Stewardship Message. "Giving until it hurts" isn't an accurate measure of generosity because some people are more easily hurt than others. Most people consider themselves to be generous. But true generosity requires more than just plunking a few coins into the Salvation Army bucket at Christmastime. Ask yourself these questions: 1) Do I have the proper attitude? God wants you to be a cheerful giver (2 Cor. 9:7). How much you give away is irrelevant if your motive isn't right. 2) Is my generosity productive? A contribution to "Citizens Against Speed Bumps" may be tax deductible, but is it a worthy investment of God's resources? Your giving should make a difference in the lives of people in need. Let God lead your decisions for where and how much to give. I —2 Corinthians 12:9 FOR, : Obstacles. The prophet Ezekiel, Saint Paul, and the Lord Jesus share something in common in today's scripture readings. They all experience obstacles to their ministry. Ezekiel is summoned to prophesy to the Israelites, who are "Hard of face and obstinate of heart" (Ezekiel 2:4). Saint Paul recounts how he has been given a "thorn in the flesh" (2 Corinthians 12:7). The Lord Jesus is unable to perform many signs in his native place. The Gospel tells us that "(He) was amazed at their lack of faith" (Mark 6:6). We, too, sometimes encounter obstacles as we travel along the journey of faith. So often we experience weakness on this journey. Let the words of the Lord to Saint Paul encourage us today: "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness." The second collection this weekend is designated for the Diocesan Obligations The second collection next Sunday, the 2h' Sunday of the month, is for donations to Phase III CHAPLET OF THE DIVINE MERCY Sunday, July 5th, is the first Sunday of the month and we will pray the chaplet to the Divine Mercy at 3 p.m. followed by benediction. We realize this is a holiday weekend but to recite the chaplet to the Divine Mercy at 3 p.m. at the hour of mercy is worth a little sacrifice. ST. MARIA GORETTI Maria Goretti, saint and martyr, was born in Corinaldo, Italy on ,T October 16, 1890 to humble sharecroppers. Maria quickly matured in grace and holiness in the eyes of friends. After losing her father to malaria, her charming modesty and free acceptance of a hundred thankless home chores distinguished her from the other children. Alessandro Serenelli, with whom the Goretti family shared a home, attacked Maria with intent to sexually abuse her on July 5, 1902, stabbing her 14 times. The doctors were unable to save her life and she died forgiving and praying for her attacker. She died at the age of 12 on July 6, 1902. Maria was beatified by the Roman Catholic Church in 1947 and declared a Saint in St. Peter's Square on June 24, 1950 by Pope Pius XII, becoming the youngest officially recognized Roman Catholic saint. Her feast day is observed on July 6 July 5, 2009 - 5 lipiec 2009 r. Page 3 DONATIONS Saint Joseph Basilica. We acknowledge with gratitude the donation of $100 given on the occasion of the baptism of Brook Lynn Guertin, granddaughter of Albert and Dolores David. May the child grow in the grace of God. GYM AND PARISH CENTER UPDATE There are so many details which have to be addressed before we begin the construction of our project. The land was surveyed and tested by Para Land Surveyors which included utility and topography inventory, drainage and storm water calculations etc. The architects met with the faculty two weeks ago, and with the Steering Committee this past week to review the schematic design of various components, make suggestions and develop a final architectural plan which should be completed by the end of July. A project of this scale requires a large number of dedicated people and therefore we are in the process of organizing several committees. Mr. John McNally, General Chairman, announced the following: Steering Committee-John McNally, Msgr. Czarnecki, Donald Cushing, Sylvia Kitka, Aileen Fanning, Terry Miller, Clem Starosta. This committee plays a very important role by providing general supervision of the project, coordinating the work of the committees, communicating with the fund raising agency, Community Counseling Service, and addressing issues as they arise. They meet several times each month to review the progress. Alumni Research Committee: Jane Gogolinskichairperson,Virginia Woznicki, Patty Parsiow, Sylvia Kitka, Joanne Minarik, Donna Recko, Maryanne Weaver, Carmine Cacciapuoti, Connie Czechowski, Tessa Mailloux, Dottie Kasierski, Terry Wagner, Marion Winters. The committee is conducting research on the alumni of St. Joseph School from 1928 to the present. So far, the data base has been developed in Microsoft Office. The committee is asking parishioners and friends to submit reunion brochures from the high school of their graduation, but especially from Bartlett High. Any information please convey to the chairperson, Mrs. Jane Gogolinski, 508-943-5963. The next meeting of the committee will be on Wednesday, July 8 at 6 p.m. in Saint Joseph School. Construction Committee - Thomas McNally, Jack Podgorny, Al Soto, Betsy Robbins, Tadeusz Dziechciarz, Zbigniew Mroczka. We are grateful to these individuals who with total dedication and enthusiasm sacrifice so much time. They are indeed, not just volunteers but working volunteers. SCHOOL NEWS We are still accepting registration for St. Joseph School from Pre-K-Gr. 8. The most popular grades are Pre-K and Kindergarten. They are near capacity. Although we accept everyone to Pre-K regardless of religious denomination or ethnic origin, priority will be given to children who plan to continue their education at St. Joseph School. Thanks to the generosity of many people we can keep the tuition on a comfortable level for the parents so they could obtain a Catholic education for their children. Also, we were able to equip the school with the latest technological tools which makes learning enjoyable and effective. There is no substitute for good education and formation. For information or tour of the school please call the Principal, Mr. Donald Cushing, from 9 to 1 p.m. tel. 508-943-0378, or the rectory in the afternoon hours. CATHOLIC FREE PRESS The diocesan newspaper, the Catholic Free Press, is something like our parish bulletin. You cannot afford not to Page 4 read it. It provides information about the universal church events, teaching of the Holy Father, and our diocesan news. Its doctrinal orthodoxy, fairness in reporting, and clarity of messages makes it easy to read for people of every age. I strongly recommend that every house should subscribe to this newspaper. For details please call the rectory. MESSAGE FROM FATHER JOSEPH BIELONKO I am leaving Webster and Saint Joseph Basilica to go for an extended vacation to Poland.
