
daily basis to the central station in New York to report that
everything is all right or if there is a problem. The Fire Department
has been contacted for inspections.
Although the system is operational it is not totally completed.
There are several detection devices within the church which either
do not respond to the latest technology and requirements of the fire
code or have to be relocated to determine the exact place of
trouble. Protection Technologies Company with whom we
contracted to do this project is currently working on resolving this
situation.
immediately following Mass, "Illuminate"will be a part of a 24
hour adoration session. From 6-8 pm on that Saturday night, we
will provide meditative music and a reflection on the Eucharist.

Residents. The Youth Group participated in an afternoon Wii
Bowling contest with the Residents of Christopher Heights in July.
It was such a big success, we are going to form a bowling league
and compete with the residents on a monthly basis. If you are
interested in participating, please contact Mrs. Valcour for more
information.
Save the Date - SO's Family Musical. The Youth Group has been
working hard all summer long on a 50's musical called "Rock
Around the Block." Performances will be held Friday August 21
at 7 pm and Sunday August 23 at 2 pm. Tickets are $5 and free
for children 5 and under. The play will be held in the auditorium at
Immaculate Conception Spiritual Renewal Center in Putnam CT.

intersection of Rte 44 and 21 and North on Rte 21.)
St. Anne Society annual members' Mass and meeting took place
last Sunday. Retiring President Loretta Kwasniewski was honored
at Mass for her many years of dedicated leadership and service to
St. Anne Society and to our parish. A floral bouquet was presented
to Loretta with deepest gratitude and best wishes from Monsignor
Czarnecki and members of the Society. A coffee social and meeting
followed in the school. It was the unanimous decision of the
attending members that the spiritual organization of St. Anne
Society will continue in our parish.
St. Anne is the patroness of mothers, grandmothers and the family
and her intercession is needed to provide for our families
spirituality, leadership and stability. Mrs. Genevieve Lariviere was
elected President and a new executive board will be formed.
Refreshments were served courtesy of Anna Kudron and husband
Ed. We kindly ask for the continued support of our members during
this transitional period. - Organizing Committee

Last week the diocesan representative visited the Basilica and
provided recommendations on the scope of work including the
drainage, sidewalks, materials. In a couple of days the landscaping
engineer will provide an opinion on a common approach to address
the water issues around the church as well as the walkways, stairs
in front of the church etc.
In reviewing the rectory, the diocesan representative made a
strong recommendation for security reasons to replace the moved
